February 28th, 2015 5:48 AMKuraYeah I don't like Magners either.. haha! And yeah- I used to use it and MSN so much! Now... not really..
No worries whenever you have the time :3 -
February 28th, 2015 1:39 AM£Yep; I'm a big fan of Rekordelig! I'll keep my eyes peeled for Aspall's in the future though! (Can't stand Magners!)
Unfortunately I'm in a similar boat... so with the rise of all these fancy games and MMOs I feel like an old fogey! That nutritional info sounds... damning, really. Kinda glad it's not one of our main takeaway places!
My Skype is bonkenhig; more than happy to talk there! I'll be cramming for a lot of this weekend but I should make appearances there now and then after that! I miss my university days where I practically lived on Skype, heh. -
February 27th, 2015 2:51 PMKuraIf you like em really sweet, then perhaps you'd also like Rekordelig (I think that's spelled correctly..) Stella makes a beer but their cider is still nice IMO. It's a tad dryer than Koppaberg but not as dry as Magners. Perhaps you should also try Aspall's blackberry cider. That one is also pretty sweet!
I'm honestly horrible with knowing computer specs and all that too.. I'm actually not a huge PC gamer.. and just tend to prefer handheld gaming.
You do need to open up something in Canada :P! And yeah.. agree with you on Wetherspoons, but taco bell is much, much worse IMO. I remember seeing on some sort of nutritional info from them "edible but not recommended." Haha.. oh dear..
BTW got a skype handle or something? Or prefer chatting here? I don't mind, really! Just asking! -
February 27th, 2015 2:41 PM£Our government loves to pry on our private conversations but doesn't particularly care so much about our actual welfare in terms of our accommodation being mouldy etc!
I guess I'm glad I haven't ate there yet. It sounds gross. Tho Wetherspoons is mostly oven churned rubbish as well imo. I try to eat PROPERLY lately. I've become something of a mild health freak? Better now than before it's too late.
I guess I need to open a supermarket in Canada and get some real business going there... Stella... ehhh. Not a big fan. I was out tonight and had a ton of ye olde Strawberry and Lime Koppaberg tho. I wonder what other Swedish drinks are like... I'd be tempted to go there just to have a bit of a dabble into their alcohol tbh.
And that's fair enough! I'll definitely keep an eye out for the games you work on if you let me know about them. :) NOT THAT ONE SALE IS GONNA CHANGE THE WORLD but still. Is there anything that would run smoothly on a bad laptop, by any chance...? -
February 27th, 2015 2:30 PMKuraWell that's good!! Glad you're in a clean place. I guess I've just visited too many homes with major mould problems (especially when looking for a flat when moving here.) It is crazy.. in Canada that place would get torn down in an instant.. and here it's the norm.
Yeah... no.. Taco bell is nasty. I don't even know if it's real meat. Everything is processed except for the small bits of lettuce and tomato they sprinkle on the top of the tacos.
And it is wasteful but it's not really a standard or anything so none of the supermarkets practice it. And damn.. I wish a pint was 2 quid here..
If you like cider you should try the Stella Artois Cidre! It's really nice IMO!
Uh.. I don't know how profits work, sorry.. that sort of finance stuff is way over my head but every sale does help the studio. I can't really say about hours; enough that I would be credited on the games, though! -
February 26th, 2015 2:45 PM£...apparently not! My house is thankfully okay on that front right now, and when I move to rent somewhere, they're gonna have to be mould-free for the sake of getting a lot of rent out of me!
Don't get me started on the Cornish language, that's just something on its own front!
...I see. I've heard of like one Taco Bell in Manchester over here and I've never been there. I just imagine it's cheese on a white wrap with a load of sauce/some beef?
And doesn't just getting rid of the stuff wasteful? Waste doesn't sound smart to me, even if you make more profit on the stock you don't waste!
Pints range from ~£2 for the standard Carlsberg etc. in a local pub to maybe £4 for a Koppaberg in the city. (Unfortunately my taste buds are suckers for fruity cider...)
What about the OLD projects? How many hours would you say you've put into each one? Also... how do the profits from things like Steam work? When they do their Steam sales, do you get only a little less profit or do you get a pittance? I'm considering trying that game when I get a decent laptop! -
February 25th, 2015 2:04 PMKuraNot a pressing need to be mould-free? I'm sorry but do you like to breathe fresh air?
And yeah, I know the Welsh are their own species lol!
I don't think our Subways are actually better.. I think people just view it as better since comparatively there's so many other horrible options out there that Subway is actually decent. Compare it with Taco Bell or something.
Canada does not "reduce" stuff going off at the end of the day like Britain does, which IMO is really smart. Canada just leaves it full price and then chucks it. BOO.
No, I do like your shops. Stuff's just different. Eating out here is HELLA expensive, but grocery store shopping is cheap, which I actually prefer. Maybe for you it's different because you're further from London so stuff is cheaper and you don't have to pay a fiver for a pint.
Most recent one I've worked on is Total War: Attila. The other projects are unannounced so I can't say anything about it :P Sorry! NDAs and all that! -
February 25th, 2015 12:55 PM£Tottenham being Totnum seems a bit weirder than Darrrrby! There are some odd curveballs in our wonderful British culture. Tho if you think the names in England are bad, that's like easy mode. Scotland is your standard difficulty, and Wales is where things get hardcore.
