Yep, I am! NYC-goer. But wow, really...? That is absolute suck. o_O; I want to get an n3DS before I buy new 3DS games though since I know I won't play them otherwise. Gotta wait longer. =( Have quite a bit saved from working but I just can't get myself to spend $200 at once. lol
Probably; I didn't even look. I downloaded the free theme for my Vita and that was it; I never go after Japanese voices. Voice actors can make or break a dub, I'd be far more concerned about those too. If it's got Yuri Lowenthal in it, it's dead to me. Utterly. I actually tend to prefer dubbed voice acting though, as Japanese voices all sound the same to me. Excluding Norio Wakamoto, anyway. That man is in a class all by himself; he's the Crispin Freeman of Japan. xD
You're not looking hard enough! Vita is the home of JRPGs; the 3DS doesn't even hold a candle to it~
Well, the order of play is Origins -> II -> Inquisition, and the story flows from one game to the next if you play the DLC (Anders, a major character in DA2, is introduced in Awakening, and DA2's DLC sets up the villain for Inquisition) but I'd actually say II might be the best game to start with, because it's ridiculously easy. It's practically a hack and slash, there is no challenge to it whatsoever. Origins isn't exactly difficult, but the combat can take some getting used to, and Inquisition has a fairly open world and blends the two combat systems together, so it's definitely best left for last once you've decided what play style (real time, or slower, meticulous move-by-move planning) is best for you. Origins has the best story, though; DA2's feels a little disjointed since it's split into three uneven acts, and Inquisition's is, frankly, a load of tired bollocks; I've read smutty fanfiction with more consistency. Origins looks and feels like a classic swords n' sorcery tabletop RPG; it oozes charm. I'd say Origins is the best in terms of quality, II is the easiest, and Inquisition combines the two playstyles and doubles the world size, making it a mixed bag that will sometimes delight and sometimes infuriate. All three of them have awful load times, though.
Probably...maybe something to do with bears; I hear Canada has lots of bears. French is pretty prominent in Canada as well, I think. You'd have a field day with my accent, haha. In one way or another. I think people not native to the UK either adore or despise the British accent. My voice is exceptionally dry and dull - much like me as a person - so it'd probably annoy everyone who listened to it. On that basis alone was I sorely tempted to do it. But honestly I couldn't tell much of a difference between the Canadians and the North Americans in the thread. xD
That's probably why they're so popular on these boards; it's like a Pokemon SRPG with humans in place of monsters. It's better than Pokemon Conquest I suppose - my GOD was that game awful! - but not by leaps and bounds. Hell, the character designs all look like Sengoku Musou rejects as it is...
I own every mothership Pokemon excluding Blue, Gold, and White 2, but I have a mother who plays video games, so I have an excuse. I'll wind up getting all three versions of Fates because she'll want to play all of them, I suspect. Whether or not I'll have the patience for that is another matter entirely. I'll need to buy a second copy of Super Mystery Dungeon next month, too. Their business model is actually quite convenient for me because of this, but that doesn't make it any less of a ripoff, haha.
Well, in that case, if you're curious...
Spoiler:
Fire Emblem IS basic; that's one of my biggest criticisms of it. It isn't just Awakening, it's all of them. As a series, it doesn't set itself apart in any noticeable way, and this idea that it's the pinnacle of SRPGs...I can't help but cringe. It's bottom-of-the-barrel in the gameplay department, as it does nothing to expand the genre or set itself apart from any of the other cookie-cutters out there. It lacks any sort of soul or identity that it can call its own; it's like Eternal Sonata, or Ni No Kuni - all the ingredients for a great game are there, but it's like someone spat into the mixing bowl, or left the mixture in the oven for too long so it's now rock solid and birds would probably attack you if you tried to feed it to them. The combat isn't exceptional, unique, or even challenging. The characters are faceless and the sheer size of the cast means that they never get any proper development unless you go through irritatingly convoluted placement methods in-battle - which is often highly inconvenient - to drag it out of them. I shouldn't have to dig for character development; that's just bad design. If it's there but not readily available, it might as well not be there at all. The soundtrack is mediocre to awful; it's like it was put together by Masashi Hamauzu in his sleep. The plot and character dialogue are both on-par with Urobutcher's scripts; hell, I was more entranced by Fate/Zero than I was Awakening's terrible dialogue and plot. You're supposed to weave exposition into the narrative, not leave the bloody audience to put two-and-two together as best they can or hand them a glossary and let them read up in their own time. There is never a decent villain either, and that is a huge, HUGE crime for a kind of RPG. That should warrant capital punishment. Villains drive the story forward. No villain, no drive. Things just meander from one to another with no cause and effect. Stuff happened, then some other stuff happened, the end. Fire Emblem can never decide if it wants to world build or character build, and the result is that it half-arses both; you get a vaguely outlined world at war with a few important but faceless characters doing something about it. Where's the drama? The emotion? It's like a badly written play...or a well-written play transcribed by monkeys - or worse, teenage interns given creative license, or the Bandai Namco team responsible for Hollow Fragment's original translation - and then given to a group of C-list actors. Like the Harry Potter films.
