understandable. I really don't like Fleet Foxes that much so I'm not sure why I took such a liking to this album -- maybe the lyrics.

hahaha man I really love that song. the album had a lot of Excellent moments but for some reason I just feel like there's a little something missing. it's still great. but that psyducking song is probably my favorite of the year so far, it's so sweet.

Your top 3 is ^^ A Separation, Margaret and Holy Motors are fascinating and would have made my top 10 of-the-decade-so-far as well. I don't know why people wrote Margaret off. I was enraptured all throughout the 3 hours it played. Fantastic New-Yorkian moral drama. The inclusion of Girl Walk // All Day is a nice surprise, I LOVE the album All Day by Girl Talk and the film (or video vignettes, the way I saw it online hahah) was a great companion-piece to that. Altogether it's a great list; I've watched 13 of the 25 you listed out but I'd push Before Midnight and Inside Llewyn Davis up a tad if I had my druthers.

My top 10, in alphabetical order. It's a very rough sketch and I'd imagine it'll change a lot in the next coming months when I'm catching up with '10, '11 and '12 but I do think they're all masterpieces in their own right, IMO. Genuinely can't fault any of them.

    1. A Separation, Asghar Farhadi (2011)
    2. Before Midnight, Richard Linklater (2013)
    3. Grand Budapest Hotel, The, Wes Anderson (2014)
    4. Holy Motors, Leos Carax (2012)
    5. Immigrant, The, James Gray (2013)
    6. Inside Llewyn Davis, Joel Coen & Ethan Coen (2013)
    7. Margaret, Kenneth Lonergan (2011)
    8. Norte, the End of History, Lav Diaz (2013)
    9. Social Network, The, David Fincher (2010)
    10. Tree of Life, The, Terrence Malick (2011)

Very predictable, I know! I'd imagine I could add more vibrancy to the list if I expanded it, but ah well.

Any film festivals that you're planning to go to anytime soon?

    If you're a bad cinephile, then I'm a greasy pop-corn-eating peasant!

I respect anyone who's ever seen Shoah, let alone in one sitting! Norte might be the longest film I've ever seen to be honest, but it's ironic especially considering it's one of, if not the, shortest film from Lav Diaz's intimidating filmography. His longest film is Evolution of a Filipino Family which is close to 11 hours long! Regardless of it's 4-hour length, it's so ceaselessly gratifying for every minute it plays, and the lavishly-shot, poverty-stricken lands and coastlines of the Phillipines that Diaz creates for his several characters-in-conflict are breathtaking, not to mention the various socio-political issues and ideologies that Diaz presents to its readers. It's something I've never seen before. It's both a lesson in Filipino cultural and political issues and a film about distinctly Dostoevskian characters. PLEASE check it out the next time it plays at a film festival near you, if it does!

You had a film blog? Yo, I would read that every day, only because I can't pick your incredibly cultured brain personally. :P Please do! I love when you point out film performances that I might have otherwise under-appreciated. It makes second viewings much more enriching for me, haha.

A lot of it was out on the public forum, which is part of what was so frustrating to me because I've always been a believer in keeping the drama out of the eyes of everyone else. Like, there are a lot of old threads with people outright arguing with each other over all of it in Q&F if you look back far enough. Mostly the ones where all the quitting and repromoting happened (since all congrats threads used to be in Q&F).

I don't know... I know we talked about it very occasionally but I think I was always on the side of not removing it. I wasn't around when it was actually removed. (Of course now for the life of me I can't figure out why I was against it.) I assume I would remember it if I'd seen it, though. Guess I'll have to climb the ranks again to find it. *DRAMATIC SIGH*

They were both Praetors for a time, but they both had different name colours... or something like that. Do you remember the whole red vs blue thing, during the abbyxsawah time? I think Abby and Andy got into some sort of fight and Andy got promoted to Praetor but then Abby got promoted to her own pink rank (originally the Praetor rank was green, as she'd picked it to be a gender-neutral colour that anyone could enjoy).

I'm iffy on the details around here because I remember getting so fed up with everyone's behaviour that I quit PC for a month or two but I think people on Andy's side kept saying that Abby was sucking up to Kwesi & the admins for her rank and didn't deserve it and she got frustrated so she quit. (There was also an awful lot of homophobia being flung around because of the abbyxsawah thing, and that really factored into the picking sides thing.) The admins decided they couldn't run PC without her (because, to be fair, she WAS PC at the time since she could and did dedicate so much of her time to running it) and asked her to come back but she said she'd only come back if they made her a real admin (so site admin), no BS sub-ranks. They agreed, Andy's side got all huffy so to make amends, they promoted him to yet another new rank (Staff Admin) and claimed it was "equal to site admins, just admins without websites" even though that was BS because Abby was obviously an example of why that wasn't true... and more fights happened and eventually Abby just quit or something. Somewhere in there, Jake was promoted to Praetor and since the green rank didn't really exist anymore and he was the only person with the rank for a while, he picked the ugly yellow instead. :( But after Abby left, no non-site admin ever had the site admin rank. Everyone was stuck as a Staff Admin until site admins were finally nixed and it didn't matter.

Until I came into it after the drama had collapsed on itself, technically no "staff admins" (praetor/abby/staff admin/whatever) ever shared a usergroup with each other so it was a stupid unstable system where everyone kind of had their own random rank. iirc when I was promoted to Praetor Jake tried to convince everyone that I was supposed to get my own usergroup too with my own colour but we all pretty much agreed that didn't make any sense so that's where the invidual colour picking died. :(

Also omg I've started swearing in some of my posts but it's STILL REALLY WEIRD to see outright swear words all over the place on PC. For a split second I was like "holy muk should I report this???? but i don't wanna be a jerk...." This is a hard habit to break.

Of course! I still talk to Abby on twitter. :P

Then after Praetor, there was the Abby-only rank, and then Staff Admin which was the Andy-only rank. And then Jake got a little mad that we weren't continuing the one-admin-per-usergroup thing when I invaded his ugly yellow Praetor rank and then didn't talk to me for months when I was promoted to Staff Admin before him.

I remember aaalll the awkward admin usergroup hiccups.

Apologies for those expecting a Futurama reference, but I can assure you that I have not missed a 'the' in the title of this blog post.

I assume that maybe three people will check this out (those three being shenanigans, maccrash and Rest), but I thought I'd do my part to publicise the brilliant new short animated film World of Tomorrow by Don Hertzfeldt. The brief synopsis is below, although...

So... it's been a while! But it'll be worth it when you see evidence of my visit to London's first cat cafe! Similar to the ones in Japan, Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium opened up on March 1 of this year in London (about 15 minutes from my house)... and it's already fully booked up until June! Deservedly so, as well. Home to about 10 rescue kitties - all adorable - it's a supremely relaxing environment where you can read a good book (on offer included The Art of War by Sun Tzu, Long Day's Journey Into...

A bit of background is necessary for this one, as it's my favourite in this burgeoning 'series' of blog posts and a bit of context goes a long way.

At the end of last month, in and around Thanksgiving, I went to the US for just over a week to visit some friends out there (one in New York who is from there originally, the other in Virginia who's doing an internship at NATO for 6 months). I'm lucky enough to have been to NYC a number...

A pretty interesting article comparing Nintendo's recent fortunes to those of Walt Disney Animation Studios in the early 1980s.

If you like either of those things (whether recent or from the early 1980s), I suggest checking out this article.

Let me know what you think in the comments!
