Very apt description. I've never actually gotten to play stadium 2, and now I certainly regret that! That adds a whole new layer to Lance and one that only makes me love him more.
By the way, I totally agree with the comments on the other champions. I think Steven is the only one who comes even close in comparison. Cynthia certainly has the power to match, but not so many of the other things that make Lance so endearing. Steven is great, but he kind of has a bit of a 'better than you' air about him. Blue is honestly my second favorite champ, but he's obviously not the embodiment of a champion.
Absolutely. He always just felt so untouchable in class, style, and power especially when I was growing up. I don't know if it's nostalgia talking or not, but it has to be crystal for me as well. His battle theme and everything else about him was just perfect.
Very true. Some people just love to bash fanfiction in general, though, so regardless of what you write there will be "haters", and there's also the obvious issue of stepping on other people's headcanon. But eh. If/When I do get around to trying out fan fiction again, I'll try to avoid the Mary-Sue issue. I do hate Princess Celestia, after all.
Some people assume I'm a guy, some assume I'm a girl, and I'm ok with them assuming what they want. I just hadn't been sure what you assumed me to be up until then, and I've probably done and said things that point to both haha.
And you're right about Ash always taking the role of the male player, with the girl either absent or as eye candy. If I do get back into the idea of trying to write fan fiction, I think I know which player characters I'd focus on :p
Yeah, the argument that the ladies get their time in the spotlight with the main anime doesn't hold any water. Maybe the only ones they care about got any time, but they certainly weren't given a real role. Almost none of them pass the "Sexy Lamp Test" (aka you can replace them with a sexy lamp and the plot remains the same) and that's no way to represent a player character from an RPG (or anyone).
Side note, I don't remember actually claiming to be any gender, but I see you think of me as male :p
I wish I could say I was surprised, but Generations has been proving time and again that it isn't worth the time. Gamefreak needs to pull their heads out of their asses and wake up to what they're doing to the fans.