If it focused on one or the other, I'd be totally fine with it...or at least more forgiving. I mean, Tactics Ogre has a godawful cast, but the world is so well put together it doesn't matter; you're drawn into the conflict, and the characters represent ideals and points of view more than individual personalities. Disgaea may as well not have a story at all, but it focuses on its cast and does its best to make them endearing; it doesn't always work, but it's clear where the focus is. They often have cliche, anime personalities you can find anywhere else, but they have personalities. Fire Emblem has no focus. It tries to do everything and buggers up everything as a consequence. It plays it so safe it's boring as hell; rather than try and make some memorable, it settles for this "good enough" bullcrap that is the hallmark of Nintendo titles these days and doesn't make itself stand out. It's the very definition of mediocrity. That's not necessarily a negative - mediocrity is better than atrocity - but it's NOT a cause for praise.
This is why I liked Sacred Stones. It established itself right from the beginning as a character-driven SRPG: it was never about the world, it was about two siblings who had been separated just trying to find each other and find out what the hell had gone wrong, and then trying to save their friend. The characters they met along the way were inconsequential; it was all about Eirika and Ephraim, and the game made no bones about it. It didn't bog itself down in worldbuilding or trying to pretend like everyone mattered, it played to its strengths and rolled with it, and I enjoyed it quite a bit at the time. Awakening tried to go every which way and in the end it was a half-arsed mess, made even worse by the self-insert protagonist (those are either done very well or very poorly, and Awakening's was definitely in the latter category) and the way it tried to make every character matter and in the end made them all a half-developed mess that pushed the story off on wild tangents that made it a real chore to sift through. Shadow Dragon was even worse. I don't even want to think about Radiant Dawn. Sacred Stones was a one-off that got it right and, whilst it was still very basic, it had that one thing that set it apart and made it an enjoyable game.
I will give credit where credit is due, though: despite the recycled Sengoku Musou designs, Awakening in particular WAS very well presented. The cutscenes lacked any real context, but it didn't feel like a budget title. It was like the sequel to a movie I missed - I'm sure there was supposed to be context and emotion, but they just forgot to add it in. It was also ideal for beginners, because the gameplay was as basic as basic could be. No additional systems to worry about, no learning curve, no need for anything other than basic tutorials of how SRPGs work. It was a great introductory title to the genre, but for anyone even passingly familiar with how to play them, there was nothing there.
I don't know how it stacks up in battle now either; I lost track of competitive battling after Gen IV. But it still looks cool. xD
I go by aesthetic appeal more than anything else, since there won't be any hugely negative repercussions from my choice now like there was when I was younger, I just pick whatever. My mother usually picks the grass starter, though.
Nuzlocke on a Gen I title could be interesting, although it'd be horrendously slow and tedious now, since I'm guessing the games have aged pretty badly...guess we'll find out next month, aha. I don't plan on Nuzlocking it though; I've never done anything like that. Have you attempted many challenges in the past, then?
More available Pokemon, perhaps? The special episodes were quite nice as well, and they did seem to put a teensy bit more effort into the characters...just not your story as a player. It was definitely a bigger game, but bigger isn't always better.
Gaming slump? I typically have those once I've finished something I've been immersed in for a long time; things look interesting, but not interesting enough to hold my interest. Just gotta find a game that draws you in and keeps you hooked.
Nuzlockes seem fun.. and I'd like to try it whenever I finish with my unevolved runs in both HeartGold and X. It'll probably prepare me for the hell that are nuzlockes since unevolved runs tend to be so much harder. Still stuck on Clair in HG with my lame team of Natu, Phanpy, Cyndaquil, Mareep, Bellsprout, and Poliwag. >.< how2beat
Omg! Don't remind me. Soo excited about Fates.. that stupid huge release gap. Urgh.
Ohhh, the pre-localisation rage. Regardless of what it is, it never fails to make me giggle a bit. I realise people have different standards, but I really do think a lot of people have their wires crossed. People have forgotten what it was like to never get any of these games at all, it seems. If people don't want to support it, that's fair enough, but the reasons cited for not doing so are sometimes so petty it's beyond belief...the only thing that annoys me is the whole dual audio thing. People recently have been whining about dual audio being included as free DLC rather than part of the game - Neptunia Re;Birth 3 and Atelier Escha & Logy Plus on Vita being two recent examples - and it's been getting on my nerves. I cannot stand people who think that Japanese voices in games are a god-given right and should take precedence over a dubbed voice track. But otherwise...yeah, it's a laugh. xD
It's best to just buy one 64GB memory card and get it over with I think, especially with more titles coming out as digital only. If you don't buy much, it'd last you for years and years. All the stuff I've bought on the Vita since launch combined doesn't fill up my 64GB...yet. It has 11GB free, so I'm going to have to transfer some things off and onto my smaller memory cards in the near future. But that's 16 digital games, plus small save file data for physical ones, so yeah.
