July 12th, 2018 4:29 AMEnpatsu ShakuganNoooo. :(
I'm set for every dragon I want. I only did it for you, haha.
And no, I just found it on Google. I had to do it quick afterall!
I could probably find something cool for Dratini or at least a beautiful pic to use for one though.
Don't get used to Garchomp though if you still won't send any pics. :P -
July 12th, 2018 3:21 AMVisionofMiloticYou're the best Justin!!! This made my morning!

How is it? -
June 18th, 2018 9:59 AMEnpatsu ShakuganHey, haha.
I guess the Avatar series has that vibe. It's actually a villain from Book 3 of Legend of Korra! My favorite character. I'm going to be working on some sort of sig later on; if I can manage... -
June 18th, 2018 8:48 AMVisionofMiloticYour new avvie looks really good Justin! I'm getting a book of kells vibe.

June 14th, 2018 4:33 PMEnpatsu ShakuganI replied in full to you.
But keep in mind, there's a backlog of a dozen or so texts too. :/
Anyway, you take care of yourself, whatever happens. -
June 8th, 2018 11:26 AMEnpatsu ShakuganIt's like you can read my mind on when I need you to come back. :p
And as much as I want to reply to you right now, I can't. I'll keep these messages on the back burner for now, as well as your future PM reply, but I need to discuss something important before any of that.
Can you send me a new PM in about 6 hours just asking what's up and wait for me to get back to you? I'll explain there. And it'll be short, so if you could also reply back soon, that'd help.
Just, something has come up... -
June 8th, 2018 10:47 AMVisionofMiloticOne thing I did not take into consideration is that I have not seen Cowboy Bebop since I was 13 and it was on Cartoon Network. I have seen it several times, but only through a kid's eyes. What is the line in the play Glass Menagerie? "In memory things always happen to music." -Tom
I wonder if I watched it again if my perspective might alter just as yours matured. Will it be as flawless as I remember under scrutiny? Or will my idol fall?
In the meantime here's my rebuttal for Cowboy Bebop. I totally get that you have a thirst for epic stories and prefer that format, that's cool. I personally don't have a problem with Bebop not being an epic. Its just an entirely different type of story that needs to be kept more intimate. While it is a one season anime with a beginning and clearly defined end I don't think it ever felt rushed or even shallow, on the contrary it always held my attention. On the flip side very long series often run into really problematic pacing issues that Bebop never had. I'm not saying this is the case with the animes you mentioned, just saying epic stories are more likely to have filler than Cowboy Bebop. Inuyasha would be a perfect of that monster-of-the-week pitfall, though I still liked Inuyasha quite a lot.
The story of Cowboy Bebop is Spike confronting his past and getting revenge. In the process he meets some kooky characters who help facilitate the story. Yes, it is a simple plot, but you could say that also about the story of The Odysessy by Homer about the Greek hero Odysseus. The story is literally about a man just trying to get home--that's all. All he wants to do is sail back to Greece and be with his family again. The conflict and adventure arises out of the things that he encounters on his way home that keep prolonging his journey. He runs into bad winds, cyclops, sirens, magical islands, gods and the list goes on and is lost for 10 years. We take the word odyssey for journey from Odysseus' name. And Spike is on a kinda odyssey too drifting through space. What makes it interesting is all of intriguing and poignant characters we meet along the way. You are constantly running into CODS like VT or Gren or the blind girl that are colorful, sympathetic people that you would not normally find such development for in characters so small. Usually they are people who are deeply scarred, sometimes by Vicious himself, and these encounters often lead Spike close to his enemy. It's mostly Spike's story I think, but its the way his story is told that makes in my humble opinion Bebop more sophisticated than say Yu Yu Hakusho-- though I liked Yu Yu Hakusho too, let's get that clear :)
I feel Cowboy Bebop is very polished and smart, the dialogue is always witty. The score is very diverse and each song practically becomes it's own character from Green Bird to Rain. If I were to make a top 10 list of some of my all-time favorite anime themes I could easily stuff half of the list with tracks from Cowboy Bebop.
