Yeah, it's unlikely that mods will check threads without them being reported or linked to them. Do you mind telling him this for future reference?

Here's what I recommend doing with AdvanceMap:

    1. Open up the ini folder
    2. Click on "AdvanceMap"
    3. Scroll down to where it says "[Version:BPE]"
    4. Change "SuchByte=$00" into "SuchByte=$FF"
    5. Change "SuchBeginn=$6B0000" into "SuchBeginn=$E3CF64"

That would make safe to use automatic repointing in Emerald.

The reason why there's the Kanto badges found in the rom is because when you link up with FR/LG on Emerald, while you're in the trade room, you're able to check the other person's trainer card. See, I have a Link Cable, and back in the day me and my brother traded/battled frequently between our Pokemon games. In Emerald, if you go into the Link room with a FR/LG game, then the you can actually see R/S/E styled sprites of the FR/LG people (the player overworld in my hack is NOT custom). If you check their trainer card, it shows the Kanto badges.

Well, I haven't actually done much work on the actual Saga Adventure rom other than change a few palettes and TileMolester stuff, but right now I'm working on secondary frames to the FR/LG sprites. I won't be inserting them in a LONG time, since I'm worried about free space, but I plan on Saga Adventure using the FR/LG sprites as the 1st frame, and then new sprites as second frames. Here's what I've got so far:

Though the only sprites I've worked on are Pokemon in FR/LG that were posed similarly to their R/S sprites (except for Ivysaur, that's the only custom one I've got so far). I'll eventually do all FR/LG sprites. Lucky for me, some Kanto Pokemon in FR/LG have the exact same sprite they do in R/S, so I can leave those Pokemon (like Goldeen and Vaporeon) exactly the same as Emerald.

Actually, I believe all GBA Pokemon games use FF as free space. Or another theory, 00 is "temporary" free space while FF is completely unused data.

And no, Emerald does NOT use FireRed as a base. That's all Bulbapedia bulls#1t. I seriously doubt that GameFreak bothered re-mapping and re-scripting the entire thing. Otherwise, Emerald would have had animated FR/LG sprites for Kanto Pokemon, and it would have used FR/LG's dual text boxes, which it didn't. Even though some features were ported over from FireRed such as Berry Crushing and Union Rooms, I believe that Emerald uses FireRed as a base.

However, I think it's pretty obvious that HG/SS is built off of Platinum, after all, there's plenty of Platinum leftovers. Emerald doesn't have any FR/LG left overs, because it probably used R/S as a base. (though what's interesting is how Emerald contains the entire FR/LG soundtrack).

EDIT: lol, there's kinda no point for Team Emerald anymore.

    Hey buddy!,

PC ate my freakin message yesterday... It was detailed, yet succinct. Poetic, but meaningful. Inquisitive, but not overly intrusive... Okay it wasn't that special lol. But it was like 3 paragraphs:/

Anyhoo- I am just about to head off to school. I'm gonna hop on tonight, and I will actually address your message properly:D But one thing I have to blurt out- why was he checking out guys while he was drunk?! Bahaha

Well, recently I asked HackMew what he thought about Emerald's sound issues, and now after hearing his theory, I think AdvanceMap may be one of the problems. Generally, his theory was that AdvanceMap repoints things to what appears to be free space, even though it actually isn't. This is probably why you mentioned that things can also go corrupt with unLZ, since unLZ requires repointing, and so when we look for free space we don't actually know.

However, if you ever looked at an Emerald rom in a hex editor, you'll notice that near the end all of the 00's suddenly turn into FF's. My other theory is that Emerald doesn't actually use 00's as free space, and the only REAL free space that Emerald has is the FFs near the end (starting at 0xE3CF64, from that offset until the end of the rom is just a bunch of FFs).

EDIT: I know this may sound crazy, but try and repoint something in unLZ that you're completely sure that it will corrupt the sound. Then take a clean Emerald rom, and do exactly what you did earlier, but repoint it to an offset above 0xE3CF64.

EDIT: This is what I discovered:
First, I took a patch of my hack, and renamed "OLDALE TOWN" to "VIRIDIAN CITY". I know 100% sure that it will corrupt the sound more, and then I got a copy of my hack, and renamed OLDALE again, except I manually chose what offset. The sound didn't corrupt! So I guess it's a matter of knowing what's free space and what's not.

    Heyyyy bro!,

No worries, I've been neck deep in school myself (had 16 pages of homework last week lol). Pretty much the same ole same ole; school, work, working out, and trying to catch em' all (women). Haha.

I met this guy that is freakin shred-tastic! He can blaze the frets way faster than me! I think we are going to start jamming together. I'm pretty stoked to play with a seemingly talented, like minded musician.

But how spins the planet of kid dialkia? Did the exams fare well? Any new craic!?

I'll probably study information systems (computer networking-type stuff).
Question: When I insert the new tileset (I'm using either palette 10 or 11, depending on which attempt we're discussing), it warps all of the other palettes. What am I doing wrong there?

Weeeelllll, attempts 2 through 12 just blew up too. I'm going to script for awhile, regain some measure of sanity, and then return to the attempt.

So, if you like electronic dancey music, check this link out:

I've had it as my usertitle for quite a while now, but.. well, I could do with using my blog a bit more often, haha.

That's my soundcloud. I've been playing music (piano) since I was about... five? Five. And for about four years now, I've been producing music electronically. I can play a bit of guitar/ukulele too, but...

I'm actually quite suckish at using my blog, but... I really don't care. I rarely have anything interesting to post but this is something I HAVE to write down somewhere, because it's just too weird.

So in the late 80s, my parents moved from Ireland to Canada. My siblings and I were born there, and we lived there til I finished Senior Kindergarten at age 5. We then moved back to Ireland, where we lived in the sorta suburbs. I went to school there for about two and a half years before...

Here I am with a slightly more controversial blog post. Definitely in comparison to my previous ones anyway, which have all pretty much been little notes about my life.

Anyway, with the death of Apple dude Steve Jobs a few weeks ago, and now with the recent passing of world-reknowned (have no idea if that's the correct way to say it) singer Whitney Housten at the age of 48, it's got me thinking; when it comes to celebrity deaths, there's something that really, really annoys me....

So, it's been a little while since I last posted in this little blog, and... well, I still don't really have that much interesting things to say, but oh well :P

So if it hasn't become clear by this stage, I'm a Scrubs fanatic. (How one could be anything but is totally beyond me). Most people who know me will also know that I'm quite into music in general. And so, when you cross these two fantastic things, you get...

(In case the first wasn't enough to make you notice, my title's will all start in "My", like Scrubs episodes).

So yeah, yesterday I met up with my buddy DrFuji, who came to Ireland all the way from Upside-downia :) We had a pretty awesome day, which consisted of much walking around, then sitting down, then walking around some more. It was odd to talk about the things we usually talk about, but in person :P

So a fair bit happened during the day. We got some food...
