November 26th, 2016 10:00 PMBettyNewbiePlus, I don't even own a 3DS and don't care to spend the $$$ on one.

November 26th, 2016 9:41 PMZakariyaYou won't know if you'll like it unless you try it. >;P
Jk, there's nothing wrong with that. I personally love them, although your feelings towards them are justified. -
November 26th, 2016 9:37 PMBettyNewbieHell no, and I probably never will. :P

October 10th, 2016 10:37 AMZakariyaDidn't Pokemon Go lose a lot of its players and is becoming less popular? XP
I don't think Yo-kai Watch is going to be that popular forever, as kids may get bored of that in the near future, as did the other things that acted as a "rival" to Pokemon.
If they regain the kid audience, that will be most likely because Yo-kai Watch went downhill. :\
Nintendo, on the other hand, never saw the series as anything more than an advertising tool for little kids, and suffice to say, they wonNintendo has been very confused for more than a decade, and struggled to figure out what makes money. Pokemon would have earned them vastly more if the anime was actually good, and they also seem to fail to understand how to succeed with their game consoles.
The first warning sign that I can think of is the Nintendo 64 using cartridges while the original Playstation and Sega Saturn used discs. Third party developers didn't really like that, and were more than willing to take their business to Sony.
And then a similar mistake was repeated with the Gamecube (its discs were pretty small and couldn't fit certain games on them like Resident Evil 4). That, and the Gamecube also showed Nintendo going downhill with hardware in other aspects.
If I remember correctly, the Gamecube came out around the time that Microsoft's original Xbox did, and it...was lacking in comparison. In terms of HD resolutions, the original Xbox could go up to 720p, while the Gamecube only went up to 480p. Furthermore, the Xbox had online multiplayer capability, could play DVDs, had an internal hard drive, and used a Pentium III CPU along with a GPU based off of Nvidia's GeForce 3. Unless Nintendo had no idea that the Xbox would have this kind of hardware, I'm certain they had enough time to top this.
To add insult to injury, even the Wii was less powerful than the original Xbox (well, slightly), and the Wii was a seventh generation console. And like the Gamecube, the Wii's max HD resolution was 480p. The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 both were capable of 1080p. -_-
Of course, we both know why the Wii was a huge success, and that must have added to Nintendo's false idea that hardware doesn't matter that much in the console wars.
Now we have the Wii U, which despite being a good console, turned out to be a failure. Nintendo failed to understand that the Wii's success was pure luck, they failed to understand that hardware is important, and didn't realize third party support actually.
So it's no surprise that they'd screw up the Pokemon anime if they can't understand how to win the console wars. -
October 4th, 2016 7:30 PMBettyNewbieDo you think Pokémania could return?Well, GO has arguably brought it back. ;)
However, the main games are probably a lost cause at this point. The main series hasn't had anything close to mainstream appeal since (at least) the DPP era, and it's reflected in the way that the games' sales have done a Titanic impression since then.
Gens 5 and 6 appealed far more to veteran fans than new fans, and for better or worse, a franchise like Pokémon needs fresh blood to stay afloat. Appealing to older fans in Gen 6 got Pokémon completely destroyed by Yo-kai Watch in Japan.
If Gen 7 is giving off "reboot" vibes, this is likely why. GF is trying to win back the kid audience from Yo-kai Watch, although it remains to be seen how successful they'll be.
I honestly think the writers have a personal hatred for Ash, and they're probably trying to ruin him in every aspect. I don't know why they would hate Ash to begin with, seeing as how he was likable at the start. Maybe it's related to Shudo, but I ultimately don't know what's going through their arrogant heads.I think a lot of it goes back to Shudo. He wanted the anime to be a smarter series that could appeal to people of all ages, and he notably hated the direction the show started taking in the Johto arc. Nintendo, on the other hand, never saw the series as anything more than an advertising tool for little kids, and suffice to say, they won.

September 29th, 2016 2:59 PMBettyNewbieWhat exactly killed it? I know what sent the Power Rangers' fad to its ungodly death (i.e. Pokemon and the atrocious "Turbo" season), but I wasn't paying enough attention at the time to remember why nobody was into Pokemon after its own fad died.Much of it goes back to the Johto anime. Even with the target audience, it was a noticeable downgrade from Kanto/Orange. Not only was it overloaded with boring filler, but the quality of storytelling was lower than ever (GS Ball getting dropped, lack of real development for any of the main characters, Ash having a noticeably weaker team) and the tone of the series seemed even more childish than it was before.
Since so much of Pokémania was anime-driven, the anime Jumping the Shark spelled bad news for the franchise's popularity. People started losing interest in the series, which resulted in the Entei movie bombing in theaters and Crystal seeing a massive drop in sales compared to GS. GF hitting the Reset Button on the franchise with RS was the final nail in the coffin.
Good points, and did you see Ash's "redesign"?Ugh... Speaking of reboots.
If they wanted to retool the anime this drastically, I don't know why they're even bothering to continue with Ash as the main character. They should've just let him beat the Kalos League and finally achieve his goal of becoming a Pokémon Master and have his big finale as a character. -
September 29th, 2016 7:35 AMZakariyaI'm not usually patient enough to discuss what's offensive and what isn't. :P

September 17th, 2016 8:38 PMBettyNewbieIf I found the name "nostalgia whore" offensive, it's because I find the word "whore" to be offensive, but that's another topic for another time. :P
Heh, I guess you could call me a Gen 1/2 person. I was one of those people who lost interest around the time the Fad died and RS came out and never completely got back into the later games.
(To me, the big dividing line is between Gens 2 and 3. Most "Gen 1 Fans" also like Gen 2 and GSC. It's with Gen 3 and later that you start to see conflict. RSE was a massive reboot for the franchise, so it makes sense that you'd see generation gaps and divisions with it.)
To me, my issues with Sun/Moon are less about the games not being like the older ones, but more about the games feeling like a (pardon my French) a crappy romhack instead of legit Pokémon games. The concept of "Alola Forms" is an idea that amateur hackers already came up with 10 years ago, aka. recolor a sprite, slap a different type/stats on it, and call it a a "new" Pokémon. The idea of replacing gyms with an alternative quest is also something you see in a ton of hacks, usually with horrible execution. A friend of mine also (very accurately) pointed out that the Ultra Beasts are pretty much canon fakemon.
I realize that the games were starting to get formulaic and needed to change things up, but I'm not sure if this was the best way to do it. -
September 17th, 2016 7:22 PMZakariyaForgive me if I sounded offensive when I used the term nostalgia whore, I was only referring to the people who pick on GF for not making everything the way it was when they were kids, and fans of post-Generation 1 content.
-
September 17th, 2016 2:25 PMBettyNewbieIf that's their intention, then they've failed pretty badly.
I'm one of those older "nostalgia fans," and I find Alola Forms borderline offensive. I'd much rather see references to past games and appearances from past characters than see old Pokémon get tampered with like that. -
September 17th, 2016 11:25 AMZakariyaWell, maybe GF wants to bring old fans back and improve PR?
That seems to be a trend lately, game developers are giving in to nostalgia whores due to irrational fear of losing sales or something else. -
September 11th, 2016 5:20 PMBettyNewbieNot much going on lately.
My interest in Sun/Moon is probably nil. It seems that the more I find out about those games, the less I like them (and the more I wish GF had just done XY sequels instead). I find these Alola Forms to be borderline offensive, TBH. GF shouldn't butcher old Pokémon as an alternative to making new ones.