Yeah, Bioware has always been something of an acquired taste, even back in the days of Baldur's Gate where it wasn't receiving *quite* as much attention outside of its fandom. Borderlands is great because you can play solo or with others and still have a pretty good time...mostly. I'll never forgive them for the Underdome DLC and the 30 hours it took me to get all the trophies for it. I still need to finish the Pre-Sequel, actually. I frequently forget Canada exists, yes. It's like...the Wales of the United Kingdom. I frequently forget that exists too. xD
It's probably only seen as more polite because it doesn't make as much noise when it doesn't get its own way or sensationalise things in the media quite so much =P
Not really that many differences, when you take into account the sub-genre differences...from what I understand there are different characters in the two versions, so in a way it's EXACTLY like Pokemon, with the third one released later being the equivalent of a third Pokemon version; Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, etc. It's a very cheap way of expanding DLC and getting more money out of it, because it compels you to buy both versions for a "complete" experience. I guess we've all gotten used to it by now, and really, it could be worse - it could all be overpriced episodic map packs. Nintendo might be bad at this, but they're not Square Enix, aha. Not yet, anyway.
I don't like Fire Emblem at all though, so that wouldn't count as a franchise I like, haha. Criticisms for things I like isn't difficult for me though. I like a lot of niche trash with very limited appeal, or glaring flaws I'm willing to overlook because I get a laugh out of it. Unlike a lot of people, I harbour no delusions that what I play is perfect, or even very good sometimes, objectively speaking. I just don't get hung up over the flaws if what I like about it is good enough to distract me. I play to have fun after all, not engage in verbal sparring matches with strangers on the internet. Things I don't like that I should probably like - Fire Emblem Awakening, Dungeon Travelers 2, Ni No Kuni, Tales of the Abyss, etc - just didn't have enough that I liked to stop me from noticing what was crap about it.
Sarcasm? Who's being sarcastic? Pfff. In this day and age, with the quality of things being what it is, it's difficult NOT to write satire when you have an opinion about something. xD
Well, Charizard certainly LOOKED a lot stronger than Venusaur or Blastoise, plus the Base 1 card was ridiculously powerful. All these things contributed towards the ill-advised choice of nine-year-old me. xD
I went with Torchic in Ruby, Mudkip in Sapphire, and Treecko in Emerald, although that wasn't a colour scheme choice but more a design one...I do not like Sceptile at all. I did pick Turtwig over Chimchar in Platinum, but only because I loathe monkeys...and Torterra is awesome in every sense of the word. Great design, great name, great typing, great everything. I think I might have picked Snivy in Black 2 due to lack of choice - Tepig and Oshawott were both hideous, after all. I can't really remember what I did for Black. xD
A lot of the time I run all three starters in my first file of a new gen, though - I like seeing what they all have to offer before I choose one specifically in my second playthrough in the other version. You can bet I'll be running Bulbasaur in Red or Blue if/when I play them later on this year, though. Are you getting Red, Blue or Yellow, by any chance? I kinda hoped we'd get Green...I remember in Primary School a friend of mine had a pirated copy of Green; we all loved it. xD
Well, being better than Gates to Infinity isn't insanely difficult, haha. Honestly, I preferred Blue Rescue Team to Explorers of Sky though. The story resonated a little more with me, plus the Friend Areas made it feel more like I was getting team mates, not just boxing them off into oblivion in the Chimecho Assembley. The difference in gameplay was minimal, so the small aesthetic things like that were deciding factors in that case. I do think about replaying Explorers of Sky every now and then, though. Maybe after SMD.
If you're getting distracted from games, they're obviously not good enough to hold your attention! A good game sucks you in and refuses to let you breathe, even for a second!

I suspect it'll be April 15th, the same day you get Bravely Second. I also expect we'll get all three versions simultaneously, rather than having to wait for the third scenario. But I guess we'll see...makes little difference to me either way, haha. Well, my mother has asked me a couple of times when it's coming out, but I said I'd tell her when I knew, soooo...eh. She's more excited for the 3DS Dragon Quest titles and Pokemon Yellow anyway. xD
It's ridiculous how you can't use SD cards for storage the same way you can for a Wii or a DS without a USB with a port for one, really; it worked alright for the Wii. But then, all current gen consoles have storage issues...the PS4 and Xbone are too small, the N3DS uses ridiculously small and irritating micro SD cards you can only replace by screwing the back off, the Vita's cost a fortune, and the Wii U just requires an annoying amount of workaround. I miss the days you could just put a game in and play it straight off the game cart...