Great characters designs and as you already pointed out good production values, but where it is really incredible in my opinion is ambiance, its one of the most stylish animes I've seen. Its takes imagination and detail to create a science fiction world and CB makes sure that each environment has realistic texture as well as a really distinct identity, the mood and look of Io is nothing like Callisto for example.
I hate going so mainstream, I want to go anti-establishment but I do think Bebop was special. An anime I think was more overrated was Grave of the Fireflies. I think it is a nice story. I think it is told well and touching, but I don't see it as the holy grail of animation that we must speak of in only hushed, reverent tones as Anime Academy once presented it. I don't even think its the best film released by Studio Ghibli. Just a pretty good one. I think it was the content itself more and its historical basis that gave it greater appeal as we do not tell the Japanese perspective of WWII as often as we should. Again, its good. But I think its something you only need to see once. I feel about Grave the way you do Bebop.
On Evangelion, no I indeed meant that everyone in it had issues, most especially Rei. Her withdrawn personality sounds like a schizoid as I understand the disorder. Its not that she is a blank character, for me this would imply that she was undeveloped, and to that I wholeheartedly disagree. Rather I say Rei has no sense of self, which is an interesting character to me. I think you could also classify her as a dependent enabler through Gendo's exploitation of her. Rei was personally my favorite, either her or Misato. While Asuka's abusive, histrionic, boarderline and narcissistic tantrums make her the most obviously crazy-acting person on the show, I don't think there is a single major character in the series that you would give a clean bill of mental health to, including and especially the adults.
The insane asylum of different personalities is pretty the glue that makes an otherwise incomplete anime hold. I personally dug Evangelion for the those unique characters and angsty moments, but If you're not feeling that ensemble then yeah Evangelion falls apart.
Religious symbolism... yeah. I'm not going to contest that. As I mentioned I feel you would only watch Evangelion for one thing, the people. I think the use of iconography was potentially interesting, but it was underdeveloped. It just sorta came in and out at random like directors were saying "Hey, it would be cool-looking if we composed the light and shadow to make a cross over there." To me it did not have a significant enough relationship to the plot compared to say the tv series X for instance.
If I had gone to a Star Trek convention I'd be bragging about it not hiding it too. I like what I have seen of Star Trek, I just want to humbly present myself as a novice, still learning all there is to know about the universe. Though I think I have seen all of the original movies 1-6. My favorite being Voyage Home because of its ecology-related themes. Whales are amazing creatures. Now I'm onto the Next Generation series. I haven't gotten through the movies from Next Gen though, except for one I think. It had an awesome performance by Alice Krige as the Borg-- have always been impressed by her work, she reminds me of Tilda Swinton. I believe this one is First Contact? I'm looking forward to Nemesis because I expect Tom Hardy to give a strong character performance as usual. Did you know that William Shatner was on the Twilight Zone back in the 60s? I saw him in Nick of Time and Nightmare from 20,000 feet. They were both pretty good character stretches honestly.
Yes, Deforest Kelly's McKoy is my favorite!! Though I will give a littlecredit where it is due. As flawed as J J Abrams movies are somehow they managed to find a decent Bones I though. I kinda liked Keith Urban also. I felt he was one bright spots of the movie. I thought Zachary Quinto was also good and Chris Pine was alright...that's about the end of the list of good people in the cast though.
On Star Wars-- the prequels are a joke. It was a very bad idea for George Lucas to cater the films entirely to elementary school boys and make it a Saturday Morning cartoon. Sure, kids liked the originals but just as many adults did to. It was for everyone.
The prequels even seeing them as a kid felt tiresome. The writing was dribble, the acting hit a rock bottom low. I mean the razzies had it right, to call these performances wooden insults puppets. There is no sense of editing. Wtf? Why is Ben Burt a sound designer trying to edit the pacing of the film. It is barely coherent, just 2 hours of slapped on garish cgi and his worst ever creature designs. These things were entirely reliant on the short attention span of 6 year-olds who would be running up and down the aisles clacking light sabers together and just gonna clap when their fav chatacter was on the screen. They were barely trying to make a movie. And the new movies by Disney are EVEN WORSE!
