'The Metang was lucky to get that attack in before it was hit by Earth Power,' thought Selene with a small smile, watching as the Flash Cannon hit Aitken head on. It looked as though the Claydol hadn't even attempted to lessen the damage the attack would cause. As the light from the attack subsided, Aitken remained floating in the air, seemingly unharmed. Grinning widely, Selene laughed to herself - of course a Steel type move wasn't going to be super effective on Claydol, but that Aitken was one well-trained Pokemon. She almost felt bad having traded her weaker Pansear for it, but then she remembered that the boy himself had suggested the trade. How foolish of him...
"Way to go Aitken," she encouraged, in stark contrast to how Calnith was treating his own Pokemon. Not that Selene had noticed particularly, she was too concentrated on her own battle.
"Use Dig, Aitken," she instructed, watching as the Claydol began spinning as a blur and burrowed underground, her smile widening. After a moment, the Pokemon burst out from underneath where Colossus was, still spinning rapidly.
Calnith didn't care for what Selene had said next and what was with the smile? He was more focusing on the Claydol. The Metang and Claydol both and moves that were super effective to the other so Calnith would have to rely on Colossus' power. Once the earth had started to shake NightWing flew off of Calnith's shoulder and Shinryu made a worried face. The Gabite didn't want to see these two fighting, well not like this. There was a lot of hate between the two and Shinryu could tell and hated it.
"Colossus Flash Cannon," Calnith ordered with a soft voice. He figured that Colossus couldn't avoid the Earth Power attack but could deal some good damage. As the Metang then put its hands together and charged the the Earth Power attack was already about to hit it. As soon as it fired the Flash Cannon it was hit by the Earth Power and was knocked by flying past Calnith and landing hard on the rock ground.
"Colossus get up," The red haired trainer said coldly not really caring for the well being of his Metang. The Metang laid on the ground for a few moments before getting up slowly obvious in a lot of pain and weak.
"I'll say we're alike all I want, Calnith, we're more like daybreak and twilight than day and night I'd wager" smiled Selene, seemingly innocently. As though she wasn't saying this with the intent of winding up the boy in front of her. Which she totally was, but ultimately she was a great actress. Not that she'd ever tried to mask her hatred for Calnith - not only did his views on people sicken her but she just saw him as inferior to herself, in every way. Normally the ideas of people being superior or inferior didn't bother Selene one jot - as in, it didn't change how she interacted with them. But combined with her intense dislike for Calnith...that was a different story.
Although...she frowned a little as she smiled to herself...this interaction had brought up an understanding of the boy that she hadn't known before. The realisation that their views corroborated to even a slight extent was unexpected, and it made her think that perhaps she had been the one who was seeing things distortedly up to now. It took her Father's death for her to realise that at the end of the day the only person who could stand with you constantly was...yourself. This lesson, she was still learning it. Some would say that she was in denial - that phase of grief before she moved through the depressed anger at her situation - and so she was pushing people away and closing them out as a coping mechanism. Selene knew differently though, this was life. She was just growing up.
As Calnith called out Colossus, Selene looked at the Claydol that had been floating nearby, watching the situation. Now would be a good chance to stretch Aitken's metaphorical legs because obviously floating Claydol don't actually have legs and see what the traded pokemon could do. Having decided this, she reached into her pocket and pulled out her PokeDex, checking the Claydol's moveset. With raised eyebrows, she pocketed the device again and looked up with a small smirk tugging at the side of her mouth.
"Very well. Aitken, use Earth Power!" she ordered, watching as the Claydol glowed a golden colour. Suddenly the ground beneath them began to shake and tremble, cracks appearing, rapidly stretching toward Colossus with yellow beams erupting from the crevices.
Calnith's once cocky smile disappeared and now a annoyed frown appeared on his face. He was getting tired of this and it seemed that the girl wasn't as bothered as he expected. Her petty insult about brain cells just made him roll his eyes, she couldn't think of anything better than that? She then began to say things Calnith didn't expect, unlike the rest of the happy go luck idiots here she had a grip on the concept of things ending. It sounded weird coming out of her mouth and Calnith wanted to say something but the next words to come out of her mouth surprised him.
They way she spoke about using them and not needing them made Calnith raise a brow. So she wasn't as pathetic as he expected there was a lot he didn't really understand about this girl but, at the same time there was a lot she didn't know about him. His frown went to a grin when she said they were similar, he honestly wanted to laugh at that. If they were truly similar then she would understand why he was the way he was. She would get his desire for perfection and control. "Don't say we are alike," He growled with a bit of disgust in his voice.