Those kinds of FPS are something of an acquired taste, and very sociable - unless you're really into them, they're not going to be much fun for you. Personally, I'd look more for games that have shooting elements to them like Mass Effect, or more single-player experiences like Borderlands or Metroid Prime. Played one online multiplayer shooter, played them all.
All stereotypes have at least some basis of truth to them, though...otherwise they would never have come about, haha. Honestly, I don't differentiate between Canada and the rest of North America, so I'm even worse. xD
Pfft. The only reason the new Fire Emblem was split into two games was for the profit. Profit profit profit. Nintendo haven't had much third party support at all this generation, and they need to milk popular things for all they're worth. Fire Emblem is currently popular. It's exactly the same sort of thing as Pokemon. /cynical bastard
The only additional criticism I have of Radiant Dawn on top of all the other criticisms I have of Fire Emblem as a series in general (going to assume you're not interested in those. xD) is that it feels stupidly low budget for a Nintendo title. Like, ridiculously low budget. I'm used to recycled assets, but those assets tend to have some modicum of quality to them, or there are other things to draw your attention away from them. Radiant Dawn could have run on the DS; hell, Shadow Dragon was of better quality, and that looked and felt positively antique. Radiant Dawn looked and played like something you'd find in a PC bargain bin; one of those generic games with ridiculously long titles high street retailers stock for some obscene reason. The kind of game that is ignored by both mainstream media and the online gaming community at large because it's an embarrassment to the media. They didn't so much as run out of steam as they did stall, break down, and then explode in a fiery disaster.
Actually, my first starter was Charmander, and I don't think I've ever picked the grass starter for my first run through of a new generation...I almost did with Diamond, but Piplup was painfully adorable. I didn't want to pick Bulbasaur because Charizard was the popular one and I was incensed by the idea that I needed to pick the one that was for beginners, because of course I was already a Pokemon Master before I'd even touched a game...god, did I regret it before I was done, haha. Dare I ask what prompted you to think that, though? I'm curious. xD
On the subject of Pokemon...would you say Super Mystery Dungeon is a return to form? I've been keeping myself deliberately isolated from anything related to it since I discovered it was being delayed for no decent reason, but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it~
ikr haha there was alot but im glad and ive loved splatfests haha that game is so enjoyable.
HAha id love to anytime im free which will be ehhh who knows when but i do get a break from school coming up so that would be ideal :D

Duuuuuuuuuuuuude its been so long!
Haha ive been busy and well busy and reading alot haha oh and playing splatoon (of coarse) im actually level 37 now so yay happy although i only play an hour or so a week
Wbu its been awhile howve you been?
Omg ikr i cant wait! Fates is just oh so close but i think i can hold out for one more month although i need to change my theme to fates now like seriously
Operation Rainfall. Only for every single release date. I've already seen some people rattataing about the US release date for Bravely Second, which isn't that far off, considering we're having to wait longer for Super Mystery Dungeon and don't even have an FE release date yet. This game of swapsies with release dates is irritating as hell.
Really? Wow. I...kinda lost count of how many games I bought, but it was probably at least twice that amount, haha. Probably three times that amount if I'm honest about it. I'll be getting more than that before March is out this year! Well, if you want *everything* for XCX you need about 20GB of free space. USB devices will work, SD cards will not. Unless you get one of those awesome USB sticks with an SD card slot in it. Which is the most cost effective way of doing it, in my opinion - big SD cards are very cheap, big USB devices are not, and hooking up an external HD device to the Wii U is a bloody nuisance. I've been using my 32GB SD card in a USB and I've not had any issues with it thus far. But it did take me a bit of research to find out if it'd work or not; it is all very convoluted. Typical Nintendo.
Yeah, I suppose Destiny is the spiritual successor to Halo, of sorts. Just with a focus on online multiplayer, rather than a single player campaign...which makes sense, because the multiplayer was the only good thing about Halo. Getting 8 people together locally was awesome, and even with just two people it was great. I'm not sure about Xbone exclusives, other than Scalebound...which has been delayed to next year because reasons. But really, a console without JRPGs might as well not exist to me, aha.
Well, stupidity can't be the same the world over, right? xD
reddit is reddit, expecting any kind of sensible or rational thought to come out of that cesspool is putting waaaaaay too much faith in the human race in general, haha. My mother gets like that with Facebook games sometimes, though. I think in some ways games that can suck you in are the best games; evidently it's doing something right if you care that much about it...even if it is mindless trash. xD
Emblems are deprecated. They will be removed from profiles in PokéCommunity 3.0.
