July 16th, 2009 4:23 PMInvoluntary TwitchOh, much too much. I've had years to study the structures of this community, to learn to exploit it for personal benefit. xD
I COULD take this opportunity to plug my own small forum, but it'd probably be more of the same for you. I recently joined TSR too, but I didn't get much (read: any) crit. Serves me right for posting uncrittable tiles, I guess. Where do I begin?
GIMP. Hm. Now there's an idea; not now though. -
July 16th, 2009 3:39 PM-SmashYou know much about this, heh. It's true.
Most people go idolizing on me on most of the small forums I go, and I rarely get any good C+C. With good C+C I mean critique that actually helps you, instead of pointing out the small details. So far, for me, TSR's been the best place to get serious crits all around, but since Ive been recently doing pokemans, I though I might join PC. It's why I came.
(And to learn how to rom hack)
Id recommend you GIMP for animations btw. You can make gifs through layers, and easily edit them. -
July 15th, 2009 5:45 PMInvoluntary TwitchThat sounds like more than enough, actually =P ...I made a thread a while ago, though, and it gathered only a few replies, oddly-- perhaps it was in the presentation. People like being able to either correct obvious errors or revere your work-- if it's somewhere in between those extremes, it's harder to attract attention.
Ah, but that's it, isn't it! The animation's such that, once I've saved a fully animated version, I can't go back and edit it without waaay more work than it's worth. :/ It's a shame; I shoulda bought the premium version so I could save animated Gifs. -
July 15th, 2009 5:30 PM-SmashAh yes, the rule. :p
But I think I have enough though; 2 trees, a Pokecenter, 3 objects and 4 walking sets of overworld chars, along with a scratch sprite..
It's just that, I don't feel like making a thread yet.. Lazyness maybe.
I can give crits to the animation if you want. -
July 15th, 2009 11:53 AMInvoluntary TwitchHaving recently made my most complex animation ever, I'm afraid to post it anywhere for fear that I'll see issues with it and won't be able to fix it. D: Fortunately for me though, I'm not much of a perfectionist-- I can live and let be with some things, although in the case of tiles I do start to get irritated by them after a while, much to the chagrin of Uranium's developer.
Huh, don't bet on it... having already been proven your skill, it's like as not that they'll come requesting you finish the tileset so they can make their whole game in it. Or come asking you for tutorials. Or something; it really does depend on how good you are.
Yeah, better wait it out until you're absolutely certain you can bypass their rabid "4 examples per topic k >:|" rule. Or just wait until you feel good about posting them. If you're looking for crit, there's always the discussion thread... although tbh, there's better places you could go. -
July 14th, 2009 7:45 PM-SmashThe harsh cycle is true, yeah. Especially when making lenghty animation frames.
And yeah, I have definetly been a target by rom hackers before.. (In this forum too, and I haven't even posted any sprites..lol.) But even then, I'll be making my OW tiles in a personal style of mine, which is something a bit too detailed to blend correctly with standard pokemon graphics; so hopefully it may help get a few people off my back. :)
I could post my progress, but I fear it's not good enough on the quantity size yet.
I'll be checking graphics gale now. -
July 13th, 2009 3:50 PMInvoluntary TwitchI never bothered learning to program; it seemed like more trouble that it was worth, when it all got down to it. And yeah, it feels good to see your sprites in action, doesn't it? But then, you start to notice small errors in your work and then you feel like you've gotta fix it, check it and fix it again... it's a harsh cycle.
Expect to get accosted by game developers soon (especially if you do fangame-friendly sprites, like Pokemon-style overworlds and fakes); there are never enough spriters to go around, and most of 'em that aren't busy are hooked on some project or other.
Oh, it's very cool! Took me like three minutes to download and set up, and once I got it working it was pretty easy to figure out! It can't hurt to try it out; it's a lot more user-friendly than Paint. -
July 13th, 2009 1:44 PM-SmashI have a few proyects of my own, but they are just for experimenting issues and such.. Some others are just small hacks, for the sole purpose of putting my sprites in games.
I could say im free of proyects right now, yeah.
Oh and, I've definetly heard of graphics gale before, just that I haven't tried it yet. -
July 13th, 2009 1:08 PMInvoluntary TwitchIf those were the quicker ones, I wonder what your serious art must be like? I commend you for trying tiles-- I'm, eh, allergic to tilesets (and overworlds too) but I often end up doing them since nobody else will. :/
I'm trying out GraphicsGale, which is cool since it can do animations (but can't save 'em D|).
Do you work for a fangame? -
July 12th, 2009 6:24 PM-SmashHm.. Yeah, I made both. Thanks
And yeah, I think you should all wait for me to post my spritework before judjing me as a spriter, as those two were just quickies, heh. :p
Im working on a tileset as of now, and have some stuff done already.
And, spriting program you say? Well.. I personally use paint for everything too, so I might not be of help here. Spriting is to be done manually by the artist instead of the program, so I cant think of any advantages any program could offer. -
July 12th, 2009 1:56 PMInvoluntary TwitchHey man. You're a pretty good spriter. That's cool; I'm sort of a spriter too. I noticed you went out of your way to make a tutorial for Haz, and am I right in assuming you made your avatar too? Way cool.
...Say, I was wondering. What program do you use to sprite? I'm getting a bit tired of using Paint and was wondering if you had any reccommendations for programs geared specifically towards spriting. :3
