May 13th, 2014 4:44 AMbobandbillI don't know what that is! Gimme a hot chocolate instead. :>
Well, in three or so years. You can call me Sensei though, as I do teach karate... ;p
And pfft, not for fun. I have to do coursework anyway, and it has some advantages over other subjects (namely that lack of exam and full credit worth; now after this last assignment I'm done with the course!). Plus, given my PhD work is in astrophysics (radio astronomy to be more specific), it's (somewhat) more relevant to it than a number of other subjects available, some which I already did last year anyhow. -
May 9th, 2014 7:03 PMNolafusI learned how to make coffee today! I now know what an iced, triple vanilla americano with a splash of half and half is!
Ooh, will I have to start calling you Doctor Bobandbill? And are you seriously taking plasma astrophysics just for fun? -
May 9th, 2014 6:25 AMbobandbillHeh, probably!
Yeah, that wouldn't be helpful for it to catch on if it's hard to understand. It's fine to have some underlying complexity, but I think for something to catch on it should be simple enough for most people to jump inot.
It was hard. =( And well, technically I have graduated, or leastways will have the ceremony for completing undergrad at the end of the month (with the hat and everything!). =P PHD for the next three or so years, and then... well, hard to say. Stay with a uni in a postdoc position, or find something in industry. I'll try for the first, but will need to keep my options open anyway.
Plasma astro was just a postgrad course with no final exam and worth a full credit, I didn't have to take it. =p -
May 5th, 2014 11:47 AMNolafusYeah, I don't like coffee either. Just further proof that the FF&W mods are the same person.
I found it interesting, but it was really complicated. It's probably why it never got popular. I've had the game for over five years, and I still don't fully understand it!
Wow, that seems... hard. I would take one look and run away! What are you planning to do once you graduate? It has to be pretty big if it requires plasma astrophysics. -
May 5th, 2014 5:09 AMbobandbillAh, I see. Pizza and coffee stand though, neat! Well, certainly the pizza one. I actually don't drink coffee, although I can't argue with a hot chocolate... learning how to make delicious pizza sounds like a great skill, haha. send some please
That looks like a pretty interesting sort of card game. Giant crabs attacking ships? Dang.
It's an assignment for a plasma astrophysics course. Basically with these assignments it's maths disguised as plasma physics. :V So solving a bunch of questions with a lot of algebraic manipulation along the way. Writing some up rn, and it's due tomorrow. Luckily I only need 50% on each assignment for credit (some benefits to post-grad courses I suppose), and I should have enough to be comfortable. -
May 1st, 2014 10:47 AMNolafusThe job isn't the night hours one. They filled that one, but they offered me a job at their pizza and coffee stand. So, I'll be learning how to make delicious pizza and coffee. That will involve interacting with other people, but I think I'll be fine.
I just had a couple friends over last night and we started a really old card game I had. You would buy a pack and then punch out a bunch of parts from various cards and build ships from there. Then, you would sail around and try to obliterate your friends (or enemies!) in turn based combat. Here's a picture:
It's a shame the game got discontinued. On the bright side, if you can find a box shoved away in a corner of a card shop, you can get it for dirt cheap. I'm the only one that collected it, apparently.Spoiler:
I might have all three of these, but I'm not sure. I know I have the giant crab, it's kind of hard to forget that one.
I was looking for a fic to review, when I realized that almost all of the fics already have several chapters up. Yours was one of the only ones without any replies, so I went for it. I really enjoyed it!
Ooh, good luck with that assignment. What do you have to do? -
May 1st, 2014 4:36 AMbobandbillIf someone calls you out you just run off screaming until they forget, and then resume stalking! :B
Yeah, that was what I meant. And you seem to have indicated you got it too, hurrah! Good luck with it and killing night hours while making money too! =D
And yay for playing games with friends! I hung out with friends during easter weekend as well and played video games.
Cheers for the review btw for my new story! I'll get a reply tomorrow evening probably, kinda busy. Also gotta take some screenshots of bbs stats. Kinda a quiet month, hopefully we can get more articles out for May... Least I got something put together during the week, especially as I have an assignment to attack this weekend. >_> -
April 27th, 2014 6:13 PMNolafusOh, I got called out one time, and I haven't done any stalking since. Although, it wasn't really stalking, but trying to find out why people weren't responding to my VMs right away, as I'm kind of an impatient person. :P
Well, I'm not sure what you mean by finding something else, but I have a job interview tomorrow! I'm excited because it will be my first job (assuming I get it [which I will]), so I'm looking forward to the experience and having the extra cash. I'll be a part of the team of people that stock the shelves at midnight at one of my local grocery stores, so it goes great with my night owl personality.