I guess we don't really take as good care of our homes because there's not a PRESSING need for good insulation etc. Are they cheaper/better in Canada, then?
You're not keen on any of our shops then!? No upsides? You're really selling Canada comparatively! How is your Subway better, exactly?
...and that sounds like a brilliant job. Can see why you're rooted here! What games have you worked on? Are you allowed to say anything about current projects or are they TOP SECRET CLASSIFIED? -
February 24th, 2015 1:13 PMKuraPeople make fun of the way I say some things. Like Derby.. why the heck is it DARBY. It should be DEHRBY; not DAWRBY. Wtf you crazy brits??
ANYWAY..
Snow: yes. It's so crazy hearing people say "It's SNOWING guys! MIRACLE!" and I'm like.. "man.. that's just sleet. It's not even staying on the ground."
Housing: Why the heck is it so normal for houses to have MOULD and MUKTY WINDOWS? And they're SO expensive and the walls are all paper thin. And WTF washing machine in the kitchen. So weird to me, still. Housing is very expensive in the UK.
Shops: Close at ridiculously early hours. Canada does not, by law, sell alcohol in any place that is not solely a licensed liquor retailer owned by the government. No beer in the supermarkets back in Canada. Also.. buying fresh bakery dough is not a thing here.. pie dough or pizza dough is either ready-made or ready-made and frozen. Food-to-go is bigger in supermarkets here. Subway in Canada is actually a healthy option and not the greasy option it is here. Coffee tastes MUCH better here from chain coffee shops. You guys don't have REAL doughnuts- you have really horrible bready jam-filled.. bread. You guys also don't have blue corn tortillas. Veal escalopes are super cheap in Canada and here they're like 7 quid for 2 teeny ones. You guys also don't have size 2 in womens shoes making it VERY difficult for me to buy new freaking boots! Your return policy is so much better than Canada (28 instead of 7 or 14.) Ok, I'll leave it at that for now.
Yes the job alone; I'm a game developer at Sega.
Goodnight! Get better soon! -
February 24th, 2015 12:57 PM£I'll have to test you at some point. He's a fly guy. I think his way of saying it is very unique... if you said it that way even once over here you'd definitely make people laugh! It's lovely tho.
What field are you an EXPERT In then? Time for a spot of interrogation:
-Weather: I guess it's less snowy tho when it does snow here we probably freak out way more!
-Housing: no idea that could be interesting. Maybe it might be cheapish to live up in the northern areas of Canada due to the inconvenience of living there?
-Shop differences in general would be interesting! I'd say one huge difference when I went to Belgium 3 years back was that there were barely any McDonalds but loads of Pharmacies... what's the major differences over there?
-Was it the job alone that lured you here?
if I happen to be ko'd as of now it's because I'm somewhat poorly! I will keep up the conversation when I'm next on tho! night! (maybe) -
February 24th, 2015 12:50 PMKuraAahh I know Maccrash on here but never really spoke to him on skype or anything! He is a fun guy :3 Maybe I say Glasgow similarly haha- I dunno!
And yep, moved over a little over 3 years ago. Landed a job in my field out of uni (which is fairly hard to do since it's so competitive) and been working here ever since. Yeah I do miss some things from back home but here is actually quite nice. No relatives here, though! Just me!
If I have to speak about my thoughts on either country I could probably write a book.. is there an aspect you want my opinion on specifically? Housing? Grocery stores? General day-to-day stuff? Weather? -
February 24th, 2015 12:39 PM£Heh, I have an American friend who says Glasgow in a really funny way. (Maccrash/Matt) Can't help but smile and hear it in his voice now whenever I think about it. Not quite mardy enough to qualify as a Scotsman, though I do have a Scottish colleague at work who is probably the best banter in the office and I guess I've picked up some of his tricks over the year.
Wait so hang on you moved from Canada to the UK? Christ I'd have done the opposite if I could have! Or do you simply have a lot of Canadian relatives? What are your thoughts on Canada/the UK comparatively? (you must get this a lot...) -
February 24th, 2015 12:29 PMKuraI know it's not much further north either but I was honestly thinking like UP THERE like near Glasgow or something!
Well at least you don't get asked "where are you from?" all the time because I have a Canadian accent. I even got asked today at the gym! CANNOT ESCAPE IT.
And yeah it'll deffo be worth it. -
February 24th, 2015 12:19 PM£MANCHESTER ISN'T MUCH FURTHER NORTH. LIVERPOOL'S WHERE THE HEART OF THE NORTH IS. Manchester's just the body. I am cursed with a posh variation of my local accent. You'd have to be born and raised in the likes of Cornwall/Kent to REALLY sense the scouse. Most people think I'm a Londoner! I've lived up here all my life too.
Thank you! "it'll be worth it in June" is my motto for life rn -
February 24th, 2015 4:51 AMKuraThat's not even that north! I was around Manchester for the Christmas holidays! Do you have a typical Liverpoolian accent? :3 SCOUSE?
Good luck with all of those exams, though!
