Rofl. And how is your defending of Darkrai any different of me trying to give Giratina a better name? :P

(Just to let you know, I'm SO enjoying our philosophical debate right now. X3)

Alright, so you say there isn't a difference between a legendary or any other Pokemon. Does that mean that there are more Lugias and Ho-ohs somewhere in the world? Oh, and maybe a Magikarp is as unique and powerful as Arceus! I could go on, but I'd get bored of making up examples. Just saying you should watch how you word your thoughts.

And I have to admit my view on Giratina WAS somewhat opinionated... So I went to a few websites that know a thing or two about Pokemon Trivia. Here's a quote I've taken from Giratina's page on Bulbapedia:
Judging by the events in Pokémon Platinum and Giratina and the Sky Warrior, its portrayal in ancient folklore, and its Platinum Pokédex entry, it's assumed that Giratina is a highly aggressive and territorial Pokémon protective of its home. It should be noted that despite the legends depicting it in a more evil light than the others in its trio, Giratina arrived at the Spear Pillar to save the world from Cyrus' attempted apotheosis; though it may have arrived to protect its own world from destruction.
Written after studying the events in both the game "Platinum" and the movie "Giratina and the Sky Warrior", the passage describes Giratina as "highly aggressive and territorial" and says that it's reputation of being a completely wicked Pokemon is mostly portrayed through "ancient folklore". Many animals are also highly aggressive and territorial, but that doesn't make them evil, does it? Does the widely shared opinion of Pitbulls being vicious brutes mean that they need to be hated around the world for just that thought? Just because something acts in a way we don't like, it doesn't mean that they're heartless. It could be that they can't really change the way they act on instincts.

Now onto the moves you have listed... Rage is an example of a move relying on "anger", I agree (although the dictionary does say one of "rage"'s defenitions is "A fit of anger", meaning it's not the actual emotion of anger, but the act of expressing it... Let's just call that a wild card for now), but the others don't really fit in the "emotional category". Uproar is a move where the user basically makes a lot of noise. Almost every emotion can be expressed through shouting, which means multiple emotions can be expressed at one time, much like how friendship is made with different feelings. And moves like Charm or Attract should be categorized with the "Friendship" theme, if not something completely different. Attract causes an enemy Pokemon to fall in love with the user, and Charm uses a lighter form of sexual appeal to lower the foe's defenses. When it comes to the emotional part, "love" is just a stronger, more defined form of "friendship"... I'll let you search up the biological part of it for yourself.

You are right when you say that most moves aren't affected by pure emotion. I doubt you can share your thoughts through a Dynamic Punch or a Fire Blast. Just remember, though, that there are SOME moves that do rely on emotion.

    Your move, Yellow. X3

You know what separates them from Lucario and Togekiss? They're Legendaries! Besides that, they're just misunderstood Pokemon! If you look at their background stories, you'll clearly see that they weren't created evil, but instead experienced many horrors that have haunted them to this day (Mewtwo), or have been secluded for so long that, even when trying to do the right thing, is unable to keep his methods within acceptable standards (Giratina). In both cases, all they needed was a little comfort and guidance.
Mewtwo was the genetic experiment of Team Rocket in trying to clone Mew from a sample of DNA. It finally escaped and swore to never trust humans for as long as he lived. However, the efforts of a young boy make it see that not all humans are bad, and decides to help the boy in his quest.
Giratina sure looks like an evil Pokemon, and the front of his actions suggest even more. However, these details don't mean it's an evil Pokemon at heart! In Platinum, when Cyrus attempts to use the red chain and enslave Dialga and Palkia to recreate the universe as he saw fit, Giratina appears from a portal of Anti-Matter and pulls him into the Alternate World. Its reason for doing so was to stop Cyrus's plan and protect the balance of Time and Space in our world. It may have been a little surprising and extreme, but Giratina was only trying to keep balance between the two worlds! (Besides, wouldn't Darkrai be the Pokemon Satan with his power to trap unfortunate creatures in an eternal nightmare and then feed off of the dark energy that the dreamers emit?)

