March 8th, 2016 7:29 PMSomewhere_Yea, its a lot different from the traditional liberal or conservative view. A lot of Christian Voluntaryists or Libertarians have the same sentiments as me. Even a lot of secular Libertarians believe that abortion is murder, but think it should be legal for similar reasons. However, these are mostly the philosophical Libertarians, who take property rights to heart and stuff. The more utilitarian and less philosophical types (the ones who follow the N.A.P, but not as extreme) usually either want it outlawed or allowed. these types of libertarians are more likely to be pro closed-border as opposed to open border (which are the majority of libertarians). Post-libertarians, Neo-reactionaries, and Libertarian-brutalists (these groups are not considered libertarian and really ruin the reputation of the libertarian community, but hold some similar views, and are usually totally secular) are usually pro-choice and pro closed borders. Libertarians are so diverse, its ridiculous. Its partly why we dont grow as quickly or poll too well.
Tbh, I dont totally understand Neo-reactionaries or post-libertarians, but they seem to be pro Donald Trump. Which is sickening that they call themselves libertarians. I think they are more like neo-feudalists as far as I know. And Liberarian-brutalists basically want to deport all leftists, and some even go as far as to drop leftist politicians out of helicopters. they worship Pinochet, who made the Chilean economy boom because of free-market policies, but killed many political opponents, who were mostly leftist- by dropping them out of helicopters. They say the ends justify the means, but of course this is a logical fallacy, and goes against almost every libertarian belief, which is why I do not consider them libertarian. They are also pro-Trump.
These groups are only minorities, thankfully. Most libertarians are nice, but some purists can sound like dickheads (even tho they dont mean to lol). From my observations, females and teens are generally paleoconservative (as well as a lot of tea-party adults) while the well-read in literature and philosophy are usually Voluntaryists. Minarchists are just inconsistent, and usually start to fall under the Voluntaryist category slowly.
I have probably just bored you to death and not make any sense at all haha.
What else should we talk about? Something fun? like.... cats? -
March 8th, 2016 6:40 PMgimmepieDefinitely not eminent domain then.
That's an interesting way of looking at things. Quite unique really. -
March 8th, 2016 12:57 PMSomewhere_The two are similar. Eminent domain is taking the land, but compensating the value of the land monetarily later, rather than buying first, then taking. While this is benefiting the rich, at least your country isn't inflating your currency intentionally to buy assets and such.
Im 100% against abortion because, according to my "donut theory" as I call it, it is the initiation of force on a peaceful individual. However, I do not believe the government should be in the middle of abortion because 1) no one else should be paying for it but the mother or father 2) I believe outlawing abortion would only lead to more abortions that are less safe for the mother. As a Voluntaryist, there would be no government to regulate abortion clinics, but I believe innovations can be made to appeal to both sides (because of popular demand)- the babies could be raised outside of the womb, so the killing of the baby would be unnecessary. And I also think education is a better way to solve the issue instead of force. -
March 7th, 2016 8:52 PMgimmepieTo be completely honest I'm not totally sure, although to the best of my knowledge they are outright buying it.
I'm pretty conservative on the issue of abortion in all honesty. I agree that there are some reasons why it could be considered, but I don't like the lack of a say of fathers and I don't think "I'm not ready to be a parent" is a valid excuse. -
March 7th, 2016 7:57 PMSomewhere_Holy crap! Thats terrible!
That is terrible! Its evil when the government privileges the upper class. My strategy would be to create stock companies of the government land based on usage not class! That way the poor can benefit too and there is limited privilege. Are they using eminent domain, or actually buying the land? What is the law where you live in regards to that?
Ill just write the essay and have you read it. I never mentioned one piece of evidence when we discussed it, so ill make sure to fix my earlier mistakes (literally by not saying this, my argument is 10x weaker, so i apologize). And there is one counter argument I can't get past (mostly due to lack of knowledge than a faulty argument). this essay shouldn't be very long because its pretty simple actually.
My ethics class is starting to discuss abortion. oh boy. I have a weird opinion on it, but tbh, we probably agree almost exactly (on legality anyways)- just for different reasons. -
March 7th, 2016 7:30 PMgimmepieExactly!
Oops lol
Yeah my stung started contracting in on itself, my eyes went weird and I got hives. I had a far worse reaction to a similar medication a while back though, so at least it wasn't that bad. I hope I get better too xD
At least there's one thing we can agree on haha. He actually wants to discuss politics whilst the others are just jumping down throats.
That's precisely what privatisation is being used for in my country. The government is selling off assets to produce revenue. The rich upper class love it because they get to make money and it fools the poor because they don't have to pay more tax. The problem though, is that once all the assets are sold they can't be used to create jobs or revenue anymore and the economy suffers in the long term. Which is why I assume the government is now buying mukloads of land haha.
I love that we've managed to get back onto this topic again. Even though neither of us is ever going to concede to the other haha. -
March 7th, 2016 7:19 PMSomewhere_I mean, its cheap labor. supply and demand, ya know?
I was just kidding. I was trying to make fun of myself by calling myself a loser. I meant nerd, whatever. xD
Dang! the hospital?! At least you are improving. I hope you get better!
