There's a whole other story and a different E4 in Kanto region games. The only reason you have to play Kanto in HGSS is that the generally accepted ending point for those games is Red. The fact of the matter is, that those games focus on Johto, and Kanto is more of an afterthought. It takes way less time to get through Kanto in HGSS than it does in any of the Kanto games. If need be I suggest you look into emulating a Kanto game. It's not that hard, and a large number of challengers do it.
