February 26th, 2013 8:46 AMgimmepieYou may be interested in checking the OOC because I have decided to change the mechanic related to capturing and encounters.

February 26th, 2013 8:38 AMgimmepieHmmm I'm giving what you are pointing out.
I am very well aware of the issues with these things but I am also not willing to discourage beginning RPers so I try to keep a balance. Yoshi, for example, is well over their 3 day time limit on the reservation and as such the reservation on Eevee has been removed. The good thing about an RP like this is that if a player becomes inactive it won't be hugely detrimental to the RP since we can just go on with our journey's and assume they quit or died or something.
I'm relatively new to RPing compared to a lot of others but I'm at the mid-way point when I'm starting to learn the "tricks of the trade" and am having some level of success... and for some reason I churn out far too many ideas. Comparing this and Reapers (my current active RPs excluding Ultima which is "active" but is really dead") you can see that I have got a clue now, that being said I appreciate your advice. -
February 26th, 2013 8:25 AMFenne-kunGM discretion, definitely. The method's there for a reason. First of all, if you only allow pokemon to be caught if it's a decent post, that would make the RPers try their hardest in order to succeed instead of just plopping out a post whenever they can. Secondly, this way you can also control their power relatively easy, making sure that none of the Rpers will have overpowered moves and levels. Imagine if it's all free and a trainer teaches his pokemon four powerful TM moves. When you want to stop him and tell him to change, it'll be troublesome for everyone. Prevent > correction. I've seen Freedom-system'd Rps and pro-GM ones...I can say that the latter is safer.
However, I do worry about one thing - the RPers in our Novia thing don't seem to be that active. Like Yoshi for example. If there's one thing that's going to completely destroy an RP despite how good it is would be player inactivity. Trust me, out of 10+ RPs I made, only ~3 made it through as most people had poofed from the site mid-way. -
February 26th, 2013 8:21 AMgimmepieWell on our first point we seem to be in agreement haha and on our second you have raised an interesting point that I didn't consider. Out of curiosity which method would you prefer, the freedom to choose or it being based on GM discretion in the same manner as evolution and the learning of moves?

February 26th, 2013 8:15 AMFenne-kun1. There must be some sort of interaction throughout the entire RP though. I'm not saying that they should all meet up at the beginning, but nobody would want to RP alone.
2. Just wanted to know if you have any specific systems. Normally, a trainer would battle the pokemon in his thread and end by throwing a pokeball. In the OOC thread, the GM would decide whether he gets it or not (it pops back out again or flees).
Freedom is a good thing, but an open-world Roleplay is really hard to execute here. There must be something linear that would guide us along those lines, otherwise it might not bode well. Not saying that you should limit everything though, just trying to say that right now, we're pretty much in a rather vague environment and it's rather confusion. I hope the RP's system and other factors would be crystal clear soon. x3 -
February 26th, 2013 8:10 AMgimmepieFirstly - Communication between characters is at the players discretion although I would rather not have everyone all meeting up immediately (although it is likely we'd have seen each other around since we are all starting in Coriolis Town).
Secondly - It is generally assumed (from what I have seen) that you will primarily roleplay from the trainers P.O.V. and as for a system how you come into contact and capture the pokemon is mostly up to you as long as it is a pokemon I have said you can catch, isn't ridiculously strong and ends up in one of your pokeballs. The main thing about this RP is that it stays more true to the style of the anime and allows for a less restricting experience than similar RPs and whilst it may lack something in the sense of a achievement presented by levels I feel as though it also gives a lot more creative freedom to RPers.
Thirdly - The IC has been submitted. We start when it is accepted by Skymin. -
February 26th, 2013 8:04 AMFenne-kunHowever, the biggest problem in a journey RP is that it lacks motivation for some people if there's no communication. Secondly, how will we catch Pokemon? Have you set up the system for that yet? Are you going to roleplay as the Pokemon? Are we going to roleplay about fighting it ourselves? You need to make these clear in order to give us a more general picture of what you have in mind. x3
When are we starting, exactly? -
February 26th, 2013 8:02 AMgimmepieI don't really want to go with the whole classic "evil teams" idea but that being said some form of antagonism towards or between character could be interesting. Perhaps rather than a set antagonist I could give people the opportunity to create rivals (although that is probably to similar to another Journey RP going right now and honestly with players interacting not strictly necessary).
I may throw something interesting in somewhere, I'll have to wait and see but I am always open to suggestions. -
February 26th, 2013 7:26 AMFenne-kunHmm what about evil teams? Some of us can consider siding with them....
sorry xD I used to be a 'veteran' RPer here at PC, but I quit for a while to cool down and adapt to my new school life. All those RPing's made me increase my expectations XD -
February 26th, 2013 1:16 AMgimmepieYou are expected to interact with the others at some point in the RP XD
Plot twists? I'm not sure but I'm always thinking of things.
As for events I'm already brainstorming in my head for some interesting events I'm considering swarms, tournaments, eruptions... all sorts xD
As for your channel I'll have a look later :) -
February 25th, 2013 11:49 PMFenne-kunYep. My new channel since my old one's gone ._.

Are there gonna be any plot twists/events throughout the RP btw? I'd like chances to communicate with other people, battle or perhaps work together. -
February 25th, 2013 6:59 PMgimmepieCompose? So you do music for games then?
I saw, very good SU. -
February 25th, 2013 3:00 PMFenne-kunAh x3 I just mainly compose. I signed up for your RP btw!
-
February 25th, 2013 8:45 AMgimmepieThanks, likewise.
Whilst I would like to learn coding, mapping and spriting at some point my role in projects I have been involved in is usually plot ideas, character and team ideas, region ideas, concept art (fakemon primarily), management and planning. -
February 25th, 2013 7:51 AMFenne-kunI love your name and your avatar xD Nice to meet you! I see that you also have some interest when it comes to hacking. What aspect/role are you in a hacking team?
