Speaking of Wobby and Chomp, I think the current definition of ubers is flawed. I think over centralization should be the most important thing, so that if these supposed ubers really are uber, people will have to go to extreme measures to beat them. That's why I'm for Wobby and Chomp to be in OUs mainly...they don't over centralize anything ._. It's a whole mess.

And seriously, what a rip-off it is that sweepers have better defensive ttyping and often recovery than walls.

As for me, I've never been a fan of Toxispikes. They never come in handy, and so often I find only one layer down so the team is infected with the inferior normal poison status, which sucks. Toxic is okay in my book for breaking walls (I'm looking at you, Hippowdon and Moonlight Cresselia).

Also, Assurance Tar sounds cool...even without SR, Sand Stream damages a lot of stuff. That would make switching bulky grounds in on Tar quite difficult, and especially old Bronzong. And really, Bronzong is only used because people are Mamo weak.

Just to reiterate what I think about Gengar - it is an overrated piece of poo. It dies to any attack (especially Pursuit) and can't even hit that hard. For specs sets, Mence and Lucario are way better IMO. Scarf Hypnosis is over valued and easy to absorb, and even if they predict your switch, it can't do much and you have a free switch-in for another pokemon. WoW Gar is okay though.

Hehe, you should include Punishment on that set for CroCune or something...

I would see Assurance working on that set with Stealth Rock in play, for Gyarados as it is 150 BP after STAB and the previous boost. Assurance is kinda its most powerful STAB move, so #_#

Given the number of sweepers with handy abilities (Intimidate on Salamence/Gyarados), great typing (Heatran, Metagross), above average defenses, the transition from stall to sweeping isn't that hard given that Heatran walls stuff like Porygon-Z and Azelf, Lucario makes a decent switchin to Tyranitar (4x Rock & Dark resist %_%) and other stuff.

Recently I have been questioning the effectiveness of Toxic Spikes. For one it forces me to use Tenta/Forry, it does not do anything to steel-types or Levitators (Cress and stuff), and it feels like it is generally inferior to Spikes + Stealth Rock, in the sense that Toxic doesn't even do much to a team and that it has the unpleasant effect of giving Guts boosts.

Actually I would post one of my teams in the S&M board but it either contains Wobby or Chomp, so yeah $_$

...And is it just me, or has the S&M board died? NOBODY posts teams anymore =0

EDIT: Out of curiosity, has anybody ever run a CB Weavile with Focus Punch? I have's awesome (especially since people are idiots and think random steels like Lucario and others weak to fighting counter it. O-H-K-O). It also dents its steel counters like Bronzong and Forretress with a decent amount of damage, especially those forced to use Shed shell because of Magnezone...who also switches in on Weavile a lot for some reason =/ Focus Punch is pretty deadly...unless Gyarados is the opposing Weavile counter lol

I just like how it has a powerful move since its STAB moves are kinda weak =/

Mirror Coat Suicune = cya Gengar.

I have used Wacan Sweeper Gtyarados in the late game...every time it manages to survive that long, it's a win =D

Also, I noticed people raving about Empoleon's agility/petaya set, but couldn't old Blaziken run that set? It could also in theory run agility + sub + Leichi + Blaze + Fire Punch FTW. Altough bulky waters would wall you so horribly it wouldn't even be funny. Poor's so much cooler than Infernape, but it HAD to be worse =/

So many things could abuse Mirror Coat though...and I've always wanted to try out NP/HP Ice/Grass Knot/FT Infernape, It any good?

I've kinda noticed some sweepers have more handy resistances than a lot of standard walls =/ Luckily, the transition to balanced/offense teams has been pretty painless thanks to Salamence and especially Heatran. lol

And just FYI, I'll be gone all next week on a school field trip (sounds weird, but true lol). I'll be in the nation's capitol (USA that is). I get to have fun in the swamp on the Patomic! Can't wait to see the Lincoln Memorial, since we were pretty darn close to collapsing in epic fashion.

Seriously, I thought that was how it was supposed to be used.

I never understood quite why it was used for a lead. I USED to do that, to spam Intimidate, until they started to stop using karmory too try & wall me.

Oh, & Mirror Coat Swamp almost worked, cept I swapped to Spiritomb on that turn...lucky me.

Lead with Twave/Toxic Gyara. Or SpecsGyara =D

In all seriousness, DDing up to sweep earlygame is a bad tactic with pretty much every pokemon. 95% of Gyarados users Taunt my Vaporeon only to eat a HP Electric. In my opinion, Gyara can sweep teams and poses a great threat, but SweeperGyara (184 Speed) is probably the only set that would not be outclassed.

Salamence gets both DD and Roost, getting a great combo with Dragon Claw + Earthquake. I would have to question the viability of Taunt on Gyara in this metagame - most Gyara counters are offensive, taking it down with HP Electric/Thunderbolt, or Grass Knot/Power Whip. Taunt may stop status, but it is so common that every battler knows how to prepare for it, and Taunt allows a free turn.

