  • In Dray's hacks I've had Audino, Croagunk, Graveler, Magnemite and Poochyena from memory. Might be more but I think the Magnemite and Audino were the only ones I trained.
I'd have to guess the Drifblim? Unless Dray changed its exp group it's very hard to get one of those to be your highest level mon!
Hey, I'm good (little busy lately though), hope you're good too!
    - The 2.0 list is half of what I'm working on, the other half is the mountain of issues with the battle engine. Currently waiting on a big battle engine PR of mine to be accepted before tackling the smaller issues so I can contribute without making more work for myself in the process. If people think I'm gone after a few months they're just extremely impatient haha. Lockdown has been over for a while now, so anyone expecting daily updates again is being completely unreasonable.
    - Absolutely not. One patch only (two if the standard version ever gets done)! I learned my lesson with EXWY; never make a billion versions unless they're 100% finished, it just creates more work. Gen 9 is out of scope - I'd like to actually finish this game some day, so I won't be including those mons. There's too much to do already!

That said, I might do a poll to see if people would rather have old saves or more box space etc. I wouldn't mind losing backwards compatibility, but I've said I'd try to maintain it and I'd like to keep my word on that if people want it.
    Hey.
    - No need for a poll, I don't think many people wouldn't want them in.
    - I could do this myself without much difficulty, the issue is that any system that puts dex flags in two places in the save will be ugly code that just overcomplicates things. I'd rather wait until I release a save-breaking update with some major changes (like more PC boxes) to add them in. IE only has two free dex flags right now, but needs at least 7 to include all the new evos and enamorus, so they're off the table for now. On top of that we still don't have enough info on them to properly add them to the game - I'd have to make up level learnsets from scratch and then do the same thing for all 240+ TMs/HMs/tutors in IE. That's is a lot of guesswork and hours of data entry that would need to be redone in future when we have official learnsets, so it's not really worth doing right now.

So basically they're not going to be included for quite some time.
    Hey!
    - Probably not. Adding new mons that aren't forms requires adding more dex flags, so adding them would either break existing saves or require me to add some hacky code to the dex to handle them. Need to wait for the rest of their data to come from Pokemon home first too.
    - I agree with you, would be a bit too much of a stretch. Pokemon does have time travel so they could be added, but there are plenty to add already and I'm spriting them all myself, so I doubt I'll include them.
Hey, I'm good, happy new year!
    - Yeah, they're a little short on moves but at least we know what their abilities are.
    - Will probably try that next time I play Renegade!
The issue isn't the cries, it's the code that compresses them (or at least I assume so - could be some other quirk). The cries in the source code are in a playable format and there's definitely no click at the end of any of them. I'd also expect the cries to be identical between BW1 and BW2 so I don't think that would help.
The gen 4 and 5 cries are all from the Pokeemerald expansion. The cries themselves are flawless (they were ripped from a BW2 ROM) but the code used to compress them has some issues apparently. At some point the gen 6 - 8 cries will be replaced with proper rips from the games too. The ones we're using now were made from recordings, so the quality is bad and they take up too much space.
Hey, not bad, how are you?

    - Yeah I'm considering making more of the gyms doubles as it definitely makes them harder. Will see if it's still needed once gen 8 moves/mons are added.
    - I probably won't be adding any new mini-games, there's enough to do as is haha!

I've got nothing against using stat boosting moves; I really like the Calm Mind/Bulk Up + HP draining move combo, it's very effective! Using them definitely makes the game easier, but at the end of the day it's Pokémon and there's always going to be some way to make the game super easy if you want to do that. Definitely agree that it's best to leave that choice up to the player.

I don't really use x items either, they feel kinda cheesy somehow. Pretty sure they're also broken in IE, but I'll fix them eventually!
    Hey!
Nah I'm still in lockdown so working on the hack is a nice way to keep busy!
Yeah more tutors are planned eventually; things like High Horsepower, Stomping Tantrum, Infestation and Work Up would be nice to have too. There wasn't room for them originally, but I expanded the tutors again to get the gen 8 moves in so there's plenty of space now!
    No problem!

That's good! I still don't know why it crashes for some people. I've never had issues with it on mGBA but for some people it's very unstable.
    Hey!
    - Yeah I've got no idea what's happening with their save file, I don't think it's an issue with the hack.
    - They should all be 50/50 in IE, so it'll seem like you're getting too many females after the last 20 years of the 12.5% female chance haha
    - Not all of them! I get too many to keep track of them all these days. I do appreciate getting suggestions though, there've been plenty of great ones
    - Usually I prefer the rebalanced versions; if the changes are good it can feel like playing a new game. It's nice being surprised by type changes or new coverage moves, helps to shake things up a little.

