    Funny thing.

Seems like I'm going to go for a recent Core i5 that's not ULV, then.

This is gonna get interesting - a laptop can be easily carried as carry-on luggage, while a mini desktop or HTPC might be stretching it. Individual components, though, should be a sure-fire as long as there's not too much of them.

Time to head out and looks for deals in person again.

I still think that WEI can be a bit handy when you can't access the usual methods of testing... or when you're using a showroom computer.

When it comes to OpenGL performance, has AMD always had the advantage over NVIDIA, and especially over Intel?

One of the things I've noticed with my laptop is that video transcodes seem to take forever.

I think I'm going for mixed usage here, with emphasis on gaming performance at 720p (yes) and transcodes.

If I go for Intel, it'd mean better CPU performance for the most part as long as I have something with at least 4 threads, but I'd also need to shell out for a real graphics card.

Comparing WEI scores, anything is going to be an upgrade for the CPU anyway.

    Man, this is tough.

I think I can get away with a compact desktop. Not full towers (nowhere to put) - Slim cases on horizontal or HTPCs only.

If I go desktop, though, I will need to either relocate the wireless router for it to be within easy reach of an Ethernet cable or pay extra for Wi-Fi. Bluetooth might be a consideration, too.

Get a Core i5 laptop, a Core i7 laptop, or just fudge it and assemble a Trinity APU micro-ATX desktop?

    It's Jolteeeeeeeeeeooooooooon timeeeeeeeee

Good thing I didn't buy that Orochi now.

It got refreshed with better specs.

Also, I've seen it in person, and it seems like it'll be a good fit.

So I just tried out Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the free weekend.

I really need to get a new laptop. But, something strange happened: despite the game running at 10 fps during intense firefights, it's still somehow playable.

Mum called. Someone back home wants it.

Thank goodness for that. Now I only have to think about the next device.

Windows 7 laptop, Windows 8 laptop, or HDD-based Windows 8 convertible? (Tablets are out of the question as there won't be enough horsepower or storage)

Accelerated scroll wheel scrolling is AWESOME on web pages.

The Roccat's going to take me quite a while to get to if subway maps are of any indication. I think I'll take advantage of the break next week - entire week off = fun!

    Jolteon or Zorua?

Man, a long subway ride? Still better than getting one online.

Just remember to take into account shipping for things that they don't sell here.

How slow is slow? If you never notice the latency, you will never notice it. Then again, you've been using a wired gaming mouse for a long time, eh?

Or maybe I'll just stick with this mouse for a long time...

Maybe I'll consider it again after playing games on the laptop.

Browsing the web, searching for reviews and hands-ons... search engines are very handy, no? Sometimes I have to take into account local availability so that the shipping cost is $0 since I can just walk in and buy it. Hehehe. Instant gratification, too.

In the meantime, I seem to got more than what I've bargained for. Gonna get used to accelerated AND natural scrolling now... Three buttons isn't good enough for any macros, though, so I think a proper gaming mouse is needed for them.

Thank goodness I always use a backpack when I travel with my laptop. I don't like carrying cases at all. The Air feels like it wasn't there in the first place, but I wonder what would it be like if it were a standard laptop.

Speaking of OS X, the Air is now again a dual-boot machine, just like before. OS X and Windows living side-by-side, but seeing as I don't see much use for OS X (not with the software required to use, making me staying in Windows almost all the time), I think I bought something I didn't really need.

Hmm... I think I'll spend the next week trying out gaming mice! (The purchase will come laaaaaaaaaater.)

Also, I have taken a good look at the Orochi, and it's just not tacky enough with the matte option. There's a reason why I'm thinking of that...

(I think I'll keep the Wedge Mobile for the tablet and when the laptop lid is closed.)

The Roccat looks nice, too, but yet another USB dongle-based wireless mouse? I've got enough ports in use already! If my polling rate and response time is compromised, so be it. Not that it quite matters when you can wire it if you really need it, and I don't think I need that much polling while out...

I think it's been a while since the last time I've used a full-sized computer mouse. Over half a year, perhaps?

Microsoft Arc Touch? Microsoft Wedge Touch? Razer Orochi?

(Notice anything that they all share?)

    (Oh no, not again...)

I think I'll wait for a while, save up, and splurge on the Orochi when the time comes. In the meantime, to replace my broken wireless mouse, I'm using a cheap $15 old-school wired mouse that at least fits my hands. Something Microsoft. (Any cheaper, and I'd looking at totally unsafe shapes from a no-name brand)

    I think sometimes habits stick.

I think I need to get some folders and racks to get my desk and stuff organized at this rate.

Is a gaming mice that looks like regular office mice an oxymoron?

I've seen the Razer Orochi gaming mice, and to be honest, it ticks almost every point in my checklist, aside from "not looking tacky in class besides a Mac".

Have you ever had buyer's remorse for any reason in the past? I've recently begun to think, maybe I could trade in this ultraportable and go standard laptop lately. Hmm... Decisions, decisions. Sure, it'll be more powerful and on the cheap, but I won't be able to hold it OK-ish with just one hand... And fan noise... Yeah, a bigger hard disk drive, but...

Wait a second, since I am using the MacBook Air as a Windows machine anyway... Maybe I should start Lion Recovery, (I've already backed up everything I need on the laptop), wipe everything and restore the Mac to factory OS and settings. I think there might be a beefier machine, seeing as I overestimated my own need for portability.

This might be the shortest stint I have ever had with a laptop, but there's always on concern for me with regards to laptop trackpads. The Air's trackpad is nice indeed, but I can't shake off the feeling that I'm basically using 2011 hardware today, due to my incredibly poor purchasing timing.

I think I'll be hauling my MacBook Air along with charging cables and the brick to shops for appraisal.

Yes, because Melbourne is clearly superior to Sydney and demands greater respect.

Stilll on the way home from the shops, but the connection tour was great.

I met up with Eon-Rider there and we took on the various mini games that were part of the MotionPlus series. I've got to admit, the games were mostly great and intuitive, although the Virtua Tennis was really clumsy. Quite literally, the players occasionally trip over without warning. Maybe that was just me - Eon-Rider thrashed me. XD

I have to say the best games were the Fencing, which was a damn...

Okay, I want to start making blogs again, so Imma start with a Platinum Log, as it's holidays and nothing interesting is happening :D.

Beginning - Load from save in Canalave Gym

I entered the battle with Byron expecting it to be a tough battle, so I had my Magmortar sitting in the wings to roast his Steel Pokemon.

Well I went to a friend's the other morning, so I wasn't online yesterday.
Pretty awesome time, though. We (there were four of us) sat in a boat on their dam, for ages with coke and chips. We did a few other crazy things, like jumping of the roof into the pool and playing with fireworks.

Also watched a few movies: Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express, Boogeyman 2 (lol, it's pathetic, considering it's supposed to be horror.)
Yeah, it was all good.

Uh, that was just to get your attention. If it did, post a comment saying so. :D

Um, it's raining, which is good - it keeps the weather cooler. (It was ~40% Yesterday.) Um, boring day at home. Yeah.

I might be going to a friend's place tomorrow, so that'll be interesting, although I won't be here. Hmmm. I might actually get a name change to my real name, if only it wasn't already taken by some noob with 3 posts and no activity since 2004.

Hmmm... I've achieved...
