the title screen animation, the screen goes completely black and there's this really glitchy screeching. I got my rom from dope roms and tried a few other sites too, seeing as cool roms and a few others have taken a lot of their pokemon roms down due to copyright.

By "Opening" do you mean the intro with Oak or the title screen animation? In the latter case I have no idea. A couple of people have come to me with this issue - I haven't been able to figure it out myself, unfortunately.

Only problem I can think of would be if you applied the patch to Fire Red 1.1 instead of 1.0.