Yeah it's unusual for Dray not to make a version without stat changes. I think Rising Ruby felt a little "off" somehow compared to his other hacks, though I think part of that is just that gen 6 is too easy no matter what you do to it.
    Hey!
    - I've seen a little bit on other sites, but googling it mostly turns up dodgy pre-patched ROM downloads lol.
    - Seems to be mostly good I think? I don't expect everyone will like it, that's only natural.
    - Could be a cool feature in future! Might look into it after the frontier and dex are done.
    Hey!
    - Yeah I'm much more interested in fixing things and getting gen 8 ready than replacing cries that are already there (well apart from the gen 6-8 ones that need better quality samples - would be nice to replace those!).
    - She will be yep! I've renamed her Green to fit in with Red and Blue, but she'll also be a post game boss battle in the next version, complete with the Johto champion theme - gotta love the NDS music expansion!
    No problem!
I'd love to get make the low HP beeping stop after a certain number of beeps (or at least the end of the turn). It's just been raised as an issue for the battle engine so hopefully someone will get it working (if not I'll do it eventually)!
    Hey!
    - Abilities might have to be an exception as a few boss fights are designed around the perma-weather, and the AI isn't good enough to switch its weather setters in and out yet. There are ways around that if needed though (the standard version might just be stuck with certain battles starting with weather conditions already active).
    - Yeah I won't be touching the gen 3+ cries, the 3DS versions of those are 99% terrible haha. Replacing gen 1& 2 cries is very low priority, might not ever happen!
    - I can't make language settings an option unfortunately, there just isn't enough space. They'd have to be separate patches that other people maintain, so it'd be best if they were made after the game is finished. It'd be far too much work for me, this is only a hobby after all!
    - There's already one available!
    - No I'll be leaving them in the game corner, no need to put them in the wild too IMO.
    - Probably yes!
    - It should be possible, I asked Furret/CyanSMP64 (who created the NDS music expansion) how to remove tracks/save space and he's explained it very thoroughly. What I'll do is comment out any tracks I'm not currently using, then uncomment them as they're needed. There's definitely enough space to add BW music at least!
    - Maybe I'll use both!
    - Maybe, I don't know much about music hacking so that might be above and beyond what I can do for this hack. A lot of the newer gen themes sound like they'd be hard to convert into the GBA or NDS soundfonts. It's something I might look into once everything else is done.
Hey, pretty good, got lots of time to work on IE at the moment. How've you been?

    - Oh nice, Coma does very detailed reviews, was an interesting read!
    - Yeah I have a few more options for caps planned, they'll just be another setting in the intro. Level caps are very much a love 'em or hate 'em thing so I'm definitely not going to make them mandatory.
    - Agreed! I was a little burned out when making the giftmons scale so I didn't account for that at the time, just whipped up the code as quickly as I could. It's easy to fix at least!
    - Definitely, a lot of the current non-Audino honey encounters are just filler until gen 8's ready. I can add honey encounters to caves and the like too if I want to, so there's a lot more space for Pokémon now!

That's a tricky one! I'd have to go with the Piplup line, Chimchar line and Treecko line. I almost always choose the water starter in a new game so it's hard to choose one, but Empoleon's a good mix of strong battler and great design (can't stand it's gen 6 cry though, they ruined it haha). Platinum being my favourite game gives it some bonus points too!
    Hey!
    - I won't do that until the hack is done (maybe someone else will make them if there's enough demand). Adding two more patches means adding another half an hour of my time to every update, as I would have to change the shiny rate, build the ROM, make the patch, then repeat two more times, which just isn't worth it, especially once the standard version is done and that becomes six patches. Drayano could do that for Renegade Platinum because he doesn't continually update his hacks past a certain point, and the shiny rate change in Plat is just a quick hex edit.
    - I haven't planned anything on "paper" so to speak but yeah I've got some ideas for most trainers. Some of them are waiting for the gen 8 DLC moves to get their final teams!
    - Already done! Most gen VI+ features are part of the battle engine upgrade.
    Hey!

    - Nope! I find the AI is too stupid to use those well and they only delay the inevitable, so no more healing items on trainers.
    - Already done!
    - Mr Dollsteak himself is working on animation data for those and Lunos has already prepped the sprites for the Pokemon expansion, so fortunately I don't need to worry about them.

Yeah, I suspect some people are downloading pre-patched versions, and as usual the people making said pre-patched versions are completely clueless, so they're not patched properly (probably used the wrong base ROM/didn't even read the instructions, just like they did with EXWY). For most people MyBoy seems to work without issues.
