Hey, good to see your story is going on and I just noticed the new chapter.

Sorry I am not really able to provide much of a review of sorts for the time being, at least up until after Valentine's, as what little spare time I have is being spent on crunch planning and scene writing for a, well, Valentine's.

But will totally see what can I do afterwards. I mean, someone has to stop those kids! :p

Long posts are fine. :) I'm just super happy that our profiles are slowly becoming the only dedicated place on the forum to talk about Digimon!

Jeff Nimoy has stated multiple times that he wanted to dub the movies differently. He wanted the first two to be together. For the third movie, he didn't want to edit it down, but have it at its full length and released as a direct-to-video movie. But the higher-ups wanted the three movies shoved together into one movie to best fit the hour-and-a-half typical run time, leaving audiences with a terrible mess.

This morning, I spent some time wondering how much of Adventure's story would have changed if Hikari was written out (as originally planned). It evolved into an AU idea where the basic change is Takeru is the missing Chosen Child that they have to chase down. I don't know how well that idea would work, but it was a fun way to pass today's work shift!

I have to ask if you're planning on watching/have seen the original version of the third Digimon movie. I just saw the dubbed version last night, and it reminded me of just how much of a mess that movie was. I'm interested in your thoughts about the original version.

Also, yay on starting your writing of that Pokemon fic! :D I'm ashamed to admit that I put aside my reading of Digimon Campaign (started to read the Narnia series after reading another series of books that I enjoyed), so I'll be happy to catch one of your longer works from the start.

If you look at the general outline for any Digimon season, you can see just how lopsided Zero Two's plot is compared to others. As you said with Adventure, the Chosen had already defeated Devimon and were almost to Etemon's defeat. (I've been listening to several retrospective Digimon podcasts, so Adventure's plot is fresh in my mind, despite not watching it in years.) It's the same for the other seasons.

Tamers: In the Deva arc, and Juggernaut had been used
Frontier: All the beast spirits had been found, and Orphanimon summons the Chosen to the Rose Morning Star
Savers: The three main characters are in the Digital World, preparing to fight Merukimon

Compare those to Zero Two, where the Kaiser isn't defeated for another four episodes (outlasting the previous season's first villain by eight episodes), and then right after that is the rush of several different plot points and enemies. Never mind the interruption during the Kaiser arc with Dagomon and the dark world.

I just think a lot of how the Kaiser arc was plotted out and where it could have been condensed. With my rewrite (still stuck on chapter 2, by the way), I cut the Kaiser arc down from 21 episodes to 12 chapters, equivalent to an episode per chapter.

It's also strange how they keep driving home the Ishida-Takaishi brothers' dynamic. It even came up again in tri, when Meiko talked to Takeru in the bath house. But the writers could have shared different information related to the plot of tri rather than the relationship between two characters that everyone in the audience knows already.

The original version of the scene between Tailmon and Wizarmon actually did make me tear up, especially at the end there. I really hope there's some continuation to that character dynamic in tri, especially since it's such a large part of Tailmon's character and now she's been rebooted.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! :D

Episode 15 also has some of the worst animation I have ever seen. It doesn't look too bad in screenshots, but when it's in motion, it's really bad. Also, you can tell that this is a filler episode by the amount of evolution sequences. Between those and the amount of times the Digimon Analyzer came up for this episode, it's filler for the filler episode. Storyline couldn't even fill twenty minutes.

With that ending scene, I think Miyako was just annoyed that Daisuke first joked about cutting of ShogunGekomon's hair, but now he's being all serious. That's the way I take it, but I'm looking at screenshots instead of rewatching the episodes. (I'm still getting through Data Squad.)

How goes the tending of that plot bunny? My Ryo-less rewrite of my Digimon fic is going along...okay. I had to scrap my idea for chapter two, and skipped that to work on chapter three.

I thought your VM was going to begin by telling me that Zero Two was just so stupid that you stopped watching it.

Michael is a weird character. His father is a famous actor who is also white with blond hair and blue eyes (and apparently named "Michel J. Barton" if the movie poster for "Shoot the Darkness: Hell's Target" puts the staring actor in the first spot of the listing). As you said, he speaks fluent Japanese. Why that came about is a great mystery, along with how Mimi met him. Does she regularly meet the children of world-famous movie actors?

It's been a while since I really sat down and looked at what Purity could actually mean for a Chosen Child to have. I still think that Iori should have gotten Purity, but only because I don't want to follow the idea that Miyako gets both Love and Purity just because those are the "girl" qualities. But yes, the dub made more sense for this episode.

And looking through the screencaps of the episode where Daisuke's in New York, I completely forgot how American they made Michael's father. They gave him a cowboy hat and he's dressed up like a Texas ranger. Michael's whole family doesn't make sense.

My birthday lacked in fireworks, but it also lacked on exploding buildings, so overall it's been good.

Oh oops. This is what I get for doing some writing and then giving feedback to two fics, lol. It's fixed now.

I can't find where you mentioned it, but weren't you reading Lost Boys by Card? I wanted to know what you thought of the book, since it's one of my favorite Card books, even though I can't reread it. The ending kills me every time.

I'm still looking forward to your thoughts on episode 13. (I even went out and bought the complete works of Lovecraft to figure out what it's all about!)

I started to read your fic, and I'll write down any comments as I get through each chapter. Since it's been so long, it's like I'm reading Digimon Campaign for the first time again!

Sorry for the sudden disappearance. Life got in the way. Even though I did still have enough time to start watching Digimon Data Squad.

Between episode 4's need to have Miyako held back to have her D3 looked at and episode 11's need to have Miyako held back to sort through her feelings (which did take a very short time), it seems as if Zero Two is a prime example of the saying that the need of the logic is second to the need of the plot. There's a lot in Zero Two that could be looked at in that way. There doesn't even need to be big plot changes to fix the logic.

To do this they try to make it look like the issue is that Daisuke's unwilling to put himself in harm's way, and it doesn't work at all.
Especially in the context of episode 8, where Daisuke offered himself to the Kaiser in exchange for his friends. So not only was this episode apparently written by someone who didn't pay much attention to Adventure, it was written by someone who didn't pay much attention to characterization from three episodes ago.

And yet people argue that Zero Two doesn't have any plot holes.

Speaking of sports, I won't be able to watch an episode on Friday because the Washington Nationals are in the playoffs and I've got a ticket!
As a New York Mets fan, I can only shake my head at you for going to a Walgreens Nats game. :P At the very least, we can both cheer on the Nationals to beat the Dodgers, because I hate the Dodgers.

How did you manage to score tickets?

There's a subbed version of Digimon Universe's first episode. Just got done watching it.