As far as actual events, I just got done with a party for one of my friends. He's going off to boot camp tomorrow for the Army, so we spent the night just playing some Magic the Gathering, D&D, SSBB, and all the regular nerd games. It was a lot of fun, but I'm feeling a bit tuckered out. Well, I'm feeling tired almost all the time, but I'll be more in-detail about that in my FF&W thread. I'm not sure I want just anyone to read it for more than one reason. Don't worry, it's nothing to fret over.
As far as writing, FF&W has me filled up. I'm not writing that much lately, for myself, that is. I write a lot when it comes to reviews, my lessons, and general FF&W stuff, which leaves me a bit tired for my own writing. Alien Poverty is coming along. The final chapter is going at a snail's pace, but it's going.
Your fic sounds interesting, and I've heard good things, so I'll have to check it out sometime. -
April 27th, 2014 4:44 AMbobandbillEx-stalker? You can't have retired already, surely? D=
Well, that's up to you, haha. read all my fics But yes, it should be decently explained, I feel. In general though Pokémon Colosseum is not so unlike the main games as it is, unlike many other spinoffs. For one, battles work the same way (at least, with 3rd gen mechanics, so like RSE =p). The notable differences are that each battle was a double battle, so two Pokémon out at any one time. (In the game, anyway. ;p) So that should be already familiar to you.
The other major point is that the game had something called Snagging. Instead of catching wild Pokémon (hard because the game's setting is mostly desert/a ruined region!), in Colosseum you steal Pokémon from trainers via special Poké balls! You do this heroically though because these Pokémon you stole are 'Shadow Pokémon', Pokémon turned bad basically. Then you make them good again with the power of friendship (they sure love fighting for you yay battles).
Naturally that mechanic was heavily tied into the game's plot. And that should be also not so out-of-the-blue as the fic goes too. I hope, anyway. And that concludes my ramble.
How goes in rl, btw? Any luck in finding something else? :< And what about writing too, of any sort? -
April 26th, 2014 11:04 PMNolafusHi stalker! I'm an ex-stalker!
Anyway, I'd thought about reading your fic before, but wasn't sure whether or not I would get it. I've read another fic from another franchise before, since the author said that people that weren't familiar with the series would get it, but to make a long story short, I didn't get it at all.
And that's why I haven't read your fic. Although, now that I know that you included something for people like me who haven't played it, I might give it a shot. -
April 25th, 2014 5:16 PMbobandbillHi I am a stalkerBobandbill used to be pretty active too. I was reading his "Retelling of Pokémon Colosseum" fic for a while there. I wasn't overly impressed by it, though... But, the game itself as hard to really novelize, I think.Like I said, it was years ago. I'm not even sure if the forum history/index goes back that far or if the fanfic was even completed. It was finished! Two years back, and sitting near the top of the Fanfiction Archive section. (Also the BBS of course, that's just me reposting bits as I do minor edits. Which I'm also updating on PC as well.
(I suppose it does help to have played Colosseum, but I included info at the end of each chapter explaining how the fic relates to the game so you'd only miss out on some jokes I suppose.) -
April 20th, 2014 10:34 PMNolafusAh, I know Yoda. They aren't very active, but I know they exist! I wish I knew some people offline in real life. I tried to get my friend to join, but they only stuck around for three posts.
-
April 20th, 2014 4:31 PMbobandbillAlready have one, haha. (Started before I sent that VM =p). RL friend in fact! (They are on the bbs, just not too actively too - Yoda on there. Proof read the odd article on Wynaut too).
-
April 20th, 2014 10:30 AMNolafusOoh, that's pretty cool. Have any beta-readers in mind?
-
April 20th, 2014 12:12 AMbobandbillI doubt that would be the case, haha. But sad if so.
Not as said as my username being taken though! *shakes fist*
By the by, I am pretty close to having a few-part fic done. As in, it is in the beta reading stage. :B
