October 29th, 2013 5:28 PMCycloneI think it's pretty much complete! Ideas have been introduced that involve using Compound Eyes to increase held item likelihood, but I pointed out the part that is not taken into account: Pikachu is "rare" in the forest, and "very rare" on Route 3, and only seeing one in the course of 20 battles really gains the roving trainer nothing. So I've rejected that theory.
Meanwhile, I have looked at Static to see the list of all Pokémon that can be used to draw Pikachu in these areas. This is how I located Raichu, Electrike, and Manectric as possible Thief users. Using any of these can allow one to not have to faint that lead user, thus giving the ability to use a Pokémon Center. I might rewrite the guide back to a single Step 2 with a star next to it, and the star (asterisk, SHIFT-8) will reference to below the guide noting the alternative route. I have yet to decide which will be the alternative and which the main, but knowing that the Thief users cannot be found immediately, I'm thinking more along the lines of finding a Light Ball very quickly and might lead the "fainted" scenario.
I don't know if the breakable rocks (Leaf Stones, Thunderstones, etc.) like those on Route 13 appear by the time you reach Camphrier Town; assuming they do, evolving Raichu and getting Thief that way is the main strategy with fainting as an alternative. I could research the areas through Camphrier Town to see if these rocks show up, but with Connecting Cave being the first cave, I highly doubt it.
I may also add something about Ground types. However, I'll have to test if they get paralysis trying this. If so, I won't be adding, but may note this below.
I'll see what other details I can add to make it as complete as possible. Let me know if you have any ideas. :) -
October 29th, 2013 11:24 AMGuyFirst off, nice thread!
I don't see the need to make it a sticky though, but when Joe and I eventually get working on the FAQ, I would love to include it once you've compiled a complete guide for making the Light Ball hunt much easier. -
October 28th, 2013 7:34 PMCycloneHi. :) I just posted a Light Ball guide in the forum. Any chance we can improve its exposure (say via a sticky) for those wanting to find a Light Ball?

May 18th, 2013 12:56 PMCycloneI rambled a bit, but rather than edit, I'll just suggest that speculation should perhaps be limited to one thread except in VERY broad cases (speculating about Sylveon for instance), with factual information (Lumiose City, character names confirmed, here's your professor, etc.) or special threads (like Smash episodes) being entitled to their own threads. :) But I'll let you decide on that, I'll stop rambling now. :)

May 18th, 2013 12:53 PMCyclonePretty much why I'm thinking about getting rid of it, and bringing the attention and activity to all the threads below.I still digress. Obviously it's your call, but I think there are some topics very broad and deserving of threads, and some topics that are so limited that they are better left for a general chit-chat. What makes it interesting is that some of those very threads are themselves rumours (Secret Bases, Trainer Classes, and After Game Stuff are three that come to mind), which by the logic in the quote above means there's no need for a rumours thread either. Some topics have such limited information, as well, that they don't need their own threads. There are, actually, very few threads I could pick out (mainly the obvious ones, like Smash reveals, Newtwo, and Sylveon discussion among others) that are factual, and are mostly rumours or speculation themselves. Basically, EVERYTHING that has not been confirmed by Nintendo is either a speculation or a rumour. Having fact threads where just facts are discussed is something that may not hurt. :)
Speaking of fact threads, for instance, I created the Lumiose City thread because I had a great amount of detail to post in a separate discussion that came straight from the Pokémon site. That is the kind of thread I think is good to have on its own. In the future, another city reveal may be able to have its own thread as well, or if the Professor's name is confirmed a thread about the new professor. Again, it's just my opinion, and all. :) -
May 18th, 2013 12:39 PMGuyWhile true, my main focus is keeping the thread just about rumors and dissecting those. There's a 99% chance that if I name it the Rumors & Spec thread, then many will start speculating about a whole lot of other things too.
"but then that covers the entire forum as a whole as well."
Pretty much why I'm thinking about getting rid of it, and bringing the attention and activity to all the threads below. -
May 18th, 2013 12:31 PMCycloneActually, rumours are a form of speculation. General Chit-Chat would be more for general discussion of things that are already known about the game, but then that covers the entire forum as a whole as well.

May 18th, 2013 12:22 PMGuyI don't want to make the rumors thread a speculation thread too, because then it's basically the General Chat. I'd prefer to keep it solely about rumors (i.e. rumored types, Pokémon, evolutions, etc) rather than mixing in speculation of what we already know.
Probably not going to move anything now, but I'm considering just creating a new General Chat / Spec thread or maybe have none at all. Thinking about it. -
May 18th, 2013 12:16 PMCycloneForgot something below but figure you already have seen it, so new VM. Are you planning to move any of the speculation material to the new thread, and then delete the heading post currently in the thread? That way we don't have broken discussions.
S'alright if you're not, just thinking ahead a bit. :) -
May 18th, 2013 12:14 PMCycloneSuggested thread titles (again, just suggesting):
X/Y General Chit-Chat
X/Y Rumour Mill and Speculation HQ
(I'm open to other wording for speculation; I don't know if there's a set term for it like the "rumour mill".) -
April 13th, 2013 7:35 AMGuy...Or am I? :p
You are. Haha -
April 13th, 2013 7:31 AMCycloneLMAO, I'm definitely on the ball today, am I not? :D
-
April 13th, 2013 7:20 AMGuyThat's already been done too! :)
-
April 13th, 2013 7:15 AMCycloneLMAO...I JUST submitted a report post report and refreshed to see you already locked it. Might I suggest renaming the other thread like the Sylveon thread, however?
-
March 23rd, 2013 1:28 PMGuyI'd close it, but I don't have power over that forum. I don't think it should be a problem though.
I like this post so much more! :)
