  • Thanks for the replay and for the good wishes! Finding a way to show all four sprites at once would be really hard since you just don't have the same resolution as in GBA. It'd probably mean having to create new resized sprites that I don't think could ever look good even if I somehow managed to get everything working. The battle HUDs alone take up a lot of space so I can't really imagine fitting 4 pokemon and four battle HUDs at a time. I thought about it before I started working and had to dismiss because it wasn't viable at all -not impossible though, but it's unfortunately beyond what I'm willing to try.

The idea is that there would be a few double battles here and there, not too many. Maybe 1-in-10 ratio at most so that it hopefully doesn't get too annoying. The suggestion about only showing one backpic when selecting the moves is not something I had thought about; I'll consider it. Personally, I think it would be more intuitive to have the current Pokemon backpic show even if that would invlove an extra sliding. It doesn't add any difficulty programming wise (can be changed in ten mins really, since it's just swapping a couple functions) so I'd test it and see how it looks like. Btw, something that isn't shown in the video is that when a Pokemon is scrolled in, instead of looking like it's coming out of it's pokeball again, it slides from offscreen (the opposite to what happens when the previous pic slides out). I think this makes it look a little bit better hopefully.
Hi random-man, I saw that you and Mateo were discussing the double battle system I implemented in Pokemon Red in the Pokemon Red++ thread. The reason I uploaded the video was because I wanted some feedback, so it was interesting to read what you guys said there. Do you think it would look better if the player was prompted (to press the A button) between each attack so that he/she has more time to figure out what's going on? What about slightly increasing the delay between each attack or each sprite slide? All in all, did you find it too annoying or hard to follow that if you were to play a hack with that double battle system implemented you'd rather it wasn't implemented? Thanks in advance.
I will be making a thread for the 649 patch soon. I'm going to need a lot of help in finding out what needs to be done
