February 27th, 2015 5:49 PMArcHow did this slip past me? Anyways.
Spoiler:Well, there was a fifteen second TVCM that was dropping all sorts of death flags about Dezel. So, a lot of people were keeping a close eye on him, including me. So, I would assume that's why we had different reactions on Dezel probably.
I'm more inclined to believe that it was less struggling on the PS3, and more on the lack of proper quality checking, since a lot of the problems the game had were hardly minor and could definitely been resolved with a couple more months of polishing. Especially the seamless battle transition, it's a nice addition to the series, but it was hard for me to believe that they couldn't push towards 60 FPS; since just a month before Zestiria, I played Shining Resonance, a game which also features seamless battle transitions that ran at 60 FPS. I do hope that it does come out on Steam, but it would also be a shoe-in for a PS4 port if that's the case, haha.
I share your sentiments with this cast. They're far more tightly knit than any of the other casts by a slight margin. I didn't really care for Zaveid though :( You're right! If it's something that Zestiria nailed, it definitely was character interactions and the overall flow on how the model moves. Edna chasing Mikleo was an interesting surprised when I first saw that, I remember I missed out on the dialogue for that scene because I was watching those two. The scene that made me really go wow for the animation was when Sorey was trying to introduce the Rose to the Seraphs. Aside from the beautiful Edna teasing, I broke out laughing when I saw the straight punch from Rose and Sorey go flying (and spin no less!). -
February 20th, 2015 8:59 PMCherrimYeah, I had no idea.Spoiler:(Well, I kind of figured something must happen to him because I didn't even remember him from any promo material but I knew Zaveid so I assumed there would be a switch at some point, but I didn't know how they'd do it.) I liked the scene and how they did it but... I didn't really get attached to him before it happened. Admittedly I barely did any sidequests in my playthrough so maybe I missed everything they fleshed out about him because of rushing it, but I didn't feel like it hit me hard enough, you know?
I think a PS4 port is a really logical option, though, especially in a year or so when more fans in Japan have a PS4. Pretty much all of my problems with the game were things that probably could have been fixed if the game itself played better. Framerate, lag issues, that terrible camera, graphics... all the way through, the game just kinda felt like it was struggling on PS3. Within the first few minutes even, I distinctly remember thinking "this is getting a PS4 port". (Also apparently it's shown up in Steam's database in the last few days?? That's... different. It could very well be nothing but it would be interesting to see Tales jump to PC.)
Dezel aside (although I'm looking forward to replaying and giving him extra attention this time), I really liked this cast as well. I didn't go in with many expectations but I wasn't a fan of most character designs at a glance and from what little I'd seen, it seemed like they might fall into terrible archetypes but everyone came together so well. My favourite part of Tales games is the party interactions and I looooved how you could see the party growing closer and closer together as they travelled. It was annoying as hell to follow in cutscenes but one of my favourite things in the game is how you can see the party sort of split up into groups, so while one person is talking to someone important, other people in the background will be bantering or chasing Mikleo around with an umbrella. It made them feel so much more natural instead of just standing awkwardly off to the side when they aren't part of the scene like in any other game I can think of. (GOOD. I've yet to actually talk to anyone who doesn't ship suremiku, probably because... how do you not ship it? They're practically married.) -
February 17th, 2015 9:59 PMArcDezel event came to you as a surprised then? I spoiled myself on that one, but those flashback still invoked some feels!
Oh, god. Some of these fans... This is sort of pushing the boundary of extreme levels of hate.
A PS4 port might get some even more backlash lol. I know some fans of Vesperia got pissed at the PS3 port. But, it would be definitely a good opportunity to fix that god-awful camera and 30 FPS during battle (and difficulty, since hard mode is like wtf, exp penalty? whyyy). Soundtrack is definitely kick-ass! Sakuraba did a great job differentiating from his usual style and Go Shiina, undoubtedly shines. I'm astounded that the OST is composed of 109 songs :O
I love Zestiria's set of characters as well. One of my favourite cast in a long while. Rose is cool, Mikleo is cool, Edna is cool, etc. (I ship Sorey x Mikleo hard lmao) -
February 17th, 2015 5:36 PMCherrimI haaate spoilers so I usually avoid everything about a game starting maybe a month before it comes out. I didn't even know all the party members when I started, haha.
I think the initial backlash is mostly over, though. I hope, at least. I heard reports that people were planning on booing Rose's VA at Tales Fest this year so I reaaally hope everyone's over it by then because that would be awful.
I liked the game! It played/looked really bad but I loved the characters so much. I hope it gets a PS4 port that fixes all the gameplay issues. The OST was sooooo good. -
February 17th, 2015 4:29 PMArcYou have such a strong will, I myself couldn't resist the spoilers. I haven't been following the whole ordeal as of late, so hopefully the drama died down a bit. Though, I do know there are still a handful of fans still miffed about that fact that we're probably getting more DLC episodes.
How did you like Zestiria, anyways? -
February 17th, 2015 3:49 PMCherrimA lot of the drama happened while I was in full social media ~lockdown mode~ to avoid any and all spoilers before my copy of the game happened but I still managed to see a lot of the backlash against Fujishima which is just. god it's so dumb?? I'm still speechless that the fandom was capable of that. He's one of the last people who'd be at fault for anything they were whining about anyway. UGH.
Yesss, Rose is so much fun to play. I don't usually play fast/frontline characters but I had soooo much fun with her! -
February 17th, 2015 3:15 PMArcThat's alright, haha. It did have me dumbfounded when I was reading your post though lol.
Yeah, that whole Alisa debacle was just messy. I can't believe that some of Japanese fans even threw that kind of outrage that she wasn't the main "heroine". I'll give them that Bamco did do a bait-and-switch, but still, ugh. It was incredibly awful to see them harass Fujishima, when all he did was design her :(
(Rose has a better play style and cooler Mystic Artes than Alisha anyways!) -
February 17th, 2015 2:53 PMCherrimSorry for getting to Rose first, but I have to admit I'm glad to see someone else wanted to claim her! That means one less person hating her over the Alisha thing. ;_;'
