June 28th, 2013 5:57 AMXolaceThis BP system can be such a grind. I need to get a Razor Claw by tonight so I can evolve my Gliger. It's only 8 points but the darn entrances take so long. Hehe.
Hope you're having a lovely night Miau. :) -
June 27th, 2013 10:59 PMXolaceCome time to breed I'll be bothering you quite a bit. So be prepared. To be honest I was quite scared of the whole thing before I started speaking with you. Now that you've taught me a bit it seems much less overwhelming. Hehe.
Had you not told me you weren't from the US or rather had I not tried to force a gift on you. Hehe. I never would have known English wasn't your first language. Truth be told you speak it much better than most people in America. Your grammar is amazing.
You're simply wonderful and I'm lucky to have you as a friend. -
June 27th, 2013 10:28 PMMiauYup, that's right. You can't do anything about a wild Pokemon's IVs, but you can influence them through breeding. The baby will always inherit three different IVs from the parents. Furthermore, if you give one of the parents a power item, the IV of the stat that power item influences will get passed down to the parent. E.g. if your Gothita has 30 IV in Sp. Atk., you can give it a Power Lens before breeding, and the baby will automatically have 30 IV in Sp. Atk. as well. The baby also inherits two other random IVs, like I said before. The other three IVs are still random though. Oh and you can also pass down natures through breeding. If you give one of the parents an Everstone, the baby will inherit that parent's nature.
Really? Thank you, it means a lot to me, because I'm not a native English speaker, so I'm always worried that I can't get my point across. -
June 27th, 2013 10:06 PMXolaceMuch more excited now. So it would be ideal to max out two stats in terms of EVs? As for IVs those are more or less random for the most part unless I influence them? Either way you seem to have been right all along. In regards to IVs anyway since this generation seems to be fairly lenient when it comes to EV mistakes. Though, I get the feeling IVs are the lesser of the two I want to worry about.
You're an awesome teacher by the way. I should bring you apples or in your case maybe milk? Hehe. -
June 27th, 2013 9:24 PMMiauOnce you strip it down to the basics, it's pretty straightforward.
A Pokemon has a set of base stats, that are the same among the whole species and you can check on bulbapedia or where ever. E.g. Gligar has 85 base Speed. What makes one Gligar different from another are its nature and individual values (IVs). These are determined when you encounter it in the wild or receive the egg, and are random, so you can't really chose them. Well, you can influence them through breeding, if you use the right items, but that's pretty much it.
What a trainer can do is effort value (EV) training. Each Pokemon you defeat gives a certain number of EVs in a certain stat. These are also dependent on species, e.g. if your Gligar defeats a Patrat, it gets 1 EV in Atk, or if it defeats a Purloin miau it gets 1 EV in Speed. And 4 EVs = 1 point in that respective stats. So 40 Patrat = 10 Atk. Note that you can only get a max of 510 EVs in total, and 255 EVs in a stat -- though you only need 252 to max out, since it'll be divided by 4 and rounded down.
Hehe, are you even moar excited now? -
June 27th, 2013 5:28 PMXolaceGracias. Hehe.
All of this has me pretty excited to start breeding come end game. I figured a Pokémon with a certain Nature would also get a higher IV in its boosted Nature stat, but I suppose I still have a lot to learn. :) Thanks for always being so helpful. <3
Sorry for the late response by the way, I fell asleep on you. ;( -
June 27th, 2013 11:21 AMMiauPara tu > http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Stat#Determination_of_stats
Gligar has 85 base Speed. If we use that in the formula, we can see that it needs at least a 30 IV to reach 7 at level 1. Pretty neat.
As you can see from the formula, stats are dependent on the level, so the difference will grow as the Pokemon levels up. You gotta love Pokemon math {XD} -
June 27th, 2013 10:31 AMXolaceHm. How much of a difference does it make in the end? Will it stay a consistent 1 point lead or does this number increase over time?
-
June 27th, 2013 10:23 AMMiauIt could be possible it it has a very low Attack IV and a very high Speed IV. If we're talking about Gligar, then if you apply the formula, it means the 2nd one has at least 30 in Speed.
-
June 27th, 2013 10:15 AMXolaceBoth Natures ended up being Adamant. This is interesting though. I wonder why the Speed is higher than the Attack.
-
June 27th, 2013 10:10 AMMiauThat 7 means that it has better a better IV in Speed than the one that has 6. Or that its nature favors Speed, though you haven't said anything about natures, so I'm assuming it's the same?
-
June 27th, 2013 10:03 AMXolaceI honestly forget you live in a different timezone since I tend to be awake around the same times as you. Hehe.
I managed to get two level ones with the following stats.
HP 12
Att 6
Def 7
Sp Att 4
Sp Def 6
Speed 7
And another with the same except its speed is 6. Are these initial stats any indication as to which will be better? Or does that 7 not mean much? -
June 27th, 2013 9:42 AMMiauYou do realize it's only 8:30 PM where I live, right? {XD}
I'm not really familiar with Gliscor, it seems he has quite the Defense stat, didn't expect that from its appearance. I googled a bit, and it looks like smogon is dead, but serebii seems to have him covered. -
June 27th, 2013 9:17 AMXolaceHehe! Here I thought you fell asleep on me. :P
Thank you as always. <3 Could I ask for your opinion on Gliscor? I'm having a hard time deciding what Nature I want it to be. -
