August 20th, 2021 4:39 PMBuffel SaftI've just uploaded 1.01, should fix Mightyena, Route 115 and the Air Balloon. Also added Blitz Boxer in. Current saves will still work with the new version (should stay that way for all future versions too).

August 20th, 2021 2:28 PMBuffel SaftOh lol I thought RHH had fixed that, guess I'll have to do it. I think enough bugs have been reported for me to get version 1.01 uploaded today; turns out the Air Balloon is causing softlocks so that's a major one.
The plates probably should go in battle items, I just put them in regular items to help reduce clutter in the battle items pocket (it's the biggest by far at 180 item slots). My excuse is that they're also form change items so they can go in the regular items pocket with nectars and things. -

Yo, friend's Quick Feet Poochyena just evolved into a Mightyena with no ability heh-
Also shouldn't the Arceus plates be kept in battle items, since their only use is as hold items for battle? Currently they're just in the regular items section. -
August 19th, 2021 11:12 PMBuffel SaftFair enough! I lost quite a few battles in my test playthroughs, so hopefully the AI can give you a few good fights too.
Yeah, I could just have a flat level increase for Challenge Mode, or maybe add a second level field to certain trainers so they can scale differently on higher difficulties. Definitely want to keep the cannon fodder trainers well below the player's level though. I've never seen another Pokémon game with this system, but a few other games have it (Diablo and Borderlands-style games for example). -
August 19th, 2021 10:22 PMJk HowlingFair enough, I didn't think about how many routes there were early on and whether people'd make a full team so quickly tbf.
Doesn't ruin things at all for me, I was just a bit caught off guard when I went rollin in at 16 and she popped a 13 heh. Honestly it sounds scarily fun knowing there'll be bosses that scale ahead further in- definitely expecting to get my butt kicked a few times, especially if Cynthia is as terrifying as she sounds..
Maybe that is something could change with the difficulty setting though, perhaps. Might be fitting for Challenge Mode to have less of a gap early on for gym leaders, like -1 for Roxanne and Brawly- so there's still a slight advantage, but not too big. Going flat even could be a bit too much challenge tbf. Could also make hard could be -2 for both, and regular as it is now? The sliding scales make things so interesting, I've never played something like that before honestly and can't wait to see more going further. -
August 19th, 2021 9:03 PMBuffel SaftTrainer levels are your highest level + or - a fixed value; Roxanne's mons are a lower level than yours because some people won't have a full team at that point, so she's balanced around having a numbers advantage instead. Brawly is similar, but will only be two levels lower, and his Hariyama will match your levels. Once you get to Wattson bosses will either be at or above your level for the rest of the game; it's only the early game that will have them at a lower level than yours. Hope that doesn't ruin the hack for you!
Edit: as usual I'm open to feedback on this sort of thing; it wouldn't be hard to set all bosses' Pokémon to be at least your highest level on certain difficulties! -
August 19th, 2021 8:21 PMJk HowlingI return with another question, regarding the level scaling..
You said trainer levels scale to your strongest pokemon. I grinded my entire team to level 16, but why is Roxanne's entire team is only level 13?
I hate being at a level advantage, especially in a challenge run, and am utterly confused why she's so low leveled when my team isn't.. I expected at least a fight on an even playing field for a gym fight, not one where the opponent is automatically at a disadvantage.. -
August 19th, 2021 7:32 PMBuffel SaftNo problem!
-
August 19th, 2021 7:29 PMJk HowlingAwesome, that'll help a lot. Thanks a bunch!
-
August 19th, 2021 7:11 PMBuffel SaftIt'll be different for everyone with the auto level scaling, but it's roughly:
Roxanne 15-20
Brawly 20-26
Archie 1 24-28 (Slateport)
Wattson 36-40
Maxie 1 45 ish
Flannery 45-47
Norman high 40's, low 50's.
From Norman onwards you're a high enough level that it doesn't matter - all the important trainers will have full EV spreads at that point, and they just assume your team is fully evolved. If you hit level 100 before the post game you'll miss out on the overlevelled Cynthia fight, but she's still pretty fun to battle when you're both level 100. -
August 19th, 2021 6:49 PMJk HowlingOoo priority punching moves sounds crazy, I must've missed Sand Song though.
Also you wouldn't happen to be able to make a little "x gym leader is designed for around this level" type list, would you? Or would aiming around the vanilla level curve work, at least for the early game? Really worried about overgrinding for things in a challenge run oop. -
August 19th, 2021 6:02 PMBuffel Saft- Yeah, trainer levels scale to your strongest Pokémon, and wild Pokémon scale based on your entire party. There's no level cap system so grinding is still an option. Roxanne's designed for level 15 - 20 so hopefully you won't get too much higher than that!
- I'm just pointing people at the source code for now, will do a proper doc once gen 8 and the standard version are done.
- Sand Song should be in the doc, it's a Ground-type version of Liquid Voice (so sound moves become ground type and do 20% more damage)
- Blitz Boxer is something I completely forgot to implement (knew there was going to be something!), but it will give priority to punching moves once it actually exists.
Glad you're enjoying it!
Oof good catch, that's definitely something I added. Will be easy to fix at least. -
August 19th, 2021 5:36 PMJk HowlingAlso, a friend found a soft-lockable spot, I think its in the standard Emerald too but maybe you could mess with the map a little at some point and remove that as a possibility? It's right above Rustboro City. I could imagine it'd be really annoying to get stuck there accidentally via speedup or something.

August 19th, 2021 5:17 PMJk HowlingI had a couple questions by the way!
-Levels seem to just be on a constant scale with no set caps for important fights, is that correct? Just wondering, cuz I'm worried about getting too high and ending up fighting Roxanne's base forms with like, a Sceptile or something if I go too high lol-
-Are you going to drop an important trainers doc at any point? Would be v useful ;w;
-What do the abilities Sand Song and Blitz Boxer do? Saw them on the Pokemon docs but its not in the Battle Changes doc.
Psyducking loving it so far even though I haven't even reached the first gym yet haha, gonna be a baller hack. Can't wait for the thread to pop up! -
August 19th, 2021 5:08 PMBuffel SaftHey! Yeah it's a bit of a pain lol. Hopefully the thread'll get the all clear soon so there's an easy link to it.
