May 21st, 2011 6:34 PMChairman KagaI don't know what I'd do if I suddenly faced a cap like that. My DSL provider sold my contract to a company with a 5GB/month bandwidth cap last summer, but I was very fortunate to have another ISP in the area. Somehow, I ended up paying less than I was with the previous company for internet that's roughly three times as fast. I can honestly see my future choices of where I live determined partially by what ISPs are available in that area.

May 21st, 2011 6:01 PMZetI think it will make a great extermination product.
I just hope world class broadband here won't cost a fortune like it currently does. Most companies offer 20GB caps for nearly $80 a month :/ By that time, I certainly hope I'll be a in better place. :P -
May 21st, 2011 11:24 AMChairman KagaI'll check it out the next time I'm at the supermarket. I'm guessing I can find it in the cleanser aisle next to rat poison ;)
Weeeeeell I think we can safely say that the future of broadband in the developed world is pretty bleak for the time being, considering that we're relying ever more on bandwidth-heavy streaming and cloud applications while ISPs (and even entire countries) attempt to replace their unlimited bandwidth with heavily-capped consumption. The people making laws can't operate VCRs much less comprehend the inextricable link between the internet and the future of the world, so enjoy your terrible laws and underfunded education system until you have grandchildren, when their cries for less regulation on nanites, telepathic implants, and gene splicing will go unanswered by our generation XD -
May 21st, 2011 1:36 AMZetI'm pretty sure America bought it out a few years ago, well from what I can remember at least. :P
They are pretty much superman considering some stuckup government people don't want Australia having world class broadband when we could be spending the money on something else. The ads promoting it always reference Sweden being top tier internet people and it will make your children smarter in school.
Well it wasn't an entirely devoted, just a few weeks of it since the primary school I went to was a very small school that wasn't even wheelchair accessible, but it is now... and it's a lot bigger. -
May 20th, 2011 10:12 PMChairman KagaYou can't ban it! Every country has a food that defines them. Without Vegimite, you're reduced to, uhh......wallaby meat or something.
Everything is best in Sweden. They are superhumans (or such is the image they like to project XP) As a youngster I misidentified Sweden on a world map in front of a Swedish exchange student. I'll never forget the loathing from her so intense that I felt like dirt, hah.
You had an entire class devoted to long division? -
May 20th, 2011 10:09 PMZetWell you might be having it more since Australia doesn't own Vegemite any more. We probably banned it.
I heard the schooling systems in Countries like Malaysia and Sweden are one of the best, though the latter has better internet services. :P
I would have preferred pre-algebra in year 7 instead of long division. It was never used in years 8-12 for Maths... well I'm not sure about the smarter maths classes in year 11/12. -
May 20th, 2011 9:57 PMChairman KagaI think we had our first taste of Vegimite in the 80s. It was also our last :cheeky:
The American education system is widely regarded as the worst in the developed world, but I can believe it's not perfect elsewhere. Depending on how many disaffected old people with no stake in their community go to the polls on any given election, schools can suddenly receive less taxpayer funding (or maybe that's just here XP).
At my school, we had a class called Pre-Algebra in year 7, Algebra I in year 8, Geometry in year 9, and Algebra II in year 10 (and all these classes came in later years if you chose an easier math in year 7.) So, I suppose, we're just about on par in that we have to spread Algebra over many years and we're not done with it until year 10 either.
Well, as for Queensland, "smart" can be slang for "hurt", so you never know :p -
May 20th, 2011 9:37 PMZetI would have studied world history in year 11 and 12 but I loved drama and TAD. I would have given up biology in a heartbeat to study it but there wasn't any timetables that could have made it possible. :( But it was pretty fun to know that Australia had it's first taste of an American hotdog during WWII :P
I live in Queensland, Australia. The education system here is soo bad that I didn't even learn algebra until year 10. It's the worst State in Australia to receive an education, and I don't even know why our State's motto is "the smart state". -
May 20th, 2011 8:39 PMChairman KagaJapan never gets mentioned outside of WWII, but then again that's more mention than 90% of countries in the world get x_x Although I specialize in American history, world history gets completely shafted in a lot of schools and many kids leave only with a knowledge of the countries that America's gone to war with. I could excitedly talk about, say, Japan's Sengoku era in a classroom for hours on end but, sadly, it's not as relevant to most kids as "we kicked their arse in THE WAR."
What state are you in? I could go on forever about all the horrible choices Ohio is making in public education XP -
May 20th, 2011 7:26 PMZetSchools are in need of History teachers considering all the idiots that said "karma is a *****" with all the stuff that happened to Japan.
If I was learning in a different State I probably would have learned a lot more stuff in all subjects. I'm not going to blame my A.D.D. for making me not pay attention a lot, but I honestly do blame the State's horrible education system. -
May 20th, 2011 7:20 PMChairman KagaI hate essays like deadly poison. Your average history essay isn't that different than the kind you'd have to do for any other class, as even though history is generally about established facts, essays generally require you to synthesize your own interpretation of events from the facts, explain their significance, etc. Standard academic stuff x_x Now me, I was just a history buff and loved learning about it! I guess I loved it so much that I entirely neglected to even consider if a career could be made from it XP
-
May 20th, 2011 7:09 PMZetI just read over your return post, and I can't even fathom a first sentence. But in regards to a History Major, is it any fun learning the history involving long essays and such? I loved learning History when I was in year 10 and almost managed to get an A.

May 20th, 2011 6:57 PMChairman KagaChibi always speaks the truth. I guess that describes me well XD
Thanks for the welcome! -
May 20th, 2011 6:51 PMZetI've heard from Chibi that you're a pretty awesome guy who disappeared and made everyone worried. But enough about the past, welcome back.