Now the originals I never grew out of and still find charming. No, not perfect but it had that chemistry and magic, loveable characters and was a fresh adventure tale with good pacing. Gimme me precious Chewbacca the wookie, my fav character. I like watching Star Wars with other 80s fantasies like the Dark Crystal, Blade Runner or LadyHawk. That era was a fun time for nerds! -
June 8th, 2018 9:11 AMVisionofMiloticWriting to myself it seems! Some of my friends are going to think I must sure be lonely to leave a long conversation on my own profile XD
Milotic is my favorite 3rd generation pokemon, and that is a very high honor because gen 3 has some of the best assortment of Pokemon overall...well at least I think so, my person favorite region. So msny great choices Milotic, Absol, the starters, Mawile, the Lati twins, Metagross, the weather trio, Agron.
I believe that you said Kalos was your favorite region with Johto being a close second. Do you have a favorite Pokemon?
To get the magic ribbon thingy that hovers over your pokemon when it goes into battle you have to clear all of the master ranks with the same Pokemon. So that pokemon has to be the champion in every category. But to get that cool, glowing candelabra called the starlight and Lucario's mega stone it doesn't have to be completed with the same Pokemon, as long as you eventually get through all of the categories, unlock Lisia and defeat her you are good to go. There are other base decorations you can get via contests. Once you do the master rank multiple times you get a big, life-size glass sculpture of a pidgeot to display. Also once your Pokemon has a picture in Lilycove museum it unlocks an artist who will sell you modern art for your base...or maybe he was there before, now my memory is hazy. There's probably other contest goodies I forgot.
I see Milotic as a good symbol for me because I love snakes and water. She may not technically be a dragon but she is still part of the egg group. She reminds me a lot of Dragonair. Milotic represents the land I love-- Hoenn, a place surrounded by sea. She's beautiful on the inside too not just the outside since she can heal troubled hearts and minds. You don't see her that often so I thought she was a more original Pokemon to use as my avatar than some of the more popular dragons and reptiles I care for like Dragonite or Charizard.
She's also a very good Pokemon and useful to my team, you can run her a lot of different ways as an all-out-attacker or a very solid wall, wide move pool, good stats, solid offensive and defensive typing. What's not to like?
C'mon now, you know I wouldn't think lowly of you. Silly! I think the rule is more for the person who is doing the buying, you don't want to seem like you're showing off in front of others. You always get rid of the price tag when you give a gift in my family, especially if you paid a lot. I guess my grandma Ruby passed down a little modesty to us all :)
I ought to write a lady's guide to nerd etiquette.
That's good that you like short and messy hair, I was worried you'd think that wasn't your usual cute, shy, femine cup of tea and you'd be looking for another Jasmine. Glad I could oblige.
Wear me hair down? That is possible but it will be a rattata in this summer heat, I like my hair not hanging all over me and weighing me down so its worn up a lot at the moment. But maybe I could take this pic in the evening when its not so hot.
Also SPOILERS. I was thinking of taking a picture on the beach. Again, that is out though if you want my hair down because its got to be protected from the sun, water and wind. I would have found a floppy hat or a bandana for the job. Think Serena.
My hair's not much fuller? Oh you are so sheltered my child. I have already seen what you can do and I didn't even make me bat an eyelash. Poor innocent boy. There is length and then there is fullness. If you think the fullness between us is anywhere near similar than you are dreaming. You've never seen real fullness before. My hair has a LOT of volume and waves. It can get matted like crazy. My hair can pretty much stand up on top of my head if I command it. I detected a glimmer of hope in your voice and eyes. You didn't really think you could win.... could ya? He makes me laugh, hahaha.
Anyway I've been alive since ancient times and down below is a portrait taken of me that shows ya what my hair could do in its prime.
