July 11th, 2015 10:59 AMBettyNewbieBut Lance can't only use Dragon-types IMO. Gyarados is associated with him, and Gyarados isn't a Dragon-type. If anything, I like how he actually tries to counter his weakness (with Charizard).Yeah, and what do people do? Bash him for it. They claim that he isn't a "real" Dragon Master like Drake or Drayden because his team isn't mono-Dragon (completely forgetting that he had a far smaller pool of Dragons to select from than Drake and Drayden). Of course, these same people will often then turn around and praise Steven for not having a mono-Steel team for the exact same reason.

His team in GSC was clearly meant as a progression of his RBY team, hence the three Dragonites. And each of them had a different elemental move, so they had different strengths. The strongest one had Safeguard, Outrage and Fire Blast. When it comes to levels, I usually apply Gameplay and Story Segregation and others should, too. Lance's GSC team was clearly meant to be a progression from his RBY team (as you said), and the only reason it was lower-leveled was because of GSC having a psyducked-up level curve, NOT because of Lance being an evil, horrible cheater or anything like that. Levels are a strictly gameplay feature and shouldn't be relevant at all to the story.
I've never put much thought into it because I've always felt the Dragonites to be a fair challenge. It's not like you couldn't catch underleveled Pokémon in the games either (Dragonair for example). Enemies aren't always bound by the same rules as you. It's a way to compensate for poor AI, or to balance the game.
It annoys me how so many fans will praise and whitewash outright villains like Giovanni and Lysandre, yet demonize kind, heroic characters like Lance. No, you're not being "cool" or "edgy" by putting the Bad Boy in Leather Pants and painting the Hero as a Death Eater.

I'm pretty sure his Aerodactyl had Ancientpower in GSC and that they put Rock Slide to avoid him being PP-starved.
What I was annoyed with was when in a game that was supposed to be competitive (Stadium) the enemies could have moves outside their movepools. But that was because they added the Crystal-only moves to R2, while Stadium 2 was released before Crystal in the West. -
July 10th, 2015 5:45 PMBettyNewbieBiased or not, it pisses me the hell off when I see images like this floating around.
Yes, because the poor level design and sloppy programming of GF is actually the fault of a fictional character.
Want to blame someone for Lance having three underleveled Dragonites? Blame GF for making GSC's level curve so hideously low to begin with. His ace should've never been only L50 to begin with. His Dragonite wouldn't have been underleveled had the levels been just 5-10 higher.
And, also, blame GF for not putting enough Dragon types or even Dragon-like Pokémon in the game, forcing Lance to pad out his team with dupes. What else could he do, save for pulling a Flint and using completely random Pokémon? (Which he would probably also be bashed for doing.)
As for the Aerodactyl with Rock Slide, that's just sloppy programming on GF's part. They probably either forgot that Rock Slide wasn't a TM anymore or that Aerodactyl couldn't learn Rock Slide in Gen 1. It's NOT Lance having a Gameshark and deliberately hacking it onto his Aerodactyl, because again, he's a fictional character.
I guess some people will just find any excuse to trash on a character, no matter what.

July 2nd, 2015 1:16 PMCerberus87Too early to tell. They just remade my least favorite game in the series. :P

July 2nd, 2015 12:34 PMBettyNewbieBased on what you've said in the past, it seems like Gen 6 has been a disappointment compared to Gen 5. Do you feel like you're losing interest in the franchise?

