June 20th, 2019 3:42 AMSheeplol they said in order for me to be exempt I'd have to take a Russian reading/writing/speaking exam, but unfortunately I cannot write properly in Russian anymore and reading is slow for me. -.- But I'm a fluent speaker. alas....
And I'm in SA staying temporary with the bf haha. He lives here atm for a work contract (set to expire July 2021) and I'm enjoying my stay on a holiday visa before going back to NY for a while. Yay freedom! -
June 20th, 2019 2:31 AMpolymorphismOh yeah small fluffy creature I meant to ask you. How'd you end up in South Africa?
-
June 19th, 2019 5:57 AMpolymorphismYeah I lucked out and was placed into a 400 level French class so that meant I had all of my foreign language credits fulfilled (and I took 5 years in JrHS/HS). Did your Russian knowledge not count or like what? Also what's you're degree in?
-
June 19th, 2019 5:09 AMSheepYeah. It was mega stressful for me, I was required to take three semesters of foreign language to graduate. Was especially frustrating since I was already bilingual, so the excuse that it's to make students more diverse and desired for jobs in the future is a load of nonsense. orz
But yeah! French is a beautiful language, I just wasn't interested in learning it at the time (only had to for degree requirements), so that's another reason why it didn't stick too well. I hope you succeed ~ -
June 18th, 2019 11:35 AMpolymorphismI think classroom settings are some of the worst for learning languages tbh, with the amount of work you need to put in you have to want it and you have to work at it all the time.

June 18th, 2019 5:13 AMSheepit's an interesting language! I wish I retained French but alas, even though I took three semesters I didn't have the longterm immersion I needed. :< You'll have many more opportunities for jobs if you're multilingual too, it's a very worthwhile thing to pursue

June 17th, 2019 4:52 PMpolymorphismHonestly I'm kind of jealous. I wish I spoke Russian.
-
June 16th, 2019 8:39 AMSheepahahahaha I bet
but it's like...it's so hard (for me and many others) to learn and actually retain a language without immersion. so the only way I feel I'll actually remember it and not forget in some months is to be in the presence of people who speak it. but that simply hasn't been possible for me beyond Russian and English, lol -
June 13th, 2019 8:47 AMpolymorphismUgh boy do I relate if you take a gander at my Duolingo account there's like 20 languages.
-
June 13th, 2019 12:42 AMSheepYep, both! I can understand Japanese to an extent and some French from college. If only I had time to learn 50 different languages. hehe <:
-
June 12th, 2019 3:15 AMpolymorphismThank much small shep. <3
Also don't you speak English and Russian? Don't sell yourself short! -
June 12th, 2019 1:01 AMSheepIt means I'm on your friends list. -thumbs up- And yeah Japanese is definitely one of the tougher languages, but it would help so much to speak multiple languages and open up so many doors! I wanted to learn more Japanese at some point but was just too busy lol.

June 11th, 2019 3:17 PMpolymorphismSorry to bother you sheepykins and if this needs to go into feedback/suggestions just let me know but what does this (the icon next to name) exactly mean?

-
June 10th, 2019 3:10 PMpolymorphismYeah it's not easy and Japanese is a consider especially difficult for English learners (estimated 2200 hours of study to reach just proficiency. I'm having a lot of fun learning though and hope to make some more strides while I learn.

June 10th, 2019 6:35 AMSheepOf course, language learning isn't easy! But I hope you enjoy it \o/
