Those stories tend to be amazing simply because the few words pack such a hard punch.

Yeah, I once read a bunch of "short stories" that were only four words long and still brilliant, can't remember where I found them though.

The 1,000 word rule (or guideline, whichever) only really applies to chapters. I was just tired of seeing chapters that were only 300 words, and added it so people would beef up their story a little. Short stories are a little more difficult to judge since they can be just about any length. Heck, I even had a member post a couple short stories that weren't even fifty words long, and they were still good!

Okay so I read the rules now anyway
Does the 1000 word rule apply to short stories?

I am theorising my experience with roleplaying will either make the story I have in mind really easy or really hard haha

I'll get started later today when it isn't 3:44
I'll get more familiar with the rules there too since I know nothing of them

    Yes, yes it is, haha.

And I say go for either one. FF&W is so laid back when it comes to posting that as long as you gave a decent amount of effort, it's accepted.

Is it bad that I'm tempted to go in there and just repeat the word "everything" a thousand times?

I might give a short story a go, I have something of an idea for one.
That or poetry, I've always enjoyed writing free verse (but that style is so poorly received most places)
