Conquest is a bit harder yeah but I always play the easiest settings anyway so it was never tedious, I don't like struggling in games lol. Guessing you're on the harder settings? I have mine set to revive units in the next turn if they die :(

Aw, it makes me really happy that someone really likes my stuff :D I'm still learning a lot myself, so I dunno about teaching haha. Just experiment, a lot!! And I would definitely check out deviantart, and look at tutorials and follow people who have stuff you admire. I always get inspiration when I check out what other people are posting, especially people who have stuff I like! Looking at tutorials and PSDs are really helpful, because you can see how people build up the signature, layer by layer. I went through and found some cool stuff \o/ one, two, three, four, five!

As for me personally, normally, when I smudge, I start out with a background texture or nebula of some sort, because I find it too difficult to start from scratch. And remember that stuff usually doesn't look amazing in the beginning; like I used to think "aw man this looks bad" when I wasn't even done with the background yet, but now I just try and keep going, and if it looks bad in the end then I accept it lol.
