December 17th, 2009 6:05 PMJordanAn alternative way of a final summative, you mean?
That's where the medical world and I break apart. I prefer to work on my own time, since I'm quite a lazy person. xD Of course, being a professor will involve a lot of work, but it'll be at a place where I feel comfortable (not a hospital). I've always been in love with universities and their grandiose intellectual essence. xD Again, good luck to you! -
December 17th, 2009 4:45 PMAyano KatagiriIf I had the option of an alternative, I certainly would have taken it I think, considering how unrecognized the standard is outside New Zealand.
I haven't decided on which branch of medicine to specialise in yet, but being a doctor does certainly seem like a stressful non-stop job. I wouldn't mind that I don't think (I like being kept on my toes), hopefully I'll be able to make my mind up when applying for the degree next year. -
December 17th, 2009 2:12 PMJordanI don't know, I think I've been spoiled by After Story's quality of animation and story-telling. xD;
I've heard from a New Zealand transfer student who said that the exams works oddly there. Of course, he was also trying to make the case for the teacher to not give him a final exam early, since he's leaving a week before that happens (Canadians have exams in January).
I was once toying with the medical pathway, but I'm instead going to pursue graduate school upon finishing undergraduate since I feel working in research at a university would be the ideal life for me. Being a doctor is stressful without much thanks, since in a private health insurance world, doctors are expected to do their job since they're paid (I'm speaking about USA of course). Now I have a strong admiration those who have the courage to enter the medical field; I can't handle the intense competitive nature of medical school admissions. -
December 16th, 2009 6:27 PMAyano KatagiriI have to agree, Clannad is probably the only show I've seen so far where I've felt that everything fits together.
Oh, I did mean exams for each subject. The educational system here is just really strange, not to mention the marking methods for the exams... o.o
Thanks, it's going to be a long hard 6 years if I get past pre-med. -
December 13th, 2009 6:21 AMJordanThat's one of the things I like about Clannad: none of the episodes felt out of place, even for a slice-of-life television show.
Oh, really? I thought by exams, you meant like ones for individual classes. The only exams I know of in Canada are final exams for each courses, which counts for 30% of the final score, so integral to earn the credit. You're right, exams there are kinda silly.
Medicine, eh? It'll be a long and tough road ahead for ya if it's anything like the USA and Canada. Good luck to you. -
December 12th, 2009 9:29 PMAyano KatagiriAh, I see what you mean now.
I liked the first episode (the baseball one), but the 9th was quite nice as well. I don't think there was an episode I didn't like in both seasons, except maybe the recap ones since they weren't really all that necessary I felt.
Surprisingly it's not here. As long as you have the minimum amount of credits, you're allowed university entrance in New Zealand. Which I find kind of silly to be honest.
I might, if I can get a job. But chances are I'll probably end up taking a loan to pay as I won't have time for work because I'm studying medicine. -
December 12th, 2009 6:28 AMJordanBackground character, side character, all the same to me. Misae had a mildly more important role in AS than in first season in my opinion, since her arc precluded the meaning and advent of the lights thingamabob. And do you mean you liked the first episode of AS, or the 9th episode? As always, I love both. The only dislikable episode for me was the 18th of the first season, which felt like a giantic slap in the face for Tomoyo, Kyou, Ryou, and Kotomi fans. Playing a super happy song while they come to their realization didn't seem to fit...
It's still a requirement for university, though, right? :3
Are you going to work to pay for university? -
December 12th, 2009 12:30 AMAyano KatagiriMisae? I always thought she was a side character..? I just had a look at episode 9 and I definitely agree with you, it's a lot more conclusive than season 1. I actually quite liked that episode , though I'd imagine it would have seemed weird to those who waited for the new season as the first episode of AS.
Hmm.. sort of. I had already got into university with my desired course from credits throughout the year and the previous year, so exams weren't really that necessary. But I guess it helps for job-hunting which I've been too lazy to do yet. xD -
December 11th, 2009 4:47 PMJordanSo much around Nagisa that I felt that Tomoyo, Kotomi, and Kyou have been placed reduced to background character in a way Misae was in the first season (espcially the former two). And I quarry about the ending solely because it was treated as the ending. Episode 9 of After Story would have been much more suiting as an ending; reduce the Fuuko arc and cut episode 1 of AS is what I say (episode 1 was great like most others, but unneeded).
Well, it's worthwhile for the events afterwards, university and stuff, right? xD; -
December 9th, 2009 9:56 PMAyano KatagiriI was thinking of the Tomoyo/Kyou arcs. I felt there wasn't as distinct a feel for arcs in AS, probably because everything was orientated mainly around Nagisa. Fuuko's arc was random, although nice, it was mostly comedy and dragged a bit I thought. I agree with you about the ending, but I didn't feel as let down by it seeing as I carried straight onto After Story which then linked very well.
I wouldn't call exams and studying worthwhile, 48 hours of my life wasted sitting in an exam room. xD -
December 9th, 2009 4:04 PMJordanAh, the side arcs for After Story you mean, Or the Tomoyo and Kyou arcs? I also wish that they had stretched the story of those two, since as much as Fuuko's arc was great, I don't like Fuuko...at all...mostly. The end of Clannad's first season wasn't spectacular either in my opinion, not nearly as tear-jerking as Kotomi's arc xD;
Eh, don't worry about it. At least you were busying yourself with something worthwhile while I just lazied on this forum instead of studying xD; -
December 8th, 2009 6:47 PMAyano KatagiriI didn't think the side arcs were focused on enough, even though the main story was going down the Nagisa route. They could have been better if it wasn't just an one episode OVA and I had initially thought they'd do a decent length arc for each girl considering how Fuuko and Kotomi took up half a season. o.o
Sorry that this reply is ridiculously late. x_x -
October 11th, 2009 9:33 AMJordanI was obsessed with Tomoyo two years ago, but then I decided to drop CLANNAD (and anime in general) in the middle of Kotomi's arc since some stuff came up :< This summer, I got back to CLANNAD and loved it. I'm more of a Kotomi fan now since Tomoyo's arc didn't impress me...make that the two episode Tomoyo/Ryou/Kyou arc xP

October 9th, 2009 7:15 PMAyano KatagiriHaha, yeah I've noticed that it's gotten a few happy. Tomoyo..? Oh, bishies. XD You can have her next time if you'd like, I'm probably going to change most of my claims around if a new thread is getting made soon.
