June 24th, 2014 7:02 PMNolafusYeah, I'll go and find some famous people/characters and write up the other half. I'm still pretty bummed about Richard's disappearance. We were supposed to be partners in crime! I.. uhh.. mean writing. Yeah, partners in writing.
And I'll look at some of the other ideas and see if one pops out. Ooh, another pokemon! I'll be willing to write out another competitive section, if you want it/need help with it. -
June 24th, 2014 5:01 AMbobandbillAnd not a short one by any means either!
Maybe, I suppose it would be better than dropping it completely. And hey, if you're out of ideas there's always other ones lying around I suppose if you want to poke them. Plus the next Pokemon analysis line was picked by the RNG gods again. -
June 23rd, 2014 7:43 AMNolafusI'm just happy I finally completed an idea.
I hope he's okay too. I've been trying to think of an article idea recently, but my lack of fanfiction ideas is starting to get to me. Should I just go ahead with the article we were working on? -
June 23rd, 2014 3:57 AMbobandbillI can relate. Although idk if it was so much as a relief by the time I had finished my fic that was my first one... kinda hard to describe how it was to write 'The End', and then posting it as well. Was a good feeling at any rate, haha.
I see, that's unfortunate. I hope he's fine and will come back, place is becoming inactive again. =( Although some stuff is on its way for the forums I suppose. -
June 22nd, 2014 10:13 AMNolafusThanks! It's a relief.
You probably know as much about Richard's disappearance as I do. I sent him a PM a while ago asking on the progress on the article, but I haven't heard back. He's been on since then, so he might have seen it, but he hasn't responded. -
June 22nd, 2014 5:09 AMbobandbillCongrats on posting the last part of your fic! \o/
Question - do you know where Richard on the BBS has gone? Seems to have disappeared of late. =( I know you were working with him on an article, hence why I ask you. -
May 31st, 2014 11:18 PMNolafusThat's pretty cool! Heck, maybe one day there will be a telescope powerful enough to see the big bang! Well, it's a thought. Anyway, seeing early galaxies is pretty amazing. I would love to do something like that, if it weren't for all of the math. I'm quite impressed with all of the work you've done!

May 31st, 2014 9:15 PMbobandbillMy project has to do with radio astronomy. Basically, a radio telescope being built in Western Australia (currently in testing stages for an initial build, can already take some data successfully!) is going to look at galaxies really far away, and look at the spectra of them. By looking for signs of hydrogen absorption (which you can do even for really far away galaxies with radio telescopes) it's going to give us data on how much hydrogen there is and whereabouts for different galaxies.
That's important because you need hydrogen in the right state/temperature/etc to be able to form stars (and in the end us =p), so knowing that is important to learning more about how galaxies formed and their structure. And it's going to do it for galaxies that are really far away, and hence looking at 'early' ones (i.e. those that formed earlier in the universe's history). By that I mean seeing galaxies as they were billions of years ago. We don't have much data of this sort for such galaxies either.
I'll be more on the computational and analysis-of-data side. Already doing some work in deciding what known galaxies we should use as targets in testing out the telescope!
I am so subtle. Like a fox. -
May 31st, 2014 7:24 PMNolafusNice! What are you researching, if I may ask? I might not know a lot about the mathematics that go behind everything, but I'm always fascinated by science.
I responded to that after an edit of my own! And way to be subtle about the location. :P -
May 31st, 2014 7:19 PMbobandbillPlanning on taking the half course, assuming I do well enough with these assignments, sometime next semester (it was apparently a good one from people I've talked to, and again will be relevant and even useful for my research). So this year, meaning afterwards I won't have my research work interrupted by assignments and etc! \o/
Also see that thread in that place I made a edit to the post just before -
May 31st, 2014 7:02 PMNolafusWow, that didn't take long at all! All the hard work is paying off. When do you think you'll be completely done?
-
May 31st, 2014 5:58 PMbobandbillHerp missed this.
Yes... an ugly messy name. =p Too long, haha.
Nah, each class in the course is more of less a constant difficult, haha. Last assignment for that course which is practically done due tomorrow, and another assignment Friday for a second course, and then I've done 1.5 credits out of 2 for my whole PhD already! -
May 13th, 2014 9:51 PMNolafusAlright, I'll mail the hot chocolate to you! :V
Doctorbobandsenseibill
Now that would be a name!
It doesn't sound like much fun. Are the classes getting harder? If I remember correctly, you said something about how you were taking honors classes and how those were pretty challenging, and you were wondering if these classes were going to be harder or easier. Relatively speaking, of course, because the classes are still pretty dang challenging either way, I bet. -
May 13th, 2014 5:44 PMbobandbillWho can say no to whipped cream? :B
Or Sensei Doctor! Or maybe bob can take one title, and Bill the other.
But it wasn't very fun. =( Nearly every subject I had in undergrad had a final exam, although that isn't surprising for maths and physics I suppose. -
May 13th, 2014 1:40 PMNolafusAlright, I can do that too! Would you like whipped cream?
Ooh, sensei. Alright, in three years I'll start calling you Doctor Sensei.
You should still say you took it for fun. It sounds way more impressive that way. Still, having no final exam is nice! My mega-class my first quarter of college didn't have a final exam, so I was relaxing while everyone was studying. :P
