August 15th, 2011 7:08 AMKirozaneYou've been on lately?! I thought you were gone for good! *insert more generic excited gushing here*
So how have you been? -
February 2nd, 2011 4:56 PMKirozaneI made a new art thread... and had a bit of a breakthrough in my digi-art painting style that I'm still kinda buzzing over.

January 24th, 2011 11:16 PMKirozaneThat's the thing though... in order to do that with humans, I'd have to learn to LIKE to draw them. As of now, it's something I'm not too fond of doing, as my lack of any perceivable skill frustrates me to the point of tears. My art grades in Jr high were actually sub-par due to the influx of human art and my inability to draw one beyond a 4-year-old level.

January 24th, 2011 11:12 PMKuraDon't let other people dictate what you can and can't do. So what if your friend draws photo-real humans? As long as you enjoy drawing humans too, you shouldn't let her stop you! Sooner or later you'll find that people enjoy seeing art because they enjoy seeing how you interpret the world. Photo-real is one expression, but so is other human stylization or artistic stylization. Her art isn't "better" than yours. That's why people have different favourite artists. People just have different tastes and you should use your OWN tastes to draw and develop what YOU like to draw :3
@[email protected] I hope this makes sense and I'm not rambling.. -
January 24th, 2011 11:07 PMKirozaneAbout critiquing humans, as awesome as that would be, it would probably kill my easy to topple confidence. I mean really... I was actually banned from the art room for a month in 9th grade because I couldn't find it in me to draw a human. I'm not even kidding. I'd go in for class and IMMEDIATELY be sent to the study hall room. And once I COULD return... I was basically isolated... Until my friends started defying that isolation.
But yeah. Humans and I... never mixed... and having a prodigy friend (She could do photo-realistic humans in the 3rd grade for Pete's sake) didn't help me much in the confidence department. (I'm also the only one in my group who CAN'T draw humans. Yet another blow to that morale) -
January 24th, 2011 10:25 PMKuraYou just have to practice! Give it a shot, you know? And do you mean the structure? Some artists draw without it because they can visualize it.. but it helps because it gets you thinking in 3D space.. and it helps to rotate the object in your mind before you put pencil to paper. Do what works for you, you don't need to put construction-lines if you can visualize it in your head, but if you can't think of it, and you're having trouble, that's when you start to break things apart into simple shapes like cylinders and spheres and use that as an aid to help you draw.
Even if you're horrendous, don't give up! Everyone's gotta start somewhere! No one's going to look down upon you for it, especially since you're so keen on improving! Just keep drawing and you'll get it! I'll be happy to critique some humans if you'd like to show me! <333 -
January 24th, 2011 9:32 PMKirozaneYeah. I've been trying to draw humans since I was little, and honestly, even now, I think my 7 year old niece could outdo me. XD My poor little brain just can't grasp the basics of drawing humans. Especially because I can't do that framework thing. Thus my proportions are off by way more than they would be if I could do that. The horrendous, below-kindergarten-level results ALWAYS deter me. But I am in a huge cat-rut that I need to get out of. (I can't even do the framework thingy on animals... It's always contour then detail. None of that "Start with a circle than attach this oblong trapezoid to it" My mind always skips that phase.)

January 24th, 2011 9:26 PMKuraWell to be honest.. drawing humans WILL help your animal. It's kinda like.. if an anime artist draws the same sort of anime face all the time.. it becomes harder for them to draw anime faces that are more masculine or have more expression. Learning how to draw human limbs will help your animals a lot. Learning how to draw locks of human hair will also help your fur rendering!
Haha, and I also feel far from amazing, and I get frustrated too! But I appreciate the compliment and I'm really glad I could help! If you have anything else for me I'd be happy to take a look!
And don't worry we all improve! Heck look at this picture I did like.. what.. 4 years ago? It's horrendous!

Haha.. but yeah.. when you get frustrated, give it a rest and move to something else, then come back at it and look at it with fresh eyes and you'll be sure to get it! :33 I'm glad you're so determined to be better and I enjoy seeing your work! <3 -
January 24th, 2011 9:16 PMKirozaneOh wow...
Honestly that really helps... and makes me remember how amazingly skilled you are (Not to mention how lucky I'd be if I got.... maybe 10% as skilled within the next 100 years XD)
You point out my common flaws, ya know, where I try and try and try, but then get so frustrated that even my persistence wears out and I give up however the heck it looks there. Paws, and male lion ears from a profile view are my prime examples. XD
Thanks for the help.
(And that problem of mine is probably why I will never in my life hope to draw a human. XD) -
January 24th, 2011 8:56 PMKuraHey I updated the thread!

January 23rd, 2011 8:17 PMKuraSure~ I can do a drawover! I figured, while I'm doing this we might as well make use of the paintover thread in the art section. I made it hoping that people could come and ask for critiques.. but if you don't want to show it to the public then no worries, I can give it to you via VM. But if you're open to making use of it, then do you mind posting it over there?