"We aren't alike and never will be girl, we are like day and night," Calnith said with an annoyed face. Though Selene might be right Calnith would never accept the truth, well not from her. He was also a bit annoyed that the girl didn't seem to be bothered by his comment about Valorie or the Vincent boy. Maybe she wasn't all as bad as Calnith thought, still though he wanted her head there was something about her that made him want to see her dead.
"A battle eh?" He questioned as he looked over to Cerberus who was happy about the idea. He signaled Colossus to be the first one up to battle, the Metang was close to evolve to a Metagross and this fight will be good. "Alright Selene ladies first eh?" Calnith added giving Selene the first move.
"Talking like that about my friends will touch many nerves, that's pretty obvious Calnith..." said Selene slowly, as though she were talking to a very young, rather dim-witted child. "You sure were at the back of the line when Arceus was handing out brain cells, weren't you? Perhaps they will," she shrugged lightly, "perhaps they won't stick around. One thing I've learnt recently is that nothing is forever..." her mouth turned upward slightly into a somewhat twisted smirk. The next words that came from her lips were so un-Selene like, Calnith may well pick up on how different she was despite his not knowing her very well previously.
"They're useful while they are around. I'll use them when I need them. As it stands, to answer your second question, I don't need them to train, so I don't want them around. I never said that I needed friends," she laughed somewhat bitterly and her smirk widened, "but that doesn't mean that I don't like having them around in certain circumstances. You're so dogmatic, you make me somewhat nauseous. We're alike, you know. I don't need anybody but myself, now more than ever I have learnt how to fend for myself. Having friends doesn't make that any less true you know."
She didn't even rise to the slight at Valorie. It seemed as though Selene truly agreed with Calnith, that she felt the same as he did but was just more willing to use her friends when she wanted to. This was completely unusual for her. Whilst inside part of her wanted to smack Calnith down personally for the dissing of Valorie, a greater part of her just didn't really care, and her outrage at how he had talked about Vincent had completely worn off, extremely quickly.
"Stress relief is as good a reason for a battle as any, let's go. Right here, right now," she threw down the challenge and raised an eyebrow at Calnith, as though daring him to turn her down.
"Did I touch a nerve there talking about Vincent?" Calnith asked as he laughed. "Tch the word friends is used so much around here," He sighed. "What's the point of friends people you can talk to? People you can trust? People who will be there when you need them? Don't make me laugh they'll desert you the moment they get the chance. I don't need friends! I don't need love, friendship, someone to care for me I don't need any of that stupidity when I have myself," Now Calnith was raising his voice he was speaking out of bad experiences.
"If you have so called friends you can turn to why not call them to train? Wouldn't be most efficient if you were to train with others? Or is it the fact that you yourself can't stand others and training is your little escape from this stupid world?" Calnith questioned not really caring for an answer. He then let Colossus and Shinryu out of their pokeballs.
"Taking out your pokemon won't change anything you'll still think the same way you do and I'll still think the same way I do no matter the outcome of a battle Selene we're both hardheaded but a fight might let me take some much needed stress out," He said with a smirk at the idea of beating her in a battle. "Oh and yes Vince is such a great person! Oh yes the idiot is about as smart as a mound of dirt. Speaking to me like I actually had a softer side like my outer personality was all from a sad past oh yes boo woo for Calnith be my friend Vincent!," Calnith laughed as he began to talk about Vincent.
"I put on a convincing show for the boy making him feel like he was right about me being an actual victim of some sad past. Truthfully I figured if I became friends with him I could use his pokemon for my own evil intentions but I figured if those pokemon belong to him they're not worth it. He's bad but not as bad as that god forsaken blonde girl," The red head was having way to much fun and now bringing up Valorie should be fun.
Frowning, Selene growled lightly when Calnith began talking about Vince in that manner, moronic? That was just out of order. Sure, Selene couldn't promise Vince the world at that moment but she cared about him so much that her instinct to protect his character broke through the grief-induced trancelike state that had taken over her, and she felt her fists closing around two of her Pokeballs.
"you will not talk about Vincent like that," said Selene, drawing herself up tall and staring Calnith in the eye. "He is an amazing person and I...I care about him. More than anyone has ever cared about you in your miserable life I dare say," she sang lightly, her tone completely changed.