The context for the picture of Haydee I added awhile back was art style, I was talking about Beserk's ultra masculine, harsh reality style being very different from what I was accustomed to. Haydee was simply here to show a stylistic contrast of what my collection looks more like. But as said, I was willing to step outside of my softer, romantic preferences and shoujo.
Oh I see REAL monsters! Indeed, I have been surfing the net and found some really striking and intimidating creatures from Beserk. There was some evil goat thing that reminded me of the Black Paintings like Witch's Sabath by Francisco Goya. I have seen those pics hanging in person at the Prado museum in Madrid. There is some really textured, imaginative and chilling art in the manga, though I can't say the same for the anime
As much as I can see Miura's talent for bringing to life the macabre I'm not going to be able to do this manga the more I look at it. I kinda got weak in the knees as soon as I saw an image of that devil ram monster thing literally bite a naked woman's head off and eat it then dismember the rest of her.
You see, even though I can intellectually seperate fantasy from reality, I have a very active dreams. I always remember stuff from games, books, TV and movies I have come across when I dream, so I have no reason to think Beserk would be an exception. I dream about Pokemon regularly, I catch shiny Pokemon, I ride them and receive starters, enter competitions. My nightmares chilled for awhile and I was calmly dreaming about visions of suicune, but last night the bad dreams did make a return. If I start reading Beserk then I think sooner or later this fellow may pay me a visit instead of cuddling charmander. https://funnyjunk.com/channel/ponytime/Horny/LTMjLYG/28
I really want to be there, but I'm too tenderhearted for this world. I wonder if Miura had nightmares too? He envisions such incredible but creepy sights that I wonder if he had dreams like I do that gave him inspiration. Or maybe he was in a war and saw some real sorrow or had someone he loved die. We'll probably never know if he is so private, but his images are so real that I suspect there is a great depth of life experience behind them.

June 5th, 2018 2:37 PMEnpatsu ShakuganBy the way, reply to either my profile or our conversation. You posted this on YOUR profile, so I got no notification of it.
Ah, After Earth. It truly deserved its own cinematic universe. Such rock hard sci-fi and lore, and deep character and universe building, where not only did everything make sense, but it was expertly crafted...
Complete opposite in actuality, if you couldn't tell, haha. :-!
The only good thing to come out of AE are the hilarious reviews about it.
Still too much work. :P
I remember beating every rank but I don't recall a prize like that. I knew I wasn't going to keep those games, so any prize stuck solely in that cart were worthless to me.
I do think I did beat Lisia at least once though.
Ha, I just realized, you're obsessed with Milotic, yet it isn't even a dragon. It really should be. It's more dragon than Kingdra.
Haha, whoops. Please don't think lowly of me for that! I was curious though since, wow, that must be pricey. So obviously you're doing okay. :P
Not like I've never done something like that with clothes either, haha.
Ooh, nice! That short messy look is actually a very strong favorite of mine! Can you wear it down for your picture? I kinda think I want to see that look the most!
And you still think you can top my hair even when you're not that much fuller than me?? Tsk, tsk, overly boastful, much??
The fact they obviously got someone who didn't even understand the narrative to continue it is the worst part. There are plenty of adaptations that differ from source material, but you can tell the people behind it still respected and GOT the material to stay faithful.
Unless the show writers are just THAT inept. With all those literary flaws, I don't doubt that either. Either ineptitude or laziness (resort to tired cliches to make it easier to consume and watch and work in more tits and action!)
I'm trying to imagine Miura stopping Berserk and then another inept author trying to continue it. At how horrible that would be. So I can only imagine the pain of essentially falling out of love with it. You're hardly in the minority.
Actually I wasn't even meaning that. I meant it literally. Humans are literally monsters in Berserk too. And it falls in line with losing your humanity too.
Yeah, children are not excempt in Berserk. But all the worst things happen to Guts early on. At least that stuff is quick though.
Yeah, but... Why? Haha. I didn't see any mention of that character or show. Why did you show her? Did I miss something you wrote?
