January 6th, 2016 5:14 PMbobandbillI've been waiting for you to reply since last year! :V
Working from home today actually! Certainly a perk. =) Both my supervisors aren't around this week, so might as well save myself train trips when I can do stuff here. Either way, plugging laptop into another monitor is pretty easy with how I have it set up, no shuffling required.
I've heard someone else in that arrangement, and others with the lease extensions. *shrug* We'll see. Would rather a lease myself for the next year, going to take longer than that with the thesis at least.
Teaching others how to solve problems then, I see.
Depends when they get announced/I find out about them! After than it's figuring out if it's worthwhile, registering/applying for talks, arranging travel and etc via the uni. Last time I found out about a conference in a casual conversation in December, and only had stuff sorted I think in Feb...? (it was in America mid-March). Went to another in Melbourne with arrangements started/completed within a month from the conference, so it can be short notice. -
January 6th, 2016 4:55 PMLozzHappy New Year! Haven't replied since last year... Lol. You're back at work now then, shuffling between your multiple monitors? Hahaha. Yah our lease is up in about a week but I don't think we will extend it, just keep living here and hope they don't kick us out... Haha- seems to be how it's done anyway!
Umm hard to explain, basically we have to learn all these startup/entrepreneurial methodologies and then use them to teach different teams how to understand their customer/solve their customer's problems. So basically internal consulting. Probably not overseas w/ same company as their overseas presence is not amazing, but will see how things go!
How's being back at work? I am off until Monday aha. When will you know what conferences you can go to? -
December 28th, 2015 11:05 PMbobandbillBusy but enjoying it, certainly. =) I don't know if I will go to Europe yet (need to see what conferences come up, and when), but if I do I'd probably visit Poland outside of it, and then some countries I haven't seen yet.
Nah, my laptop has been close to the router. =p Screen's kinda bad so got it connected to the monitor upstairs while I wait for another laptop thanks to the uni. =) But it may take a while... luckily I also have another monitor at work and in my flat. Still living there with the same person, hopefully should be able to extend the lease!
What does this Strategy and Innovation team do? And overseas with the same company, or something else? Good luck with it! -
December 28th, 2015 3:10 AMLozzYou sound busy Martini!! But good busy. Enjoying yourself? Are you going to go to Europe? Poland? Lol
Farm was ok. Just had some cousins up and chilled out for a few days. Back in Syd now which is better, bit more to do ahaha. Miss my family a bit though! You've been chilling on the central coast, with poor proximity to your router? Haha! Still living in the same place again this year/same people?
My 2016 plans are pretty boring so far - my grad program goes until July, so I will be finishing up with that and then hopefully rolling off into the Strategy and Innovation team I've been with lately. So fingers crossed about that. Potentially will go overseas as well, will see how things go once I've rolled off haha. -
December 27th, 2015 3:16 AMbobandbillNot too much, but there was a conference in the Blue Mountains. Besides that busy-ness had to do with observing (lots of it in a concentrated amount of time @[email protected] And partly my fault, haha), paper writing/editing and proposal writing. Ah, I did spend a couple weeks in Uluru in September! I was doing astronomy outreach there, was pretty fun. =)
I'm back on the 4th and back at my flat a couple days before that at most- only two weeks off for uni. :< But I have separate leave building up, so if I get another trip overseas - say, somewhere in Europe - over the next year it'll be used during that. As for the 'what's on in 2016' question, well, more PhD stuff. =p Couple of conferences middle of the year in Sydney, besides that we'll see (probably/hopefully something). Maybe Perth trip in November at least.
How was the farm trip? I assume you spent Christmas there. And what are your 2016 plans? -
December 26th, 2015 11:37 PMLozzOh congrats! Do you get to travel much for it? Hope your Xmas was very merry! When you back at work? I have just come back from the farm, it was ok!! What's on for 2016??
-
December 20th, 2015 10:39 PMbobandbillPretty decent! Rather busy last period of the year for me with uni, but some productivity in it too. I'm leading an telescope observing proposal! \o/ Currently up on the coast for the Christmas break with family.
How about yourself? -
December 20th, 2015 7:09 PMLozzMartini <3 how has your 2015 been? What's news??

I am alright! Just working/seeing friends, I am not very exciting these days haha. -
August 22nd, 2015 2:33 AMbobandbillYeah. I've known my roommate since high school and we're both doing a PhD and have shared a room before on a uni conference trip, so no worries there.
I'm tidy enough, haha.
How's stuff going for you? -

August 19th, 2015 4:13 PMbobandbillWHoops sorry for delay. Finally getting net today (optus), had a 4g router in the meantime but we were conserving data so no videos or the like. =(

August 3rd, 2015 7:09 PMbobandbillNot just yet, haha. Bit more unpacking in my room, and then we have to get a fridge (have a temporary bar fridge for now though) and washing machine. And internet! Waiting on a setup day/time for that one. We got power at least, but I had to make some phone calls to get things sorted. -_- But so far, so good overall.
