I guess that works. It does, after all, take one's commute and make it take 2.5 times longer than it usually is. (b'-')b

It doesn't really have a name, as far as I'm aware.

Nah. We don't get that as often as one would expect. At least, from my experience. I was talking about the ice occurs while it's still snowing. It may be white, but you can't see it because there's snow all around it and a thin layer of snow on top of it.

Light snow slows our drivers down, but that's because there's usually ice that comes with it that you can't see under the snow. If it didn't turn to ice from constant melting and refreezing due to vehicular traffic, it wouldn't be so bad. (b'-')b

We use road salt as well as grit. Gotta deal with all that ice somehow. And we're always prepared. We've got a lot of dedicated snowplow trucks run by the state and the cities. It's not uncommon to see a pickup truck with a plow mounted on the front, either. The Twin Cities rarely misses a beat during a "minor" snowfall (minor being 1/2-inch to 3-inches). We don't start shutting down unless it's 4 inches deep or more, and even then, it's pretty rare.

We get yearly flooding from our snow-melt run-off. Two of the low-lying crossings of a river were closed for 3 weeks because of this flooding.

Some of our areas are prone to flash flooding, but that's mostly in the hills of the southeast. Though the three major rivers have all had some major floods in recent years.

Our only rainy season is usually Spring. We get thunderstorms for our summer and fall precipitation. And then various snowstorms in the winter. (b'-')b