By the way, I forgot to mention it in the PM I sent you: my offers to help you, both in money, writing, and just making you happy have nothing to do with pity. Far from. I felt an undying urge to prop you up from deep respect and just, really, caring about your well being.
I just wanted to clear that up, if you misread it. Just in case. I didn't want you to think I had pity for you. Never, my friend. I don't pity people I like this much. :) -
June 5th, 2018 12:43 PMEnpatsu ShakuganWhen I watched CB every week on Adult Swim, it was my favorite. Production values were great, music, and so varied and fun. I loved it.
I began loving it less when I kept seeing, everywhere, BEST ANIME EVER, OMG NUMBER 1 NO CONTEST, etc.
Huh? Really? I thought. That fun series that was thin on plot? Sure it's great, but not what I'd call best. No hidden themes, ongoing narrative, and purely episodic. I didn't get it.
So just recently I bought it on DVD to watch it in Japanese and English. And... I got it even less.
It was still fine, but not nearly as fun, and just... Episoodic.
I don't know, I guess I like epic ongoing stories. That takes effort. Something like Berserk or Shana, or even YYH at the time. Episodic though, that's easy.
Everyone tries to say Spike and Julia and Viscous is the story, but I disagree. It's the longest one, but it's still only Spike's story.
It was an ensemble show, not the Spike show. And still, 5 episodes out of 26? So 5/6 of it is filler?
And sad to say, while the characters weren't bad or anything, they weren't anything too special for me either. I can't say I really grew to like or care about any of their stories. It was interesting Faye is from the past and had to live a while new life thereafter... But did I care when she found her old home and remembered the rest of her past? Not really.
So like a said. A fine, very fun anime. 7/10... I just don't get why this is considered a masterpiece by so many people. Production value or just the music? If it was the same story without the music, would it be just as popular?
Somehow... I doubt it.
I assume you mean Asuka as the other kid with issues, given that Rei is completely blank?
The worst thing about Eva was the religious symbolism that was out of control at the end, and how Gainax keeps making more series of it.
It's easy to hate it now :-!
Are you kidding? Next Gen is one of the finest shows to ever be made. Sometimes when I have nothing to do, I put it on that and always get invested.
I haven't seen as much Trek as I want to, but I love both Next Gen and the original movies, specifically 2-4.
And... So, McCoy is your favorite character too? :p
Deforest was always a joy to watch. I loved his Spock dynamic too the most. Polar opposites, haha. I think you like Trek WAAAY more than you're letting on if you want to write McCoy fan fiction... Like you've gone to conventions in uniform before level :p
But you know I'm interested to check it out!
And about SW, the overblown hype has made me sour to it as well. Did fun science fantasy films for kid, nothing amazing, people.
The fact this franchise that was for children, that is so simplistic, and lean on content gets obsessed over to such a level, where every minute detail is examined in full is ludicrous.
I loved them as a kid but grew out of them. Originals are still fine, I guess, but come on. I think some people view it as a religion or something, or that they'll destroy their childhood by saying they're not as good. You're allowed to grow past things.
I can't explain it, but it's sad. -
June 5th, 2018 12:08 PMVisionofMiloticI'm guilty actually of loving Cowboy Bebop to the point of agreeing that its the best. Well, okay maybe not the very best ever but to me its still up there as one of the best and it could even today be on my top 10 list. What would be your biggest criticism of Cowboy Bebop?
What I liked about it was how varied the episodes were. There were whole new worlds and planets, but it was beyond sci-fi, there was comedy, there was mystery, it was thriller, there were these quiet, nostalgic flashbacks, there were parts that were just all out surreal and even a romance. It was just a big melting pot of ingredients that made it fun and slick. And to me there was no episode that did not need to be there. The story was just told really well, really solid, the pacing just flowed and to me the end felt like the end, like there was no way you could improve on it. It just came to a smooth, clean resolution and didn't need any more episodes. I just thought it was pretty much perfect. The soundtrack is still immortal. But now that you've suffered my gushing I'd like hear what you feel this anime needed to live up to its reputation? I know you don't dislike it or anything, but what do you feel keeps it just a good anime rather than joining the ranks with the great animes?
