April 28th, 2014 12:40 PMNolafusAlien Poverty is my first real fic. I had attempted two other chapter fics, but neither one made it past chapter two. So, it's my first real fic. It's also the first fic that I spent a lot of time planning out, so I don't think it's a coincidence. Between my class, finding a job, and keeping FF&W up and running, it kind of drains you. But, I just landed my first job today, so that's a load off of my mind.

April 28th, 2014 2:17 AMElaitenstileHuh. I've never seen Pacific Rim. I guess that's another movie in my list.
You seem like a guy who has a lot of work to do, and a lot of projects going on. Was Alien Poverty your first fic? -
April 27th, 2014 11:41 PMNolafusThat's very true. I just watched "After Earth" today, and my brother and I agreed that it was a terrible movie. The effects were okay, but the characters and storyline were lackluster, and that's putting it nicely. I swear, I could write a better movie. In fact, I plan to one day. But, I have a lot of projects to go through before I focus on that. Anyway, we watched "Pacific Rim" right after, and you can definitely tell how much a good plot and characters make a difference.

April 27th, 2014 10:55 PMElaitenstileMovies, unlike video games, need to have an exciting storyline that isn't too unexpected or too predictable. In video games, the lack of an original story can be compensated by gameplay and the choices we make in the game. Movies are just one show. There's no two ways around it. That's why I feel that movies these days need a lot of plotting, as there is so much competition.

April 27th, 2014 8:53 PMNolafusYeah, it got a little predictable. There wasn't really anything that made me go "whoa".

April 27th, 2014 7:04 PMElaitenstileDark Knight Rises, huh? I remember watching it in a theatre not so long ago. It was a nice movie, but I feel that the storyline was so linear. I mean, it was like "what should have happened, happened."

April 27th, 2014 6:18 PMNolafusNow I remember! It was the entire Dark Knight Rises Batman series. Hmm... those were pretty good, so I don't really have much to complain about. I used to be really into super hero movies when I was younger, so I guess I just got bored of them after a while. Maybe I should get back into them. I've heard good things, so who knows?

April 27th, 2014 3:25 AMElaitenstileThat's sad. You haven't watched many superhero movies lately? Then what was it that you watched?
-
April 26th, 2014 11:06 PMNolafusOh man, I'm having a hard time remembering the title. I don't remember much about it, but I think it was the latest Superman movie. A little dated, yes, so I might not have much room to ground an argument about super-hero movies.
-
April 25th, 2014 7:30 PMElaitenstileI think that may be why so many movies nowadays get bad reviews. It's because they simply copy the original idea since that worked out so well. But it is hard to keep getting new ideas for movies, right? As long as they modify the plot and work out the scenes well.
What was this latest superhero movie you watched? -
April 25th, 2014 1:55 PMNolafusI have some mixed feelings about newer movies. There are some original plots coming out, but once one seems to work, it seems that a lot more movies come out that are just cookie cutters of the original movie. It's how I feel about all the super-hero movies that are coming out. I haven't seen any of the newer ones, so I could be wring with that, but I just got a little bored halfway through the last super-hero movie I watched.

April 25th, 2014 3:05 AMElaitenstileI see. Seems cool. I think the newer movies attracting audience thing will keep happening, as newer movies follow newer trends and style, like having less stale elements and making every moment action, romance or comedy. I feel they depend less on a storyline and focus more on the elements of the movie.

April 24th, 2014 10:21 AMNolafusI had trouble wording the plot, but thankfully Wikipedia never has this problem:
The film tells the story of a fearless princess who sets off on an epic journey alongside a rugged, thrill-seeking mountain man, his loyal pet reindeer, and a hapless snowman to find her estranged sister, whose icy powers have inadvertently trapped the kingdom in eternal winter. -
April 24th, 2014 3:00 AMElaitenstileI've never seen Frozen. What's it about?
-
April 24th, 2014 1:27 AMNolafusWell, animation is generally more pointed towards kids, so older people probably won't find it as interesting. How to Train Your Dragon broke the mold. I find that more recent animated movies such as Frozen also find themselves attracting audiences of all ages, so it really depends on the film.
