January 29th, 2014 6:12 PMKanzlerHow was the movie? A lot of people I know've watched it.
-
January 20th, 2014 3:45 AMLaVidaAh right, cool^^. I think, the use of the past tense in German is a little easier than in other languages... compared to English or French, I mean. Most Germans simply use the present perfect (Ich habe gegessen, du hast gegessen etc.) and the Präteritum (past tense) is mainly used in literature.
I've been fine. Just studying a lot... as always xD
Later today, I'm going to the movie theater to watch "The Wolf of Wall Street". Really looking forward to that^^ -
January 19th, 2014 8:00 PMKanzlerI've been alright :P Beginning second semester of German. Started with the past tense, ich war, du warst... /ich hatte, du hattest ...
How've you been? -
January 16th, 2014 4:31 AMLaVidaHey there! (:
Long time no speak! How have you been doing? -
December 27th, 2013 3:49 AMLaVidaThank you! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas as well! :3
Did you get lots of presents?
(By the way, you either say "Ich wünsche dir frohe Weihnachten" or "Ich wünsche dir ein frohes Weihnachtsfest". Just saying :P ) -
December 25th, 2013 9:38 PMKanzlerMerry Christmas! - I mean, auf Deutsch: Ich wünsche dir ein frohe Weihnachten!
-
November 27th, 2013 8:25 AMKanzlerJa, ich denke. Like Passe Compose in French :P
-
November 27th, 2013 8:17 AMLaVidaOh, nice! (: Partizip... Is it something like "Ich bin gegangen." ?
-

November 22nd, 2013 5:51 AMLaVidaOh wow, Biochemie und Politikwissenschaft. I bet that takes a lot of effort! And yes, it is spelled "Universität". :) So I guess you have a thing for science? In school, I liked Biology a lot (in Germany, we don't have one class that is called "science" but we have 3 different classes that are called Chemistry, Physics and Biology. I never was good at Physics though. Does biochemestry also deal with neurobiology? Cause that was one of my favorite topics in Biology.
Ahh right, I had wondered what was funny about Fire Pokémon anyway lol I get what you mean with German speaking people confusing funny and fun. I've seen people make that mistake as well. It's funny when they say that the roller coaster ride was "funny", right? xD
Oh yeah, we haven't talked about how a language's structure influences the way people think in detail but I believe it's one of the topics we will deal with in a bit. Right now, we're talking about things like what a culture exactly is (what makes a culture a culture?) and how it influences a language. To me, it's really interesting. -
Oh my gosh I just realized how sloppy that post was *gulp*
Ich liebe Feuerpokemon denn Feuer ist lustig XD <-- Also I have an anecdote about this. It came to my attention that one mistake that native German speakers make when learning English is confusing "fun" with "funny", because "fun" can translate as "lustig" but when you think "lustig" you think "fun-y". So they might go to the amusement park and go on a roller coaster, and when they talk about it they'll say something like "oh, that roller coaster was really funny" XD
Does transcultural communication get at things like how the structure of language influences the way people think? -
November 21st, 2013 5:01 PMLaVidaHaha, alright^^ Looking forward to your reply. (I love how you mix German and English by the way lol :D )
In welcher Zeitzone bist du? What time zone are you in? Da wo ich wohne ist es schon 2 Uhr nachts. There where I live, it's already 2 AM. I really need to sleep soon. I'll talk to you again tomorrow :) Schlaf gut! -

November 21st, 2013 4:54 PMLaVidaPlease don't be mad at me for correcting every tiny little thing XD
It's supposed to be "Ich mache oft den Fehler." "Was studierst du?" "Ich lerne gerade das Verb können". Hmm, können, huh? Let me know if you have questions about that.
The last sentence about the Fire Pokémon is completely correct, though ^^ It only misses a comma after "Feuerpokemon" but that's not that important xD
Ich studiere "Transkulturelle Kommunikation" an der Uni. Das ist soetwas Ähnliches wie Übersetzen und Dolmetschen, aber eigentlich mehr als das. Es geht auch viel über Kulturen etc. (I study "Transcultural Communication" in university. It's something similar to Translation and Interpreting but actually, it's more than that. It also has a lot to do with different cultures etc.)
Gehst du zur Schule oder zum College? Do you go to school or to college? -
November 21st, 2013 4:41 PMKanzlerD'oh! Ich mache oft das Fehler. Was lernst du? Was studiert du? Ich lerne gerade heute der Verbe "ko:nnen".
Ich liebe Feuerpokemon denn Feuer ist lustig XD
Na? :P