On Evangelion, its not pefect by any means. I never saw the movie just the show. I liked the same thing about it that you liked, that it was about damaged boy discarded by his father and inserted into life-threatening situations, and the equally fragile people he meets on the way. Other than that it is pretty thin. However I just liked what it had going enough that it outweighed the flaws for me, even though I can totally get why it is too much for othere to overlook. For me these characters and their psychology was just really a refreshing and original take on the mecha and genre and I enjoyed seeing where they went.
I liked the original Star Wars trilogy but yes the moralizing part was trash and it had the simplistic dualism theme. But I still love the original three, fun, good characters, imaginative world but everything after that the prequels, the Disney films, they were trainwrecks.
I do like what I have seen of the Star Trek too, and am thinking of working up a fanfic about Bones in medical school treating extraterrestrial patients. I have enjoyed the episodes I have seen on Netflix and checked out the old movies too with Leonard Nimmoy R.I.P Have you watched any of the Next Generation Star Trek? Not the J. J Abrams movies, the ones with Patrick Stewart I mean. -
June 5th, 2018 12:01 PMEnpatsu ShakuganYou didn't know that?! Haha. Wow, see what I mean?
I thought it was pretty common knowledge he was the brilliant director behind that masterpiece, haha.
But even THAT is a pain; yeah they were all in one place, but you still had do it 3 times a day for just a couple. I didn't even want to do it more than twice. You got a lot more patience than I ever will!
But yes, the EV reducing berries were great to finally start do proper EV training when you couldn't get the right Pokemon. I used those like crazy in Gen 4.
Nothing wrong with that though. If you liked contests and had the BP to spare, then it wasn't worthless.
If you made Pokemon remember bad moves just because you felt sorry for the moves or something, or had a finite amount, then I'd worry about you, haha.
For contests though, I can dig it. I got a bit obsessed with winning contests in the Hoenn remakes; that was about the most invested I got during those games!
How pricey would that ensemble be? Are you sure you're not just rolling in money? It looks pretty expensive to me! :P
Speaking of your hair, how is it now? I hope it's not super short, because I actually like mid to longer length myself. I'm okay with your hair, haha, but I also want to see you try and best me in the crazy hair contest as well. Longer hair is definitely a preference on women though.
For awhile, before I realized how much I loved red, I was actually too afraid to wear it. I hated the attention it brought, like all eyes were on me. For awhile, even red boxer shorts (ie, underwear) was threatening to me, even though no one could even see it. So I was definitely afraid to wear what I liked for quite awhile.
I get the whole adaptation thing. I've seen the same thing with movies vs books or even, more commonly, anime vs manga.
What baffles me about the GoT series, however, is that they're so desperate now to make their own material when they ran out of book, why not take their time adapting EVERYTHING from the books?
Time constraints? Pfft. Such things shouldn't exist in television. You have any number of episodes you want. If I had to write my own stuff for fear of running out of material, I'd be damn sure to include EVERYTHING from the books.
It's the same treatment some of the worst shonen anime get. Naruto, for example, gets literally every single inkblot of manga adapted and then 2000+ episodes of filler.
How come some shows get everything or too much, whereas others barely get what they need? That has always irked me so much.
I'm still hesitant to get into that series, just because it won't conclude, but I know I'd probably like it for sure. It's just my style and reminds me a whole lot of Berserk.
And yeah, sometimes an actor can bring a whole new level to a character. You'd be surprised, or something they can ruin one of your favorites. It just depends!
And the true irony in Berserk is that the most terrifying creators, demonic or not are humanity themselves. Be it those in power or the ones who have become literal monsters in and of themselves.
And there's a whole long complicated backstory behind Guts' of causality, a man-made god that gives reason to suffering, etc. It's so layered, it's an amazing read.
Along with the top-tier artwork and characters, you won't regret it.
And yeah, the animes are pretty bad. The original 97 one did a decent job capturing it, but the new ones are all CG embarrassments. WITH bad adaptation as well. Steer very clear. The kind of anime literally everyone hates these days.
