Are you offended easily?
What about racist terms- do you think they're offensive?

I'm curious as to your answers.

I'm not too easily offended, however I don't like derogatory terms used against people with special needs. It's not like they decided to have them, so yeah. Plus I'm a special education major, and I know I wouldn't want my future students, or even children, to have to put up with those names. That being said, my least favorite word is the r word.

As far as racial terms go, I've found that many people here don't seem to care about them anymore. But I live in Alabama, so idk if that has anything to do with it. Though I'm not gonna use them...that wouldn't be right.

And I also tend to get offended on other peoples' behalf lol. I end up defending others more than myself. v_v

Im usually not offended, however I do get offended by homophobic/racist/sexist terms because they are meant to offend in general, therefore I frown upon them. I also dont like people using the word "retard" in a derogatory sense.

Not really.
I used to, but now I kinda have an ironskin.
The thing about words is that they can only mean something if you let them.
B- hum... I wouldn't advise you mess with anyone close to me though... particularly if you like your face. . .

This. Except I'm not a special education major, I'm an Asperger's child with three little stepbrothers on the Autism spectrum. So the r word really is quite upsetting when used as an insult or synonym for "dumb" or "stupid".

I'm also very against the usage of things like "gay", "queer", and "homo" as insults. It's personally offensive, as I would be categorized as queer, and generally offensive because it's like... those aren't insults, those are sexual orientation descriptors. And by using them as insults, their meaning is corrupted and it's reinforced in people's minds that "gay" means "****ed up" or "stupid" or just really negative things.

I don't hear much for derogatory racial terms, but when I do hear a person who should not be using it... I just sort of freeze. Like, I can't believe they just said that; that's absolutely shocking. And you know... in time, I do hope that the other terms I mentioned will provoke a similar reaction in other people when used in a derogatory way.

I'm not offended easily, especially if I don't know the person who says or does it. I'll just laugh at them because I really don't care. [:

I don't care about enough to be offended by "offensive" terms. I often don't even understand why other people are bothered by them.

I'm not offended easily, but I know a few people who are and they get on my nerves because it's impossible to have a conversation with them without them getting offended over something that comes up. In my humble opinion, these people need to grow thicker skin because in the real world nobody cares about the genders sexualities of fictional characters.

Racial terms...Ehhh. I don't use them because from my experience they're the kind of words that you can't just say on a whim. Everyone I knew in high school who used racial terms had grown up around racist people. Hell, my brother's a huge racist and it's because he grew up with racist friends who had racist families and other racist friends.

I absolutely do not care about other offensive terms.

I'm not easily offended. I do have a few special cases where I'd likely get offended if someone does or say something very specific, but I don't think that's happened in a long long time. So long ago that I don't think it would offend me much anymore. I've been through a lot, so I figure it isn't that big of a deal.

Racial terms don't really apply to me, but I don't see the big deal in them. I say those words all the time.

I get offended very easily, because of my anti-socialist nature and the fact I look so weird.

I don't get racially abused though, but my brother does call me "retarded" a lot.

I think the only time I find something offensive is when people use "retard" against the disabled or the "n" word in general.

I am easily offended.

Racism- race does not matter. We are all the same, no matter our skin color.

Homophobia- gay people have as many rights as other humans- your sexual preference does not make you any different.

Chauvinism- You do not, I repeat, do NOT put down or use women because they are "weak" or "fragile."

Mental Illness- it bothers me when people are ignorant of others with illnesses and insult them because of it.

Personal Rant- the thing that offends me more than anything is when people say "I am OCD about this" or something along those lines. I have real, diagnosed OCD and it isn't about cleaning or making sure everything is perfect. It is so much more than that. It is a real, relentless anxiety disorder that takes over your life and can ruin it in the process. I just hate when people are ignorant about it and pass it off as nothing because it is a serious, complicated condition.

I'm not easily offended, instead of starting an argument I just ignore the person and walk off. Even if they continuously bother me, hopefully they'll eventually realise it's only making them look foolish. Although I feel anger boiling up inside of me when people use racist terms or discriminate other races, call others "retarded" and other terms.

It's not like they wanted to be disabled. I'm just frustrated and want people to treat the disabled like normal people not 'retarded freaks', as some people say. But yeah I hate racist comments and words used to attack the disabled. :(

The only slur I have a problem with (when used against me) is that charming f word used to describe homosexuals, you know the one. Other gays have no problem with it, which is great, but.. I just don't like the word at all. Been used far too often against me by my parents for me to ever get comfortable with it, I guess.
I'm not easily offended, any of y'all should know that - just don't call me that word.

As for racist terms, know your place when using them. Preferably, all such terms should be annihilated and destroyed, but if you're really going to say those words, know who you're saying them to. Don't be stupid.

I hardly get offended at all. It takes a lot to get to me and you have to attack people close to me, to really get to me. So, nope.

I don't usually get offended. I usually counter insults and mockery with logic and wits, but there's one thing that really offends me is when people comment my physique.

I have to admit I'm not too fit, and even though I don't show it, it huts a little when someone comments on it.

Meh. :P

I can get offended but not as easy as some people. The words that gets me going is "Handicapped" or " Retard" when it comes to special needs. I have some of those so I will get offended by these words.

I don't take offense very easily, however I do hate it when people are derogatory towards other people, no matter what they are lambasting them about, its just not right in my eyes to judge people because of what they look like, talk like etc.

I never get 'offended' so much as things just hurt my feelings. No particular word does it, whether it be racial or homophobic slurs, because they're kind of generic and they've lost all meaning. I don't get hurt by being called names, more when people say things about me and the kind of person I am.
