The first chapter. Just been playing that for like a hour and it seems to be a large game based on steam times.

Uh...not too long, the game's a pretty moderate length. If you don't spend too much time exploring, it probably won't take too long to beat, but I certainly wouldn't call it short.

    Why, how far are you?

How long is each level of Danganronpa? Not sure if I'm slow or it's long.

Same could be said for Penguindrum and Yuri Bears, really.

Or most things by the same creator. It's more what you expect out of the creator rather than the work.

Oh if that is your logic then watch it first. Summer Wars/Girl who leapt has barely anything to do with each other.

But if Yuri Bears's not as good, wouldn't it be better for me to watch Yuri Bears first? Seems like I'd enjoy it more that way. If I do it the other way around, I imagine I'd just keep comparing the two and end up not liking it.

Probably. It's happened before. It's the reason I don't really like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time that much.

Watch Penguindrum before Yuri Kuma. Just trust me.

Ah, I see. No, actually, I hadn't seen even heard of this until just now. My Winter anime schedule consisted of Durarara! (which, really, went into Spring), Death Parade, and Maria the Virgin Witch.

I'll give it a look, though. It's pretty short, so it'll be a nice pickup. Since I've actually heard of Penguindrum, I'll pick that up afterwards.

You should watch Penguindrum. You know I'm talking about Yuri Bears right though?
    He has done 3 shows.

Well it's not really the same, from what I can see on the surface. Haven't watched Penguindrum, so I couldn't say, but the shows seem to be vastly different and I can't really see Utena being a "Lesser" work. It's not weak by any stretch, and really as a director he's only ever done two shows.

So as far as it not being on par with the rest, I think it'd be more accurate to say that it's something that will be difficult to live up to, from a style aspect and from a thematic/storytelling aspect. It's quite popular and he's definitely proud of it.

The show didn't feel that shocking and lacked the fun penguindrum had. I know all good directors have a okay work that isn't on par with the rest though.

lol is that what people call Utena?

Well, I liked it. Apart from being well written, it just did a lot of good. The characters went from intentionally 2-dimensional to 3-dimensional, the story was great overall, and really only got better as it went, and the show really know how to effectively shock the viewer. It didn't do it often, which was why when it did happen it was particularly effective.

Apart from the finishing move often moving to the convenience of the plot, which wasn't really an issue, and the fact that I always felt...weak to the fact that most of the symbolism went over my head, it was a great experience that I'll be going back to sometime in the future.