Sadly, there's a lot of very graphic violence in it. Very. And it's made even worse that you're emotionally invested in the characters it's happening to.
Volume 13 is going to be a hard read, but you'll be so invested, I doubt you can stop either.
I read volumes 5-14 in one day my first time, simply because I couldn't stop.
But it has to be; it's not just violent for spectacle, it's violent for a reason. If you don't understand what Guts has been through, then his motivations and how it shapes him have no weight.
It doesn't bother me, because I can separate reality from fiction, but it is still disturbing, especially the context. That's the worst part. But give it a try. As I said, the violence in it is directly for its story and characters. It's not torture porn like the Saw movies.
Keep in mind though when you check out the first 3 volumes, it's going to come across a lot different. Those volumes are canonically volumes 14, 15, and 16, with volume 3 being the true volume 1. Miura opted to tell the story that way for a reason.
And believe me, the first 3 volumes the very first time and after you've read the next 14 volumes are two wholly different stories.
Like the best stories, you see past events way differently with future context. But even those have some very graphic violence, so see what you think.
I'm also saying the story may seem a little different than what you're expecting at first.
So... what's the picture you posted? Some elf character in a white dress?? :P -
June 5th, 2018 11:32 AMVisionofMiloticI didn't know he made After Earth, that makes sense though. I heard it was awful. M Night is one sneaky fellow. He always seems to be the puppet master behind every disaster and you never know until it is too late!
I do love using berries now! It got a lot easier in gen 6 because in both xy and oras you got a big place with a lot of plots of land all together so you could plant one berry in that clearing then get 5-10 the next day. Then plant all 5-10 up and down that field and you'll have 50-100 the day after. Back in gen 3 or 4 when there were only a couple of places spread all over the map and you had room for just 1 plant or 2 it was more tedious. But I thinks its so easy now that you can use berries generously. I always make sure that I have hundreds of every type of berry on hand. You can never have too many ev-reducing berries :)
I loved doing the contests in oras also so I needed plenty of berries to make pokeblocks. Don't know if I mentioned it before, but if I lived in the Pokemon world then I world be a fancy coordinator in Hoenn.
I was also loony enough to spend my bp on move tutor moves just for contests, moves that I knew I would delete later-- sets that would have been terrible in battle like a feraligatr with water gun, scrath, rest and snore, but would be solid sets for a cuteness contests. It sounds insane, but on the other hand I did have more bp saved up than I could ever spend, I had bought every useful item and still had so much left over that I could afford to play around. I even handed over heart scales to help Pokemon rember bad moves like splash that had a high appeal in the right contest.
Indeed the picture of the Natasha McElhone lookalike is exactly the one that I wanted to show you, the jacket, hat and gloves. I do not own this set yet because it is backordered. I saw this in a mail order catalog they sent me back in January, and I wanted to have it before a Valentine's day dinner. But it wasn't officially going on sale until March. I decided to wait because the temperature was expected to warm up soon and I didn't think I would be able to wear any of that stuff till next winter. There was no urgency to buy it.
We turned out to have a super cold march and even colder April with continued snow, so I actually could have used the jacket, hat and gloves after all. Unfortunately by then the set was all sold out because I had not preordered it. This outfit ended up being quite popular with the ladies. The set doesn't go on sale again till the fall, but I plan to be there when it does. So to make a long story short, yeah, I would own things like this, the whole getup. I will have it in my closet before the year is out.
I don't see myself as afraid to wear what I want. Heavens no, I'm just experimenting. For awhile I liked the Audey Hepburn look, especially after I cut my hair really short. But the way I see it is "Okay, I had my fun. That was something I tried back when I was 18, and I got a lot of compliments on it. I might wear something that is a throwback to it every now and then, but I'm ready to explore and try some new things right now."
Being in a uniformed school made me despise always wearing the same stuff. So I like to mix it up and try different things for different years. I don't do this to try to get attention, I just try to keep an open mind and not be afraid to try something different. Maybe it works? Maybe it doesn't. I think most of us don't know what we like until we've tried it.
