Just thought I should let you know, so you don't feel insulted when the DarkViolet alpha comes out. Jambo51 has told me how to have more than 5 DirectSound tracks at once, so I'm doing a crazy soundtrack update for Pokemon DarkViolet (lots of modified HG/SS tracks). So unfortunately I will no longer be using your Route 1 remix, instead I will be using the HG/SS one (but re-arranged so it plays like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdDPyrKJXtA)

However, I have good news for you:
    1) I have figured out what was causing the music insertion problem earlier, the only problem is that there were spaces in the filename, so there was really no problem at all

    2) If I ask you to compose something in the future, you don't have to worry about how many instruments you use (as long as you have a maximum of 10 tracks), since my ROM no longer has a limit of 5 DirectSound tracks.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to hearing how it sounds in-game.

I managed to get one of them done- I've sent you a PM with the link. The other, I haven't even had time to start it, so I guess you can fire away with that one.

Oh yeah- like what I did for the Route 1 remix, I took the RSE equivalent of the Wild Pokemon theme and used those instruments. I also used some elements of the original RBY track along with my own elements to modernise it a bit. Meant to include this in the PM but I forgot.

Don't worry about doing the battle themes anymore. I've been composing some of my own remixes, and I've had lots of fun doing it, and so I figured it would be best for me to create those iconic themes for my hack. Also, in the past few days I've been studying the Sappy Sound Engine, and knowing the GBA's limits, so I'm designing my music to create the most professional-sounding remixes on the GBA possible. BUT, if you're almost finished and you still want to show me, then go ahead. After all, I'm still using your Route 1 remix (which by the way, is fantastic)

I use FL Studio (aka FruityLoops) for all the music I make, be it mp3 or midi. For midis, the demo version would do. It has midi-device comparability but ultimately the best/most accurate way to do it is with your mouse.

Just curious, but what program do you use to compose midis?

Don't worry, you have plenty of time, since progress on my hack has been really slow.

Regarding those things you asked for, I'll get them to you soon enough. I'm pretty sure I didn't mention I'm in my second year of University now so I've, been pretty busy, but I'll get them done and sent to you as soon as possible.

Alright! So my goal is to use R/S/E-styled music despite hacking a FireRed ROM (as you can see in my sig, I even have R/S/E-styled graphics). So how about a remix of Route 1?

Keep this in mind when making the remix:
*RSE music is supposed to sound like a symphony orchestra
*think, "if Route 1 was in RSE, what would it sound like?" Marchy, of course!

Haha, if you check my usertitle you'll see that I'm very much into music making (though there are no midis there, I guess). Sure, I'd like to do one. I've got a few Tohjo remixes done for my hack already, and in general I can do them pretty quickly- what do you need?

I'm not sure if you're still into music making, but would you be interested in doing a remix for Pokemon DarkViolet?

I know it's MY hack, but I guess I'm also an over-achiever (aiming too high). Actually, I won't be adding all new Pokemon. There will only be 210 Pokemon obtainable (the amount of Pokemon in my new Kanto Dex). However, there will be Gen III and IV Pokemon in my new Kanto Dex, but I can assure that they won't make the game feel "wrong", since they're Pokemon that are related to Kanto Pokemon, such as Magmortar and Tangrowth. Unfortunately this means the post-game will be very limited, and there won't be something like the Battle Frontier. I'm totally fine with this because I want the focus to be on the main story. (and yes, I'm going to have to overwrite existing Pokemon for the Gen IV Pokemon I'm including. Obviously the Pokemon I'm deleting/overwriting won't be in my Kanto Dex :P )

As long as the custom moves are within reason (so let's NOT say 'Mewtwo used BrainBurster' or something dumb along those lines).

I think it wouldn't hurt the authenticity (rather, the authentic feel) of the hack to include custom moves. I gather you're including at least some, if not all of the later-generation Pokemon, and so I think having some new moves would just benefit the hack.

I'll also say that you should be wary of overthinking things like that- remember, you are one person, working on a hack of an existing game, you are not a professional. By all means, aim high, as you've done all along, but just be wary of getting bogged down by things like 'Will this look professional/authentic enough?'. But back to what you asked:
I do not think that adding new/custom moves to the game would make it feel less authentic.
    The end. :P

I'm just wanting to hear ones opinion on this: As you know, I want my hack to be of perfect quality and feel authentic. My question is, would having custom moves (in addition to all Gen 1-3 moves, most Gen IV moves, and some Gen V moves) make the game feel less authentic?

When I began working on my current incarnation of DarkViolet, my intent was to add all Gen IV moves. But there's a lot of then that would require very good ASM skills (which I lack), so I replaced those with custom moves (and some Gen V moves). I'm worried that it will make the game feel less authentic.

Sure, I'd be happy to! I'm still eager to see DarkViolet as a completed hack, so feel free to ask my thoughts on anything.

Hey giradialkia, recently I've finally restarted Pokemon DarkViolet, and I'm having trouble trying to decide certain aspects of it. Seeing as how in the past, you were probably my most supportive fan of the hack, I'm wondering if I can have your opinion on certain stuff.
