Thank you! Been stuck on editing the Intro for so long and you explained it so simply unlike some of the tutorials I've seen!

Hey there! Sorry to bother you, quick question if that's okay, when making a string while editing oaks speech, can I make It as long as I want? Could I just use the text converter in XSE like I would for text boxes? Thanks

It's alright I fixed the code up, I took the ips file and used the asm code (they are different) so I can fix it.

I can make a patch for it if you like, but there will be applymovement glitches, and 0x4 glitches (if you use them with signposts and walk away instead of finishing the script). But the rest, should work. I need sleep now. I'll see you round

Thanks again for your help today!

I really think we can expand on Davids work!

Edit: Sorry I posted this VM on my wall! I'm definitely a beginner haha!

Double Edit: SO what ideas do you have for this document? There's a lot to do with it!

I cannot, for the life of me, remember how to make arrows in textboxes, for signs and things . Can you job my memory?

/edit wow you get a lot of questions I'm so sorry :<. What do you llike to do outside of ROM Hacking? XD

Actually, you probably don't have to change pal 16.

My VBA keeps reseting the pals before the speech comes on. I'll look into the ASM

Soory I keep posting on my wall I'm dumb.

    Yep it's easy.

Follow this tut for the transparency asm part: here

Then insert this code at 0x471DEC
    2E 53 00 00 8C 31 00 00 FF 7F FF 3A 64 06 D2 4B FF 7F 14 7B 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    This changes palette 16.

    Next navigate to 0x160458.

    Decompile that pointer in XSE.
Add in the activate and deactivate codes in that text.

Compile it and simply change the offset at 0x160458 to change all 0x2 msgbox types permanently.

Heck you could put a showpokepic, or givemoney in that script.

    0x3, 0x4, 0x5, 0x6 are the pointers following 0x2 respectively.

    Great news,

I got all textboxes to permanently be see through! It is pretty cool!

But it requires a complete tradeoff of Pal 15 and 16 to work. ie. you can't use colours in text anymore forever. I had to change preparemsg as well.

The only thing that doesn't do well is if you leave the box open and call an exclamation mark.

Then the text box goes funny for a second.

It's a massive tradeoff but I dont think I'll use it in my hack

Oh I get you now, Dammit I really thought that would be how we make transparent textboxes.

On a side note, do you think that this table holds FF commands? We could theoretically make our own commands built into the Rom, correct?

To find the offset of a given script command's ASM, the game looks it up from a table. In BPRE, this table is located at 0x0815F9B4, and to find the pointer for a given command, you left-shift that command by 2 and then add the result to the table's offset. There, you'll find a pointer to the command's ASM.

For example, the command byte for showcoins is 0xC0. Left-shifting that by two gives us 0x300; adding that to the table offset gives us 0x0815FCB4, and the pointer at that offset is 0x0806C259 -- a pointer to showcoins' ASM with the THUMB bit set.

So we can look up the msgbox command decompile it, add in the new asm and change the pointer! I think it will work. I'll give it a crack later if you like!

The quick research on all scripting commands you posted earlier.

There is a location to each command with uses an asm code to execute, couldn't we just repoint the msgbox command and add in the transparent asm that has been conducted earlier?
