What's with the "......."? Brain performed an illegal operation? hehehe.

I felt like being verbose in the previous message, there. Heh.

Other favorite 80's toons? I'll have to come up with my list. It is a tad bigger than I thought, though, 90's toons I'm more familiar with.

And I checked the new Epi Discuss forum, and I'll wax about it whenever I have more time.

Anyway, care to switch this to offsite? I'm not always on, and we do have a good rapport, so. My email is in my profile. Feel free, though, add something to your email Subject line, so I know it's you and my Spam filters don't eat it, instead.

    Apology duly noted.

Your message was very long. I couldn't read it all.

    e: Okay I read it.

Are there any other cartoons from back then that you like? The 80's aren't known for many good cartoons, or so I've heard, so I want to know.

The main forum seems so barren.

e2: Yes, I got her to apologize Charaxes.

There is an ad for the 87 Turtles running now on my browser. Heh.

Anyway, the series began a 5 part mini-series in 87, where everyone was hyper-competent and badass. Then, it got picked up for an actual series in 88, where censorship heavily played into it. I do often wonder what would have happened to the series, had censors weren't so heavy in '88, compared to today. So, yeah, it had to lighten up, which is ironic as the original comics were so dark, it was borderline depressing. It was more sophisticated by 1990, when picked up by CBS, but by 94, became a straightforward dramatic series, again. (Mostly, it was to compete with Batman, I believe.)

It was different, as you said, "not to get stale," which is a problem I have with the 2003 series. Of course, lot more creativity back then, even with their COTDs.

The final two seasons need to be converted, but I expect that, soon.

In the original? Yep. But as the brand took off, the creators had an empire to run, so they let a lot of different hands at the series (lots of interesting humor, too), then back to serious with City at War, which was converted fine to the 2003 series.

Yes, yes, a German biker. I can imagine Stan Hart doing it, especially after I discovered he dubbed a few hentai movies in the 90's. Hah....

I didn't know that about the sub-section. I appreciate the heads up, and from what you say, I can't say I'm pleased, either. I'll check it in depth, next week.

I don't like watching things on YouTube so I'll look out for the DVDs when I get the chance to. Upon my first impression on the '87 turtles, I just thought it was mainly a comedy series wth action just added in so it wouldn't get too stale. Of course, this is my reaction when I watched the DTv so I'm guessing that I didn't get a good representation of them.

So they were all serious in the original? I ask because it seems kind of silly at the thought that they acted like that all of the time.

A German biker to be exact. I can imagine him with the accent and everything.

There's a new sub-section within the animé forum to discuss episodes. There are two or three stuck threads that are supposed to contain discussion for Kanto through the Kanto Battle Frontier. It's supposed keep discussion from episodes outside of the main forum (Even though there isn't much discussion there in the first place). Basically, it stops you (Yes you specifically) from making episode discussions for the early episodes. I personally don't like it but I can't do anything about it sadly.

Actually, in the 03 series, there were quite a few allusions to the 87 series and basically done with love. So, yeah, but I don't disagree with you. (The 4Kids lightness aspect is more obvious with Fast Forward and onward.) The main problem is that it isn't the best initial experience to a new generation of Turtles fans, unfamiliar with the old series. It doesn't help that the 87 series itself became uneven in tone. (First, it was serious, then not, then back to serious, again. More on this later.) On the plus side, the 87 series is almost completely converted to DVD, and lots of Youtube clips, so you can catch up easily.

Yes, the 84 Turtles were done quite well, and the conversation was done right, having read the original. (Own a copy, wish I had the original issue.)

Oak as a biker. I approve in many ways.

New sub-forum? Care to fill me in?

I think it was obvious that the 2K3 Turtles wouldn't be criticized so much in the DTV. The staff that worked on the 2K3 turtles were working on it and it was made with the 4Kids logo so expecting otherwise would be very silly. I'm not as old as you so I didn't get to watch the '84 or the '87 but I thought that the '84 turtles were pretty cool.

Someone else asked you before me? I'm sad now.

They're too old to get evil German hats. Just give it to Oak and let him wear a leather coat and everything. Like a biker. We have to give him one of those German accents too. Remember Charaxes, no half-assin' it.

e: The new sub-forum Charaxes. They hate us animé ex-staff members. :(

Agreed, which was a major problem for me. Granted, the 1987 Turtles had it coming and deserved it to a major degree. (I say this, even though, the show influenced me in many ways.) And the 1984 Turtles got criticized, as they should. What bugged me is how the 2003 Turtles got relatively unscathed, other than the 84's mocking of the colored bandannas. (Unless there were other examples, and I missed it.) Lots to say on this, as they didn't complete the research on other matters. (The '87 Turtles entering the Pizza shop in public like that? Never happened in the '87 series, as they did attempt to disguise themselves, unless circumstances dictated it or were forced whenever fighting Shredder.)

Glad you saw the "made to look stupid' issue, too. Don't worry, I'll share all my lovely commentary whenever I have the computer time. Bah. (You're not the first to ask my thoughts on Turtles Forever. heh.)

Yeah, he needs a German hat with a spike hat, or someone does. Give it to a Rocket Grunt, that would be awesome. Heh.

Ooh I can't wait. I agree that the '87 turtles were made to look kind of stupid though.

I think his hat could've been better.

Oh, yes. I did it early in this year, and it was... interesting. More so, as I grew up with the 1987 series. I'll give you my take, via PM. Every Turtle fan should watch it, and I'll leave it with that. Otherwise, it was a continuity joke on steroids, to say the least. Good in its way, and I actually liked the special, once I stopped taking it so seriously.

Well, Wallace's hat is just awesome. Heh.

Okay sir. Have you watched Turtles Forever yet?

They were the best. I remember that Drew had some fangirls too which was impressive as well. Wallace had the best though since they all wore his hat.

    Oh, don't get cute. Heh.

Well, they are being more creative, but there is something missing, I agree. I'm not sure what it is, though. Best one was those CCS fangirls in the Wallace arc?