"I have friends that I can turn to, if I want to, but not when I'm training. But at least I have the option. Unlike you," she noticed that Calnith had taken two pokeballs and her smirk widened. "Seriously? You're thinking you can take my Pokemon, shut me up that way? You're an even greater fool than I thought," scoffed Selene arrogantly.
Calnith stopped walking as Selene spoke at Cerberus started to growl again. "We'll see who's laughing when I crush everything you care about," Calnith said smirking a bit at the idea. He couldn't stand it when people took him for a joke and this girl had the guts to pretty much say it in his face.
"Are you sure you two alright? How do you know Vincent isn't just putting on a show so you won't worry about him? Vincent is a naive kid who enjoys the happiness of others who to tell that he's not hurting inside when he always has that goofy, moronic, happy look on his face," The red haired trainer said with a laugh. The last thing she said made him smile a bit, does she not know who he is? He doesn't need friends they just get in the way, ticks that just get in his way.
"I don't need friends never have never will and that's a lot coming from you Selene! You've got plenty of friends that are with you right now having so much fun!" Calnith said as he pulled out Colossus' and Shinryu's pokeballs.
Selene's eyebrow tilted upwards slowly as Calnith spoke. Most powerful? Most perfect? She looked over his Pokemon, then to the pokeballs on her own belt, and burst out laughing. She howled with almost hysterical laughter, as though her sides were about to split open from the effort. After a while she calmed herself and wiped a tear from her eye with a deep breath.
"you make me laugh, Calnith , I'll give you that. I don't know if you're trying to be funny or not, but either way you are an absolute giggle. In terms of teenage boys..." she thought of Vincent and inwardly grimaced, her expression remaining placid with a calm smile, "I assume you're referring to Vince, and showing just how ignorant you are in the process. Vince and I are more than fine, we're good friends, which is more than you can say for...well, anyone I guess!" she clasped her hands together in front of her and beamed at Calnith as he passed, rocking forward on the balls of her feet.
Hmm impressive looking Claydol Calnith thought as he watched the girl release the pokemon. Her attitude toward him was expected but Calnith felt as if there was something else bothering the girl at a deeper level than just Calnith being there.
"Fine Claydol," He said as he inspected it for a moment. It looked pretty powerful to bad it was in her hands he would love to get a pokemon with its strength under his control. "Cerberus, NightWing come," Calnith said making his Houndoom stop growling and coming to his side. His Murkrow then perched back onto his trainers shoulder.
"There is no need for the attitude," He said first at Selene's comment about his pokemon being weak. "They might be weak now but they will be the strongest and most perfect pokemon ever," He added with a bit of anger in his voice. He didn't want to deal with her but she was asking for it.
"Don't you have some teenage boys to torment?" He was referring to Vincent as he noticed the boy acting strangely of late. Calnith then began to walk past her if she were to say something he would let Cerberus deal with her. "By the way conquering the universe is not my goal just this planet to pay for all of its wrong doings," Calnith said walking.
A shrill noise sounded above Selene's head - looking up she noticed a Murkrow she didn't recognise flying round and round over her head, and was immediately on her guard. Throwing her arm forward almost on autopilot she released her newly acquired Claydol, only to be distracted as a very familiar Houndoom stood in the mouth of the cave growling at her.
She merely stared at the Pokemon, her gaze shifting up to Calnith as he entered. Tutting, she rolled her eyes impatiently and folded her arms.
"I know who you are, Calnith, your first name would have sufficed. In any case, I don't want anything from you. You're the one who intruded on my solitude I think you'll find..." allowing her eyes to pass from Cerberus to Thor then up to Nightwing she laughed under her breath, feeling a sudden urge to mock the boy in front of her.
"still trying to conquer the universe with these weaklings hey?"
Calnith was walking toward a cave with NightWing on his shoulder and Thor walking beside him on the left with Cerberus on his right. He wanted to train his weaker pokemon to get them stronger but at the same time wanted to get his Metang to evolve. In order to control this world he needed to be the strongest.
NightWing flew off of Calnith's shoulder and started flying somewhere and Cerberus took off also growling at something. The red haired trainer sighed when he heard a familar voice. Selene, why out of everyone did it have to be her? He didn't feel like dealing with her but if he must.
"It's Calnith NeverWind," He said as he walked over to where Selene was. Cerberus was growling at the girl and NightWing was flying over her head cawing. "What do you want from me?" He asked with a annoyed tone.