As for martial arts, I'll have to admit that it has become more of an offense than a defense in recent times, but that's not how it was originally. I doubt the generation that invented Martial Arts truly thought of using this style of fighting just so he could kick the asses of people he just didn't like. They had a lot more dignity back then! Saying that martial arts were invented just to win fights that you started is like saying that Blizzard created World of Warcraft just so the CEO could camp your corpse, dedicate an entire realm for ERP, or hack the account of a player who was paying his company good money to have a good time! I believe strongly that Martial Arts was created with a pure intention in mind... It's just that our generations have corrupted its true purpose to no end.

Also, I wouldn't really classify Return and Frustration as moves that rely on pure emotion. Their power might be determined on how friendly the Pokemon is with its trainer, but "emotion" and "friendship" are two completely different things in my opinion. When I say "emotion", I'm thinking of the base emotions, like "happy", "sad", "mad", etc. Friendship, though, is just a mixture of many emotions with varying intensities. You may be able to choose your own friends, but emotions are a constant that can never be made to mean something else.

... And that's my philosophical view of the day. :P

... Now all I need to do is think of a scenario where Meep and Heart are in mortal danger and somehow includes a type weak to fighting... Well, one answer for five questions, I guess...

Also, I might as well explain why I think what I do about Aura Sphere. If I'm not mistaken, there are only three non-legendary Pokemon that can learn Aura Sphere: Lucario, Togekiss, and Mienfoo/Mienshao. Lucario is a Pokemon that can see a person's aura and determine if they're of a good or bad nature, and he is commonly associated with honor and loyalty. Togekiss is the Jubilee Pokemon, said to manifest the emotion of happiness and never shows itself where negative feelings can be found. As for Mienshao, seeing as how it's the Martial Arts Pokemon and most styles of Martial Arts require intense concentration and gruesome training to master (which means you must have a clear mind that's free of corruption), it's only fitting that it learns Aura Sphere! If I've said everything correctly, then this shows why (imo) Aura Sphere is only useable by only the most innocent and focused Pokemon.

And those are my thoughts on the matter. Retort at will, if you'd like. :P

I don't know if you'll agree, but I feel that Eevee being able to learn Aura Sphere is a much more sensible decision Game Freak could've made over Shadow Ball. I just find it more fitting because Shadow Ball is basically a glob of evil energy, while Aura Sphere is the manifestation of pure concentration and innocence.

EDIT: I bet I know what the answer will be, but with this undeniable logic in front of us, and maybe to spice the RP up... What if Heart one day learns Aura Sphere when she and Meep are in an extremely stressful situation? She won't master it right after using it for the first time (that'd just be OP), so she could unleash an Aura Sphere any time there's a feeling of strong emotion (maybe when she becomes incredibly happy for something Meep accomplished, or when someone other than her master tries to pick her up, for examples). It WOULD make things more awesome, in my opinion, but you have the official say in the end. So what do you think?

I'm usually up for a while, but when my mate comes home from work I let her use it. Mostly because I use it the whole time while she's at work. She'll be home in about 20 minutes or so.

You seem to start posting around 6p my time, which is rather unfortunate since I'm on all day.

About Me

  • About PkMnTrainer Yellow
I'm Marin, a dedicated roleplayer and gamer. I also arrange video game music in various styles (mostly 8 bit, SNES style, or orchestral) as a hobby. I was born with a crippling social-mental disability that pretty much caused a trainwreck of problems the moment I set foot in a public school. Luckily, I've since had the opportunity to get diagnosed and get the help I needed to... compensate for my limitations to some degree. Emphasis on the fact that I was never really cured in any sense of the word.

Needless to say, I have quite the life story that has left me with a lot of... interesting quirks. I won't assume you want to hear about any of that, though. I have a natural fondness for the English language and have been told, and I wouldn't disagree with them, that I seem to have an abnormally high understanding of vocabulary.

If you had to ask me, and I had to put all my modesty aside and answer in an objective manner though, I'd say my greatest strength is probably perseverance.

I consider myself a very social person, and I'm all about love n' hugs and *cough*pwning noobs and stealing their lunch money*Clears throat* stuff like that. (...Some people aren't. o-o;)