I feel DDGyara should be used as a lategame sweeper with the offensive set, Wacan Berry would make it even more scary. IMO BulkyDDMence >> BulkyDDGyara, as Mence actually can wall stuff effectively and pose a threat. Mence also attracts Ice Fang from Gliscor and Hippowdon, and laughs at its face as it can only do ~50% to it, and DD up 6 times and 2HKO (unless you get frozen, since that has happened to me tons of times)

CBPert could be nice. but base 110 attack leaves much to be desired. I would rather use CroPert (Curse/Waterfall/Rest/STalk) or CursePert.
I always wanted to see a Careful 252 HP/252 SpD Swampert Mirror Coat back a Grass Knot. It would be priceless @_@

And you know what really bothers me? People leading with DD Gyarados and trying to sweep right away. It's the most idiotic thing I've ever seen in my life. I guess leading just to Intimidate stuff and to get out of there is okay, but really people trying to sweep in the early game when the counter is at full health anyways...just makes no sense. Same goes with DDmence. Another example of knowing standard sets and not knowing how to use them IMO.

Sorry, but I've wanted to get that off my chest for awhile. My mega-offensive team is pretty Gyara weak, so I lead with SpecsMence to OHKO Gyarados who are idiot enough to try and sweep so I won't have to worry about it later. But seriously...why do people think leading with DDers to try and sweep early game is a good idea?

EDIT: Just to clarify, I don't have a problem with gyara leads themselves, just the ones that think they can DD and sweep right away.

I'm currently very mad that my mp3 player company doesn't have Jimi Hendrix's cover of "All Along the Watchtower." I'm sorry, but Bob Dylan's version drives me off the wall with that shrieky harmonica

...The tiers are a royal mess. At this point, I don't know what to think about Chomp/Wobby and I'm just going to withdraw from the discussion. Somebody should just define freaking uber already =/

Also, anybody here used a CB Swampert before?

    I declare you fail...

...but not as much as this one fellow in my class, Derek. He called me an idiot today (because I asked him if The Confederacy was the North or South, and he didn't know =/) and one of my classmates came to my aid quickly saying, "Derek, you're a spazmic retard." lol, whatever that means.

Either way, I really dislike all of my school. Thank goodness I have here or I would have destroyed them all by now =D

Well, 30% of the school doesn't bug me. I hate middle schoolers >:0 and being in middle school doesn't help much with that =/

Oh well! I'm going to be happy today!

Ouch...if I has a hacked Magikarp it would be way better than some lousy BPer >:0

and has anybody noticed how extremely popular Gliscor has become? It's on about every Smogon RMT and being a user of CB Machamp, I find myself using Ice Punch first because it is SO common. I'm interested to see May usage stats at the end of the month.

And I can't really shoddy since my computer now won't even let me connect to ANY server, so unless I can fix it I'll probably have to drop out of the [email protected] tournament. Ew. Oh well, it could be the three hours of HW I better be getting started on, lol

4 HP Luvdisc gets 5-6HKOed by LO Caterpie which is the most deadly variant of Caterpie alternating between String Shot and Tackle.

Faildisc gets +2 speed (approx) in Rain, Caterpie can easily null that by String shotting on the switch and String shotting while you setup. In that case switch out to your trusty Nosepass for a guaranteed OHKO =D

    Yep, it is a Shuckle.

@clade. - Magikarp can't learn Baton Pass, and can't boost stats, but it is a better choice over Faildisc (sorry biased towards Magikarp the borderline Uber)
    Yep, its Shuckle

Yeah, this is it for me. Five years ago today, I joined PC. Now my time here is coming to a close a half a decade later.

I won't go too in-depth here besides to say that my battling skills (and interest, to some degree) have eroded to the point where they couldn't be salvaged without time and effort that I can no longer muster. Furthermore, it just hasn't been all that fun for several years now for a ton of different reasons I do not wish wish to list, and having fun is the point...

This blog won't be very long. I obviously haven't posted many of these. Yeah, school can be a pain when you have a lot of homework and not a lot of energy.

Anyway, I originally thought that the second iteration of Stage 3 (to use Smogon's wording) would just be Manaphy and the already-OU Latias...and that's how it was going to be. But now Garchomp is being added into the test according to Jumpman, I would assume due to the close 44-41 vote in favor of it being Uber.

Posted September 12th, 2009 at 2:44 PM by Anti Comments 5
I figured I'd have some fun and predict the Stage 3 voting results. You can post some too if you'd like. I'll probably be wrong on about all of these, but I thought I'd have some fun so why not?

Shaymin-S - Uber

I think this will be voted Uber, actually. I think people are afraid of hax and afraid of Skymin's power and Speed. I actually don't blame them--it's a pretty effective Pokemon. I just wish...

They have finally been released, and you can find them here. I'm glad they're out, especially since I contributed to them this time around :3

The biggest "shocker" to me was Blissey at number 14 (if you include the Rotom formes, which I will do for this whole entry). How the mighty have fallen. Blissey is probably the best defensive Pokémon in the game, and it's not even close to the top ten. As a user of Blissey, my guess is that Blissey being vulnerable to Trick as well...

I know, long time, no see, right? People often complain about how S&M is dead, and while there isn't much we can do about that (after all, we cannot control who decides to frequent in the section), I figured that I might as well start using this again to maybe, possibly start some discussion. Honestly, I am still a bit puzzled by the failure of the Metagame Discussion Thread, and the best conclusion I can come to is that it failed because it was too bland or boring in some way. Hopefully I can...
