November 20th, 2010 11:39 AMBibliophibianx3 Yup, that'd be the reason. You're basically using your Elm responses to figure out which delay you're on, so if you don't get the responses you're looking for, just reset the clock and try again.

November 20th, 2010 11:31 AMuskellyUhmm, I think I get why I can't get the shiny egg xD I need to keep getting Elm Responces untill I hit the correct delay! (right?) I'm trying to get 500 but I keep landing around it... closest I've gotten it 507...

November 20th, 2010 8:01 AMBibliophibianI'm not sure about getting the egg advancing 1 frame (I know it's supposed to advance them, but I'm not sure by how much) but as far as I know, calling Elm doesn't help advance the frame for getting a shiny egg. (That's actually something I've always wondered about too, since you use Elm to advance the frame to get Egg IVs. ^^" I've just always assumed it was some kind of difference in the way things were generated and figured I wouldn't understand it. x3)
I've always just gone with odd frames, since it was easy to just call and annoy Joey, but if you knew how many frames you advanced with collecting/rejecting eggs, I would think you might be able to do an even frame. -
November 20th, 2010 7:53 AMuskellySomeone told me collecting the egg advances one frame... is that right too? :P Getting correct Elm is also advances 1? Do would it be impossible to get a frame of 4? :P

November 20th, 2010 7:37 AMBibliophibianWhen it asks what your frame is, it means what was the frame for the seed you're using, I think. If RNG Reporter says the frame is 1, you don't need to make any extra calls after you've hit your seed. If your frame is something like 3 or 5, you need to call Youngster Joey to advance your frames a bit.
So, say you've hit your seed, and all your Elm responses were right, and you've got a frame of 5. When you start in the Daycare, you'll be on frame 1 (at least, I've always been on frame 1 in there) so then you need to advance 4 frames to get to frame 5, right? Calling Youngster Joey (the annoying Rattata guy) advances the frame by 2 each time. So, calling him once puts you at frame 3, twice lands you on frame 5, etc.
As long as you hit your seed and everything correctly, the only reason you shouldn't be able to get the shiny is if you weren't on the right frame, or if you were using international/non-international parents and had the box in RNG Reporter checked wrong, I think. Hopefully some of that helps? *Hasn't been to sleep yet* :P -
November 20th, 2010 7:23 AMuskellyI landed on an Elm responce this time :) What does it mean when it says, "what is your frame"?
And I'm pretty sure I did this wrong... After I found Elm, I just gave the parents to the lady, hopeing for a shiny egg :P Saved, then got the egg, but it wasn't shiny xD
Did the guide tell me to reenter the game for a new time? -
November 19th, 2010 5:44 PMBibliophibianMine is 14 seconds and usually either 509/511. I end up hitting at least one of them most of the time, mainly when I'm trying to hit the other one. :P Getting used to the timing is the most frustrating part (though trying and failing to find a seed for something is kind of awful too. x3)

That's the link for PikaTimer if you decide you want to try it out. There are instructions for it about halfway into the post. ^^ -
November 19th, 2010 5:38 PMuskellySo my average delay is 14 seconds, 505. I'm trying to get 20:57:14, so I've been trying again and again to hit it xD It's not working according to Elm... I'll try one more time 2 seconds earlier this time :P

November 19th, 2010 5:31 PMBibliophibianLike...say your target time is something like 18:01:14 (the seconds would be your usual seconds from start -> continue screen). You would start the game at 18:01:00, and then at 18:01:14, you'd press "continue" and actually get into the game. As soon as you were able, you'd open the Pokegear and call Professor Elm.
If you have trouble with the exact timing, you could try using PikaTimer. It's the main reason I didn't go crazy trying to get my timing right when I first started. x3 -
November 19th, 2010 5:19 PMuskelly"Basically, you call Elm the moment you get into the game, before you give the parents to the Daycare Lady." Does this mean to try to enter the game AT that time? I can't seem to get it right o.O

November 16th, 2010 5:20 PMBibliophibianAh, I get what you were saying now. *Just woke up*
I don't see a reason why it wouldn't be possible to do it that way, so if it works for you, that's all that matters. :3 -
November 16th, 2010 5:17 PMuskellyUhm, not really :P So I can't just soft reset when the games time turns but I have to do it when then clock does?
-
November 16th, 2010 5:12 PMBibliophibianIt doesn't need to be the actual time, but the timing you do is done before you start the game, if that makes sense. x3
Edit: Unless you meant the clock that shows up on the DS when you're waiting to start the game. Technically you could use that too, though you wouldn't have anything to time from the point when you started the game to when you hit continue.
If you end up having trouble with any of it, I'd recommend trying out PikaTimer. It helped me a ton when I was learning to do everything. (I was using it the other night to help me keep my timing when trying to RNG with the Pokewalker too. x3) -
November 16th, 2010 5:06 PMuskellyJust a quick question that I thought of that might have been affecting my delay time. What is the point of synching the DS to an external clock when I could just be using the Poke____ in the game itself as a time? Does the Synched time have to be the AUCTUAL time?

Well, the only thing bad about catching them is that you can't RNG for them later. I can only imagine that doing that for roamers would be super annoying though, so it wasn't a big loss to me.
