Ok, I agree with the fact that cloning is certainly clogging the GTS, and it really shouldn't be. But that's just something that you need to work around, like a giant Snorlax laying in the middle of the road. It is possible to find decent deals on GTS, trust me, I do it all the time. You just need to learn to narrow your search and use the offering system to your advantage.

Shift August 12th, 2007 9:56 PM

But some people have sentimental value attached to their Pokes. And if they recieved a once in a life time deal for their Pokemon, they'd want to accept the deal but not lose their Pokemon. But with the GTS they can clone and keep the original one. So you're not really doing much.

And if Nintendo leaves in stupid glitches, we might as well abuse them. It's like a shortcut to the finish line. :[

It gets monotonous after a while fighting the elite 4 your 40th time on your 3rd guy Ev'ed train going for lvl 100 after you KNOW he's got good IV's and everything..

I am playing the game for competitivness I already played it for fun and RPG.. Now that I am done I am playing for Battle... and after I EV train, I wanna use rare candies to get him up too a 100, of course this is cheating if I glitched the rare candies but it sure would save me an assload of time..

But maybe I wouldn't want to do it if nintendo had more guys to battle then just the elite 4, being that there have the highest level pokemon in the game they obviously are going to give the most EXP to your pokemon..

YES!!! Someone who I agree with. You have the right to abuse glitches. How many people around here have posted about the fact they cant get a glitch darkrai or shaymin on their US game. DID THEY SAY the glitch was bad and noone should use it?

I am now officially pissed! I got my secret friend to make a single level 5 Mew, I searched for Feebas, either, level 9 and under. Found one that wanted Mew, went to trade. Turns out, you cannot give Mew 9 and under, the reason it pisses me off? Because if you can't give it, you shouldn't be able to ask for it either!

HoundoomOfTheDarkness August 12th, 2007 10:05 PM

Actually, yeah. The data was the only reason I made the trade. I've never once used that Jirachi in battle. And again, my brother blackmailed me to trade for a second Jirachi for him. The Jirachi itself was actually a legit Bonus Disc Jirachi. And I didn't clone it. And I traded a level 100 Blaziken for it. And my brother gave me a level 100 Mewtwo to trade for him. And the only reason I didn't release it is because I collect legendaries. But this is tremendously off topic.

Oh yeah, and I've got 3 EV trained level 100s and 2 in the 60s. Without cheating.

And the GTS isn't clogged like a Snorlax in the road. It's clogged like a Wailord in the road.

You just admitted you had at least 1 self derived reason to let the cloning go. if you were 100% against it you would have said no.

Melody August 12th, 2007 10:09 PM

I dont condone GTS cloning. It's annoying. But I have nothing against cloning either. It's not cheating. It's not 'wrong' it's just a 'unofficial' feature IMO.

It's perfectly possible to find a good deal on the GTS. Just look. Dont be lazy.

True, but while looking on GTS I found some valid trades, a level 65 Haunter for any Dialga, I grabbed that! My Dialga was only level 49. I also saw someone giving out a Bidoof, normal, cheap throwaway Bidoof. Level 3, no item. They wanted a Palkia level 60 and up. Some people.....

...are stupid, no kidding. Those that are asking for a Dialga for their Bidoof are most likely some little 5 year olds. Why were you even looking at the Bidoof section anyway, people giving Bidoofs are inherently going to be asking for something ridiculous.

Which reminds me that legendaries can't even be traded. How annoying.

I've seen the Bidoof thing too. Obviously someone with no common sense.

Right. I let the cheating go. *sarcastic* And the blackmail had nothing to do with it. */sarcastic* My brother is... strange.

I like using the GTS glitch to evolve pokemon..I'm not actually going to ask a random person to a trade with me o.0

Pkmn Trainer Alex August 12th, 2007 10:40 PM

Aww. Did I miss a good debate? XD I'll add my share of words to this now~

Eh. I don't see why people feel that they just have to have their cake and eat it too. I mean, it is a game, and it isn't fair to compare it to how life works, but as someone who actually liked the idea of people catching unique Pokémon and trading it for other unique Pokémon, it isn't exactly fun to see a bunch of identical shiny legendaries being traded around. It kind of defeats the image and original purpose of Pokémon itself.

I just follow PC's rules. PC happens to allow glitch exploits, so I basically accept that a good majority of the people here exploit these glitches to clone or get event legendaries. Not necessarily do I condone or participate in such acts, though.

But who am I to say the other members of PC shouldn't? XD I just can't get myself to actually do such things. Maybe it is my old MMORPG manner showing. I mean, in those kinds of games, glitch-exploiting is reason to get the ban-hammer brought down on you for good. x_x

Of course, I'm not much of a Pokémon collector anyway. I prefer to train Pokémon, and only collect legendaries, shinies, and events that actually interest me. But that doesn't stop me from believing in a more ideal "Pokémon economy", where a rare actually is rare.

Shift August 12th, 2007 10:44 PM

Well, I only clone stuff that I really like.

I know, and I can understand why you would want to not lose something you feel attached to. But I (personally anyway) don't see it as a fair trade-off to devalue that Pokémon you feel attached to just to get another Pokémon.

Each clone you make and send off just means that the one you have is less special, less unique. Your attachment will end up being the only thing keeping it any different from the clones other people happen to own now. And I (personally anyway) can't feel proud about having something when I know someone else has the same exact thing. Nowadays, I can only take solace in the fact that the Pokémon I train, and the legendaries/shinies I catch, have never been cloned or traded away, and I only trade away things I don't like, or (legit) things I get off the GTS. XD

Again, this is my opinion, and you can do as you wish. This is probably all just another trait I get from playing MMORPGs. Rare items = prestige in such games. And when you consider how hard some people actually go to get these rares, cloning (item-duping in MMOs) not only devalues the rare, but the work it took to get it.

That, sir, was very, very, very nicely said. I applaud your post. *claps*
