Congrats on eight full years! :D

That's quite the achievement, and I surely hope you stick around for a while longer. I can't really imagine this place without you!

I like the fact that you started a topic on how to stay motivated while writing...the same day I was trying to stay motivated while writing.

Stop giving people evidence that all FF&W staff is the same person!

Alright, I'll post in the requests thread about it, thanks!

You can just post in the Request thread about it! You don't need h-staff voting to allow that to change.

That sounds like a pretty good idea! I'd be perfectly fine with it. Thanks for checking!

Your post to close that "characthers" thread in the Writer's Lounge made me wonder if you should ask for the default display option for the Lounge to be set to "Last Month." Since the Lounge falls under the "don't post in threads over a month old" rule, that might help cut down on the amount of people posting in old threads.

Checking with you first to see about it!

Sure! I'd be willing to give that a try. I can't guarantee I'll do an excellent job, but I can give it my best shot.

Well, at least I'm assuming you already have something on that subject because that's a pretty specific example.

That being said, I've been trying to improve on reviewing for more formal papers, so if you guys ever want a second look for essays, I'd be willing to give it a shot.
Would that include analysis on fandom things that's not for school? For example: the symbolism behind a color choice for a character's clothing?

There has never been anything so right as this GIF.

I think I might have to put that into FF&W's splash! XD

I'm not too sure about the thread "advertising" your services as well. I think that it's just one of the risks reviewers face is that the writer might not even like your feedback. I just keep in mind that I would want anyone to give me ways to improve and hope that it applies to everyone else. If the writer isn't out for feedback, why did they post their story online in the first place?

With a little more detail on the thread, I don't like it. I've been to another site where they do have a thread that people can advertise their services of reviewing, but I applied my story for three of them and never heard back. My main concern is that way too many people would sign up their story and then you'd be swamped with all these requests not all of them would get done. Which, could lead to some bitter members.

To wrap up my thoughts, I think you're just going to have to choose a story that catches your eye and go for it. There's no safe way to tell how someone is going to react. Even if you do make the thread and warn them that you're not completely nice with your reviews, people would say they wouldn't mind, but be offended when they actually do read the review. In other words, some writers might want it until they see it. It's just a risk reviewers have to take.

Since I want to get back into reviewing, I was thinking about the two problems that I run into while attempting to do so. One is that I'm never sure what to read. The other is that I'm never sure who wants me to review their story because I'm not a short completely positive all the time reviewer.

So what I was thinking is that I could create a thread in the Writer's Lounge just asking for people to volunteer their stories for a review from me. I just think that that sounds really narcissistic, like why am I important enough to get a thread to give permission to others to ask me to review their story. The other side of it is that I'd know for sure who wants me to review their story after they're given due warning of how I review, which means that I won't waste my time.

I don't know. I just wanted to run some sort of idea by you that I was thinking of to see what you think of it or maybe have some suggestion as to how to get past the "I don't know what to read" or "People don't seem to want really constructive reviews" problems.
