November 11th, 2011 4:55 PMRedstarHey there. Glad to see that you're still active on this board. I clearly haven't been in years, but I still stop by every few months or so just to see what's going on. Thought I'd say hello since you're awesome, and a good writer if I recall.

September 10th, 2009 7:13 PMRedstarALSO, apparently "criticism" is too harsh, and those people who offer criticism *points pencil towards the north of me* should be gentler and more uplifting to the newbies who spam my forum. So the next time you want to say "Hey, you're doing this and this wrong. Here's how to fix it", offer the person LOVE and SUNSHINE and RAINBOWS and PEGGLES (wat) and BUNNIES and KITTENS so their little troll feelings aren't hurt.I never stated the criticism is harsh. You'll note that ditto offered no criticism in a constructive manner whatsoever, only claiming the person was probably trolling.
And no, you can't lump any person that posts an amateur work into the group of trolls. That's simply not how you go about life, judging books by their covers. -
September 8th, 2009 7:32 PMRedstarMini-modding is often used as the pulpit for flaming, though I understand my response wasn't entirely warranted. I just get annoyed at how often the bad or amateur work posted in good faith is immediately trounced upon as either "trolling" or ripped to shreds via criticism when a much gentler tactic could be used.

September 8th, 2009 7:24 PMAstinusThat's mini-modding, not flaming, however. Also, if you didn't like what Ditto-Jelly was saying and thought that it was flaming, then you could have reported it and allowed me to deal with it, instead of making it all a big deal than it actually was.

September 8th, 2009 7:09 PMRedstarThat post by Ditto-Jelly wasn't close to flaming at all. He was harsh, yes, but not anywhere close to the "flaming" mentality. (Unless you count the "believe it is the only valid opinion" part of the Wiki'd definition, but...)Well he stated he felt the thread was only spam and should be locked, which I count as being thinly-veiled flaming since if it really was spam, you'd just report it and wait for a mod's opinion. Telling it to the person's face without knowing their intention has the potential for harm.
I feel the best way to deal with such threads is to be chipper and add constructive criticism, since if the thread is legitimate the OP will have a good environment to learn in, and if they're a troll they wont get the response they wanted and just leave. -
September 7th, 2009 11:52 PMRedstarAh. I knew Gummy said he wouldn't be providing full reviews unless asked, so I must have lumped you into that as well. You don't have to do a full review, just I would appreciate it considering you and the other two judges are veterans and would have something to say. As time allows, though. So no pressure.
-
September 7th, 2009 10:36 PMAstinusIf I ever have the time to write up a review for it. I had mentioned in the contest's thread that I had to skip the reviews for quite a few stories just to get the results in at a reasonable time. Yours was one of the few that doesn't have a full review from me, and since my real life is busy (and about to get busier), then it would be quite some time before I can actually write up any sort of review.
-
September 7th, 2009 10:30 PMRedstarAm I to expect a score and possibly a review for my entry?
-
September 1st, 2009 6:17 PMRedstarAny chance of a response? Apparently another argument of misunderstandings has broken out over/because of me, so your input would be appreciated for the discussion.
