I guess. Also, I just learned that SPD isn't recognized in the DSM... so I'm going to give my character autism along with it. I figure this would make it easier because then people realize that the SPD could have come after she was diagnosed with autism. tbh I wasn't really diagnosed until between 9 and 12. I had ADHD prior to that, along with various learning disabilities. I also had to take speech therapy because I struggled with that up until the eighth grade.

But it'd be extraordinary. Life could be experienced from a completely new perspective! And if someone harvests your eyeballs, it's no big worry - you would have had the 'being blind' practice beforehand! It boils down to having a long time of nothing to do ahead of you, though, and knowing where everything is or having people that are willing to deal with it.

You could keep it pretty simple, because characters naturally become more complex and you write them. It's impossible not to infuse them with some life.

Yeah... but I don't think I could do that. D: I'm too fond of complete darkness tbh. Anyway, it's not much either... what I put down for my character. I didn't want to make her too off balance or anything, you know? The more traits/symptoms I have, the harder it is to develop the character for me. D:

That's good. Sometimes it really helps to sort out all the little details before you jump in. I always write preliminary notes before I start a story - setting the scenes, plot, bits and pieces of the world, et cetera.

Do you know what would be awesome? To blindfold yourself for a week and wait for the ultra sensitivity to kick in. That's how long it usually takes. It'd be great to experience that and write about it - maybe get a bestseller out of it.

I have tried, but I'm better at females. I'm not too familiar with anything else. >< Anyway, I think I managed to write down the SPD traits that I want my character to have. I wrote it all by hand to put inside my writing binder. The funny thing is that I can see quite a few things with SPD that I relate to as well. The only strange part is that my sensory issues aren't nearly as bad as most autistic people or those with SPD either... so it's just super weird. D:

Good for them if they can get by. One hears of these mind-boggling conditions and has no idea how the sufferers cope. It'd be a nightmare.

Do you ever try using a main character of a different gender? It can be seriously fun, if not a little daunting at first.

Hm... I doubt that. A lot of times, they tend to take therapy and such. It helps them cope with it better. My character is like this, even though she still has a few struggles and such.

People chewing is what gets me. I imagine that for someone with SPD, they'd be filling up their eardrums with wet cement just to keep it out.

I wonder how they cope, though. For such annoyances to be amplified like that... wouldn't you have to seal yourself away in a bubble and never come out?

Yeah... it is. SPD is also not as well known either, so that makes it even harder. It's much more intense than having sensory issues with autism because everything bothers you. Like, just the sound of someone say... scratching their leg is complete torture to a person with SPD. Even the clothes have to be tagless or without certain types of fabric because it makes their skin crawl. ><

I'm not a fan of horror either, but there's something about the occasional scene of violence that thrills me... I just love blood. Not in excess, though - the Castlevania anime is a tad strong for me so far.

It can be ridiculously difficult to find good info, hmm.

    I hate horror stuff though. D: It gives me horrible night terrors. It's been like this since I was a small child. I'm not even sure why but... yeah. The idea of anything horror-related gives me the creeps. Also, yeah... that's true. I just wish I could find one place that talks a lot about the condition without being some sort of monologue or something. ;o;

Yeah, one of the appealing things about autism spectrum disorders was the sensitivity to sensation - I like the idea of feeling things better. But an intensified version could be very interesting! Give it a whirl - if you make a mistake, it just means you're learning. If you excel, it means you're brilliant.

Make a Disneyland horror story - that'd be legit. Or not, your choice lmao.

I actually wrote up some disability traits for a fictional disorder. XD It's for my Disneyland story. Though, I still feel like doing Sensory Processing Disorder... she'd be hypersensitive to things like sound, touch and sight. It's a pretty complicated condition though, so I'm not really sure.

Sure ya do. The only con about fanfictions is feeling a bit constrained sometimes, but it's a joy to add new material. And personally, I wouldn't mind reading a decent HP fic. In lieu of writing my own and whatnot.

Good thing about my short story is that you can sing in operatically and it still scans, lmao.

That, I wouldn't really know. I'm not familiar with the nonverbal side of autism. :/ Anyway, I'm trying to work on a new Hogwarts story... but I'm not really sure how to go about it. I want to add new classes they can take, or at least maybe some clubs or something. I just want to do things my own way, you know?