July 2nd, 2015 2:18 AMCerberus87I don't mind it very much. Didn't play ORAS anyway.
Skeetendo is a thing of beauty. ^^ -
July 1st, 2015 7:49 PMBettyNewbieWell, crits are based off Speed, and Electrode has a ton of that. {XD}
Don't know if I've mentioned this already, but this year looks like it'll be the first year since 1997 to not see a main series release in ANY country:
1996: Red/Green (JP) and Blue (JP)
1997: None
1998: Red/Blue (Int) and Yellow (JP)
1999: Yellow (Int) and Gold/Silver (JP)
2000: Gold/Silver (Int) and Crystal (JP)
2001: Crystal (Int)
2002: Ruby/Sapphire (JP)
2003: Ruby/Sapphire (Int)
2004: FireRed/LeafGreen (JP/Int) and Emerald (JP)
2005: Emerald (Int)
2006: Diamond/Pearl (JP)
2007: Diamond/Peal (Int)
2008: Platinum (JP)
2009: Platinum (Int) and HeartGold/SoulSilver (JP)
2010: HeartGold/SoulSilver (Int) and Black/White (JP)
2011: Black/White (Int)
2012: Black 2/White 2 (JP/Int)
2013: X/Y
2014: OmegaRuby/Alpha Sapphire
How do you feel about that? While I think it's good that GF is taking a break, the lack of a new game has REALLY killed discussion on the boards. :( -
July 1st, 2015 2:58 AMCerberus87There may have been a critical hit in the equation. :P
I wanted him to finish Mewtwo off with Explosion, but he didn't. -
June 30th, 2015 8:39 PMBettyNewbieYeah, I know. Believe it or not, I'm using the Team Magma skin. Not because I'm a fan of them, but because my sexy redheaded Dragon Master is on it! {XD}{<3} If somebody makes a good Lance/Dragonite theme, I'll happily switch to that.
Also, my friend killed Mewtwo without Exploding. He just spammed Thunder, the first one paralyzed it, then Mewtwo couldn't move. Now, THAT is just dumb luck. Thunder is inaccurate as hell, and Electrode doesn't have the greatest Special in the world. -
June 30th, 2015 1:11 AMCerberus87Did you know there's a Lugia/Ho-Oh forum skin? ^^

June 29th, 2015 6:17 PMBettyNewbieRealistically, they probably could. Heck, a friend beat the Stadium Mewtwo with Electrode once. That's actually doable. Electrode's guaranteed to outrun Mewtwo, so hit it with Thunder Wave on the first round, and if you survive the next attack, hit the trigger button. Even if Mewtwo survives, it'll be paralyzed and low on HP.
But for marketing reasons, to promote Mega Evolution, they made it necessary for a Mega to weaken Mewtwo.Which is why a 100% faithful Gen 1 adaptation probably WASN'T the best place to promote Mega Charizard X. An animated trailer would've sufficed.
It's worth noting that the Mega Charizards are both stronger than the birds and Dragonite.Only because they don't have Megas, too. Poor Dragonite is the only pre-Gen 5 Pseudo to not have one. :( -
June 29th, 2015 4:00 PMCerberus87I'll choose a better font.

June 29th, 2015 7:12 AMBettyNewbieYikes, so much yellow! Had to highlight to read anything! {XD}
(BTW, there's a PM that still needs to be answered. ;))
Regarding the birds... I think there's a bit of gameplay/story segregation here. Because, if Red caught the birds, they aren't as hot as we think, right? And he might not have a well-trained Dragonite with him either. The special depicted Red completing his Pokédex by catching Mewtwo, so he HAD to have Dragonite and all the Birds. And, they, together, should be enough for Mewtwo, especially a wild one. (And, ESPECIALLY if we apply some gameplay/story segregation and bend the rules, which the special ALREADY DID by having Giovanni's Rhyhorn KO Red's Jolteon with Thunderbolt, among other things.) -
June 28th, 2015 8:18 PMCerberus87Did you like my new profile? ^^
I personally am not too interested in answering the VM, but hey, the point about the Hoenn characters in B2W2 was a good one.

Besides, Mewtwo is far more powerful than the birds, and he's also "intelligent". -
June 28th, 2015 8:00 AMBettyNewbieRed would suffer against the legendary birds themselves. And Dragonite still doesn't cut it.Red clearly caught all of them since he completed his Pokédex, and Dragonite + all of the Birds together should be enough for Mewtwo.
The Hoenn leaders were in B2W2 despite the clash in artstyles.Yeah, but you forget that B2W2 still used sprites. Their lack of modern artwork didn't matter because all we were going to see of them was a small sprite, anyways. All they needed were DS-quality sprites, and they were good to go.
Gen 6-onwards, on the other hand, is a different story. Sprites are gone and the official arts are now the VS portraits. The Gen 4 and 5 artwork is still good enough quality and a similar enough style to not clash with the Gen 6 art, but not so with Gen 3 and earlier.
Of course, you could argue that most of these "outdated" characters, like Kris, Green, Lorelei, Agatha, Juan, and the Frontier Brains will probably never appear in another game again, so it doesn't matter if they have modern artwork or not, but I can't see the likes of Red and Giovanni being left in the dust like that.
