Hey, just a word of advice, even though I'm not Syd: If you have a question for the Pokemon video games, you can just post them in the Simple Questions thread of the Gen IV or Gen V forums.

Okay, I can see your point about the HMs. I personally always have Flash and Defog when I need it, even after I have the whole area memorized. It's an aesthetic point. Then there's always the loss of accuracy in fog.

Texas is a cool place and all, but I'd like to settle somewhere out west once I'm ready to settle down. :P

...and yes, I teach HMs to my battlers. With the exception of Cut and Rock Smash (which stop being necessary halfway through the game) and Flash and Defog (which aren't even necessary at all if you know what you're doing), all the HMs are fairly powerful moves in their own right. Even Fly and Whirlpool have their tactical uses. :P
