August 12th, 2014 7:08 PMCycloneI'm debating battling. I've taken a break with other games tonite, though. I should take some Pokémon to the Battle Spot and see how I do (wipeout imminent? LOL).

August 10th, 2014 9:51 AMCycloneI'm actually considering Aqua Ring and Play Rough as the learned moves (Superpower counts now as an Egg Move), but I made a mistake. I thought it learned Aqua Jet. Oh no. I have a 6IV male...and Aqua Jet is an Egg Move.
Spoiler:
So just grabbed my 5IV and a random 0IV Floatzel I had with the move. Fortunately, after a lot of biking, my single Egg was a 4IV. Good starting point for a 5IV, but I'm going to have to train ANOTHER Marill just to eventually get rid of two dozen Eggs! Meanwhile, the Marills I was going to keep for trade...well, the males might be disposed of now. I just lost a day easily on this.
The flip side is that I have a great Teddiursa/Audino/Chansey Safari - or, as EV trainers for Marill call it, a "jackpot".
So I am thinking about five moves: Aqua Ring (healing, good troll technique), Aqua Tail, Aqua Jet (go first ability), Superpower (general coverage), and Play Rough (Dragon coverage). The reason Aqua Tail is being considered is because I could use Malamar and Trick Room, Azumarill hops in, and Aqua Tail is a stronger move which would go first in Trick Room if Azumarill's Speed EVs are relatively low. -
August 10th, 2014 9:22 AMEuphoricOne of Azumarill's biggest draws is how powerful its priority is. That circumvents any speed issues it has. Also, its great typing lets it force switches, also helping its low speed. Azumarill also has sufficient bulk to sponge a hit or two, which is helped furthermore by its typing.

August 10th, 2014 8:18 AMCycloneYeah, I asked Zekrom too when I saw him. Agreement. Wonder why Azumarill's base is so low, however. And Speed is also a base 50, which begs the question of how well Huge Power can be put to use when you usually go second, especially minus the Speed IVs.
I also picked up on Play Rough; it makes Ice Punch an appetizer by comparison. I love using that move. -
August 10th, 2014 7:22 AMEuphoricYou don't need Ice Punch/Beam because Play Rough gets STAB and it's also SE against Fairies.
-
August 10th, 2014 7:20 AMEuphoricHuge Power doubles its physical attack, but does absolutely nothing for its Special attack. So there's really no point in utilizing its Special side.

August 9th, 2014 6:02 PMCycloneWondering your thoughts on this.
I looked up Azumarill and everyone advises give it a Physical moveset. However, its base SpA and Att are identical, at 50 each. Why does no one explore the Special move options?
For instance, I currently don't have access to Ice Punch. Until Move Tutors return, I clearly will not have access to Ice Punch on a 5IV-6IV specimen. I could move tutor it in 5th gen.; I just can't move backwards to get it. So if I want to cover Ice, I have to use Ice Beam, which is a stronger move. Coincidentally, if I put the EVs into the SpA instead, it becomes something a Dragon better not stand in front of.
Looking at other options, Surf is a move I already used with two Azumarill with great effect in the playthrough and in the GT11 challenge (I had to make it a Rain Dance user to meet the requirements, effectively making it a three move user; I had to use Leppa Berries during the E4). At this point, I can include Play Rough for Dragons or omit that (since I have Ice Beam) and use something like Aqua Ring, which may or may not be useful; perhaps combined with Leftovers. Superpower maintains itself where it's the only Physical move, so lowering Attack means nothing since my other attacks are not there.
Thoughts? -
August 8th, 2014 4:07 PMCycloneExactly.
And evidently, Beat Up is an Egg Move. Until otherwise determined, I'll keep that on the breeding one. My 6IV competition one will not have that. -
August 8th, 2014 3:26 PMEuphoricOr you could use Dark Pulse or a boosting move or something else :p
-
August 8th, 2014 2:34 PMCycloneOn the other hand, if I always lead with Houndoom and whatever the opponent starts with is weak to Dark (by some silly oversight), it would work...but I have a feeling that any Dark weakness would not be the first out since I'm a Dark leader. Or Fairy, and probably hiding the Dragons until my Fairies are gone (oh, I'm covering that, I am). {XD}
-
August 8th, 2014 2:33 PMCycloneYeah, it seemed like a low per-member number. Slighjtly higher and it's somewhat useful. Note of course that I'm putting Attack or Special Attack IVs on most of my party, but I think Beat Up ignores that. Only useful part is the STAB.
-
August 8th, 2014 2:21 PMEuphoricToo gimmicky, imo. 1) You can basically only use it with a full party, as its BP degrades rapidly as party members faint and 2) Most of your Pokemon will not have that high an Attack stat, you'll need to diversify.
-
August 8th, 2014 1:41 PMCycloneWhat are your thoughts on "Beat Up"? It's a Dark type move. It gets STAB. If facing a Sturdy Pokémon, continued attacks make it faint. If the leading Pokémon has it, that's six attacks (it's worst used later in battle). Base attack / 10 + 5 is the formula; if base attack of all members is 110, for instance, then 110 / 10 + 5 = 11 + 5 = 16 * 6 = 72 as a base damage, which compares it to moves like Night Slash.

August 7th, 2014 3:50 PMCycloneIndeed.
Unrelated, I just received a female Dream Ball Aipom in a cloning request tradeback. This will go well with my Focus Punch Aipom, yet unbred, from SoulSilver. -
August 7th, 2014 3:48 PMEuphoricYeah, it's not going to be an issue half the time because Greninja won't be a water type. xD