Game of Thrones books vs TV. Well, the show in its prime was really good, the cast of talent was stupendous, it was dramatic and gritty with good scripts for the most part and a rousing soundtrack that got you pumped. But the books are still even better. I think the show was great. I have four seasons of it on DVD myself, and have bought plenty of memorabilia based on the TV show designs in particular. I even had a crush on Richard Madden who played Robb Stark the loyal eldest son of the Stark clan who at age 15 plunged Westoros into civil war to rescue his father. I would argue Madden added new dimensions to the character that made me love him even more. My favorite of the guys in the book was always Tyrion the calculating dwarf, and while I indeed loved Peter Dinklage's Tyrion in the show, I really started noticing Madden's Robb more so than I had in the book. I liked him fine in the book, but in the series I was even more attached.
Here are some differences between book and show, for one the writing is more subtle in the book. While nobody is a saint in the show at least and the series tends to write everyone as the antihero they should be, the characters in the book were still almost always somewhat harder. They also just for time and the constraints of the format can't always include every character from the book, so there were a few characters I liked who never made it to the screen But the real distinction between the show and book is a more subtle stylistic one. The show tends to be way more heavy-handed. In the book we might come upon the aftermath of murder scene and try to piece together what happened, but in the show they might show us right from the beginning who is responsible and show it in grizzly detail down to the last baby killed. So the book is written with more sophistication, Martin is a masterful storyteller I think.
While the show had top notch production values with vivid location shots and dynamic crowd action and suspenseful night battles, I feel the book is better at describing a wider range of things from the smell of the trees in the air to how long a character suffers in a jail cell slowly losing his mind. The TV show is great, its just that Martin's prose are so hard to top and the show was at its best when Martin was able to co-write some episodes and when they incorporated as much dialogue and plot from the book as they could. I think the show makes a good companion to the book. I'm glad I saw the show. There are some things that the show did better, but overall I would say the book Is even stronger. I would give both formats an A. But its like the TV show in its hey day is 94% and the book is 100%.
Now on Beserk, the story does sound powerful. I do like dark fantasy. I am attracted to how many different creatures appear within the series from monsters to fairies. I also don't shirk away from sad situations. I wouldn't have any objections to just reading the manga and nixing the anime if that is your recommendation. Its easier for me to read manga these days anyway than watch TV shows, I'm just not as much into anime adaptations of late. The last time I really loved a new show was years ago when I first watched the Korean anime Beast Player Erin.
I was reading that this serie pushes the envelope with its levels of violence. Now I don't have experience with a lot of explicit mangas and animes. I can do some violence, major character death, war, but I am trying to gage just how much is in this series. If there's graphic rape and torture, mutilation then I would probably not be able to complete it.
Wow Miura is a giant and the video you sent me was really informative. I had to skip ahead at the spoilers, but it was still a lot of good content coveree and does make me curious to see it. It was especially interesting hearing about the influences that went into the art style. I know the work of M.C Escher. I kept trying to identify what manga art Beserk reminded me of. As soon as the speaker mentioned Guin Saga I could see it right away. A lot of the background art in the manga looks really textured and detailed.
Saying all that I'm still not converted to the art of Beserk yet, especially the anime ew... Now the manga visual style is a lot more complicated. Its brutally honest, realistic and quite a wakeup slap compared to the beautiful, whimsical and magical images like this photo that I gravitate towards. I am drawn more to a shoujo style, but I am willing to make an exception for an unusual and very good story. Speaking of which, the story is where it seems to really shine. Guts does look like an authentic and sympathetic character. I am even more interested in the relationship between Casca and Griffith.
What I will probably do is head to a bookstore in town slurp down a delicios mocha and read a volume in the shop if they have a reasonable translation. If I like it I can buy it online. That video was a really good sell of why I should read Beserk. Thanks!
Dogs! Sooo cute. One of the pictures reminds me of the dog on the Caesar packs of wet food. Now my afternoon is made.