The one thing I like about Bernie is that he is truthful and is actually legitimate, unlike Hillary. However, I disagree on most things with him.
Privatization isn't meant for government to get money. Am I misunderstanding what you are saying? What is this about economic collapse? Of course this would occur if you abolished government in a day. It would be actually anarchy- as in violence.
The government doesnt need money if it wont exist lol. Im an anarchist haha! The strategy for Voluntaryism is actually peace, activism, localization, and agorism. Localization is slowly restoring power to local communities until everything is privatized. VERY slowly. People need time to adjust, and if suddenly police went away, crime would increase. You get the idea.
Liberty isn't about abolishing government or privatization. it is about creating a voluntary society free of violence and coercion (of course that isn't possible, which is why there would be a demand for security firms). I have no problem if people want to set up governments or communes- as long as they dont force people to join. And the current government is a gang of people using violence and coercion to get tax dollars. Its decided. Im writing my next essay on why taxation is theft, and how democracy does not justify it. xD -
March 7th, 2016 7:05 PMgimmepieSure, isn't everyone?
Eventually yes, although the allergic reaction some of the anti-nausea meds gave me put me in hospital for a night. As for being okay, I'm not okay yet but way better than I was.
I don't have an idea how you drew the conclusion that enjoying a logical debate makes you a loser. It just makes you intelligent.
I'm still holding out a fragile hope for Bernie Sanders haha
Privatisation is only a good solution in the short term you know. It's a quick fix because selling off government assets produces enormous amounts of revenue without tax increases. The problem there is that the revenue is finite whilst assets can create a consistent stream of income.
You can see something of an example of that in my state, a lot of hospitals and the like have been privatised and now the government is scrambling to buy land because they need the assets to create funds. Where you see liberty I just see an inevitable economic collapse xD -
March 7th, 2016 6:52 PMSomewhere_So you enjoy forcing kids to defend your property that gets attacked fairly often. With deadly weapons and giant robots? :p
Are you ok? Were you able to rest?
Tbh, Im not that good at debating lol. Im getting better, but I tend to forget a fact that would literally win an argument haha. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess haha. However, Im going to start writing essays on topics that I find debating about more often so I have something to look to and stuff. Most of what I argue is logic, so it shouldn't be that bad tbh. I'm such a loser...
Also trump doesnt seem to be doing as well lately, so that is some good news. I hope he splits from the Republican party so the Libertarian party can get 5%. Unfortunately, then Hillary would win, but its not like she is all that different from the Republicans, who are getting more economically left anyways. We will still have the perpetual wars on drugs and terror, increased taxation, inflation, and many other issues plaguing the US. When the economy crashes and burns after more years, it will open the stage for the Libertarians, who are starting to gain more traction (we are holding our first debate on Fox and just won a lawsuit to have ballot access). In addition, it will lead to the rise of agorism, which is one of the ways we can establish a voluntary society peacefully! *evil laughs* -
March 7th, 2016 5:30 PMgimmepieSounds like my kind of thing xD
I haven't seen it but I'm going to watch the anime at some point.
I've been really sick which is why my activity has been so sporadic. I'm getting better now though.
That's usually how debates with bad debaters go xD -
March 5th, 2016 6:56 PMSomewhere_I have had a little bit of free time finally. I was able to catch up on Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, and its such a touching story. I get the feels even though it isn't that sad, but its more like the main character's situation is sad, and the things that happen to them (no spoilers). It deals with child slavery, themes of ignorance, innocence, etc.
Its about a bunch of child laborers (some slaves, some just exploited) that are forced to work for a private security company years in the future. They revolt after being used by the company to be left for dead in a battle, and form their own company. Their mission is to protect Kudelia, who is the face of a Martian revolution (Mars is fighting for independence), and they must deliver her to earth safely so she can negotiate. There is a ton of good action and sweet scenes, and its sort of tragic and political, and great all around. The only negative so far is that it is a bit slow, but its not terrible.
I also watched the first 7 minutes of Tokyo Ghoul after reading over half the manga (like 3 chapters a morning on the way to school and while eating breakfast- my only "free time"). Sometimes at school too during lunch break if I'm not doing more work. Anyways, the story is pretty good, but I didnt realize the anime would be so.... beautiful! Its so artsy its ridiculous; the art is the best I have ever seen so far! The colors are so vibrant and stuff. Maybe I'm judging too early haha.
How have you been?
I also got into a debate with a friend and it ended with me being called a "dickhead," or "know-it-all," which I do not really understand. The debate became more philosophical/theoretical, and I only defended my principles and revealed the holes in his. I could understand if this was more of a "utilitarian" debate with facts and such because I could "know all" of the facts, but even then its nothing but an ad-hominem attack haha. Maybe it makes sense because I "know it all" about my principles/philosophy, but that would only make sense. Im probably overanalyzing this lol (everyone I know says that about me). I tend to overthink things, which I think is more good than bad tbh- except on tests. -
February 28th, 2016 7:50 AMSomewhere_thanks lol
-
February 27th, 2016 9:44 PMgimmepieGood luck xD

February 27th, 2016 6:17 AMSomewhere_I just woke up. Essay time!
yea i think I'm going to die -
February 26th, 2016 8:41 PMgimmepieI do not envy you that number of essays.
