My mom points out you can go from Montjuïc to the natural reserve of Montserrat via a cable car, which we couldn't do because of a massive storm when we were there!

MMMMM. I've been to Barcelona three times (one for a week, one for a job interview, one as a job trip), so I have a tiny bit of an idea. One, La Rambla, going from Plaça Catalunya to the sea, very touristy zone (if you go next weekend, you might find lots of Barcelona fans celebrating the League title at the Canaletas fountain -which actually is a normal street drinking fountain-). Going down the avenue, you'll find the Boquería market, which is a delightful place to visit (and perhaps buy something, if anything a drink in one of the pubs inside). Going from there through Carrer Ferrán, you can find Plaça Sant Jaume nearby, with the Cathedral, the City Council and the Generalitat building. And if you keep walking to the East, there is the old city, where you can find the Picasso Museum and the Santa María del Mar Church, which is a delight to see.

There is also the Palau de la Música and the Spanish Village, which is a 20's pocket-version of Spain, including streets and monuments lifted from elsewhere in the country, so tourists could see the entire thing just with a single visit to Barcelona. Also the Columbus statue at the end of the Rambla (it has an elevator inside, so you can go to the top) and the former bullring, which is now a shopping centre- I think that one was in Plaça de Espanya. If you feel like walking through green areas, there is also Montjuïc, featuring a former castle, and the Parc de la Ciutadella, with a zoo and the Catalan Parliament (don't feed the MPs!).

And, of course, everything Gaudí: Parc Güell, Sagrada Familia, Casa Battló, La Pedrera... you can't miss those.

I saw Right Now, Wrong Then at your recommendation... that scene at the end outside the theater... it felt like I was being hugged by a thousand angels! What a tender film with all its lingering takes, chilling quietness, harrowing what-ifs, lost prospects. I had Before Sunset callbacks of love-found-and-lost, which is in no way a bad thing. And Kim Min-hee's performance is so surprisingly bluff, disguising a pent-up fury and sadness under a superficial softness. Might be my second or third favorite Hong feature, and by far his most romantic!

Sorry I haven't been around, been busy with my course! How you been?

Yeah man, the good films are the ones that force you to reassert and restructure your views as you grow up. As an aficionado cinematographer, Persona is such a film to me. It's just so technically complex in its images.

Need to watch Creed, I like the Rocky films but never took them too seriously after the third. Still I'm seeing this one has received lot of love.

Yo, even if you can't get Adri and Will to join, if you have the time why don't you just come down to Brighton? It's been so long.

Otherwise I'm visiting you in London in a few months, once I've saved the moneyz. Currently facing eviction which is a pain in the wallet.

Also where's the best place to contact you? FB? Twitter?

    er-hem. Anyway

It's very much between Dr. Strangelove (which I've a new-found enjoyment for lately) and 2001 for me. An almost impossible call. On one hand, I was majorly put off by Dr. Strangelove's ending and felt like the character himself wasn't even remotely deserving of the film; on the other, 2001 is full of stuff that doesn't, and probably won't ever, make any sense and a huge amount of that film could probably have been cut out without making any real difference to the overall feeling of it. But that's true for a lot of Kubrick films, I guess. They're both really brilliant, though - I guess I'd give the edge to Dr. Strangelove very slightly. Thing is that they're so dramatically different to each other that it's hard to compare them, but I feel like Strangelove is the more entertaining of the two - although, that's owing largely to its more watchable length and lower fat (as if that's a term, haha) than 2001.

Apologies for those expecting a Futurama reference, but I can assure you that I have not missed a 'the' in the title of this blog post.

I assume that maybe three people will check this out (those three being shenanigans, maccrash and Rest), but I thought I'd do my part to publicise the brilliant new short animated film World of Tomorrow by Don Hertzfeldt. The brief synopsis is below, although it's...

So... it's been a while! But it'll be worth it when you see evidence of my visit to London's first cat cafe! Similar to the ones in Japan, Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium opened up on March 1 of this year in London (about 15 minutes from my house)... and it's already fully booked up until June! Deservedly so, as well. Home to about 10 rescue kitties - all adorable - it's a supremely relaxing environment where you can read a good book (on offer included The Art of War by Sun Tzu, Long Day's Journey Into...

A bit of background is necessary for this one, as it's my favourite in this burgeoning 'series' of blog posts and a bit of context goes a long way.

At the end of last month, in and around Thanksgiving, I went to the US for just over a week to visit some friends out there (one in New York who is from there originally, the other in Virginia who's doing an internship at NATO for 6 months). I'm lucky enough to have been to NYC a number of...

A pretty interesting article comparing Nintendo's recent fortunes to those of Walt Disney Animation Studios in the early 1980s.

If you like either of those things (whether recent or from the early 1980s), I suggest checking out this article.

Let me know what you think in the comments!

(I haven't totally left this place forever, just yet. :D)
