There's no need to give up yet, you can still get Supporter status if you win it as a competition prize or if another member donates to you, called gift donating.
Looks really funny doesn't it? But in order to have big screenies and picture backgrounds on your profile like mine you need to be a staff member or PC Supporter (members with blue italic names).
You can become a PC Supporter by donating money to the site, but I got it as a gift in my case.
